So, I had a job interview this morning and the last question was to prepare a 5 minute present ion on anything you like to talk about - doesn't have to be work related.

I am having a really crappy time at work and am on anti-depressants and have withdrawn from a lot of my usual activities, so I stared at the question and thought "I hate everything"

then, a little voice said, you don't hate Elvis.

I thought, I can't talk about Elvis at work.

then, why not - they are scoring for being able to present information orally, and Elvis is something I can speak about with passion and expertise.

It was the best part of my interview.

well it is a promotion and back into a field that I love and away from the terrible place that I'm in.

the talk was about Elvis' legacy still not really being measured and how he's still an influence today - I wish I'd been able to keep the notes that I made.

I think most other people will try to suck up and do a work related presentation

and one of the interviewers was clearly an Elvis fan herself

funny how we can generally recognize each other

That last sentence really struck me. I've found that too and it also applies to animal lovers.

Hope it worked and that you get the promotion! It`s always good to talk about Elvis..fairly popular topic with me as well!! Besides,it was probably better that you chose something you care about..there`s nothing worse than trying to sound enthusiastic about something you couldn`t care less about.

When I was in elementary school, we had a substitute teacher and I just felt really drawn to her

something about her was so familiar

at the end of the day, we lined up to leave and I made sure I was last

she said goodbye and I blurted out "What's your favorite Elvis song?"

she looked at me, surprised - 75 or 6

then said "Love me Tender"

I grinned and I said, I knew we had something in common

Love your story about the substitute teacher, and I'm thinking of you, hoping
you'll get the promotion! After all, Elvis has your back!
