I took a listen to these earlier. Its hard to tell on some because the sounds so quiet. But burning love sounds promising and now or never is interesting.

Love the clips. Thanks for posting. The new version of 'Burning Love' has got to be one of the single releases from the 'Viva Elvis' album - it is too good not to be. This could be a No.1 single in the UK and other countries. C'mon SONY don't let us down on the marketing! By the way, the songs shown in the footage are the stage versions - the album versions are very different with much better sound.

Hi Emma,
Unfortunately, I could not go to Graceland for Elvis Week so I have not heard any of the new album tracks other than some of the show versions on the various clips above.
Best.

OMG. Brilliant. It's Now Or Never is fantastic. Had to listen again. I agree as well that Burning Love is great. Can't wait to buy the album. When is it due for release?

Trelane,
The album will be released in the UK and Europe on 8th November and the U.S.A. on 9th November.

I like Burning Love-it really sounds contemporary and kicks!
Its Now or Never they obviously played with his vocal playback to lower and slow down certain words and notes, not sure on that one how I feel?

This new album will be one for the ages! Those who don't want it then it's their loss. For those who do, then you are in for a real treat!(y)
Hate to say it but the new Burning Love rocks harder than the original 1972 version.

Love what they do with All Shook Up, can't wait to hear this new arrangment with Elvis voice. Its Now or Never is interesting too.
Burning Love? sounds like remix from the crapy 80's, It could have been on Felton Jarvis lousy Guitar Man remake sessions.
Now all of this does sound too showbiz and little rock and roll, but this are the stage versions, let's wait until the definitive versions on cd first.

I was at the Orpheum for the Elvis Week premiere of the Viva Elvis version of "Suspicious Minds." I thought it was pretty and it has that same modern showbiz style that all these Cirque productions have, but it was more sentimental than rocking. Overall, I think it is a new take on the song that is true to it's emotional content. I still prefer both the original studio version and the live versions I've heard, but the new one is perfectly good, too.

Should be an interesting album to listen to.."Burning Love" definitely sounds like it rocks more than the original. Not sure what I feel about the show as a whole though...bit too glitzy and a bit too over-done for me i think.I`m not being critical, looks like everyone involved put together an entertaining show that would appeal to a lot of people and did it well.Given the choice I`d rather watch Elvis,Scotty and Bill playing on a flat-bed truck...but that`s just me!

I agree, I would rather see Elvis play with his original people as well but I am pleased that they chose him to pay tribute too and I think they did it well ....in their own style.

Burning Love sounds harder... more contemporary-not necessarily better (there is a difference)
On the other hand, "Its Now or Never" does not sound correct-,as I said, you can hear the speed being toyed with on the words and notes to make the song fit the "arrangement" they wanted. It sounds odd, at points-IMO
"The new album will be for the ages"??? Thats a subjective call-especially since we have not heard the whole album, and what we have heard seems to have some hits, and misses IMO
The original Elvis produced songs-now those are for the ages, anything afterwards....without his input-will almost never be as good as what he did originally at the time it was new. IMO

I agree-there is a tendency of some to somehow want to "make these tinkering with the originals music" somehow "as good or better" than the hits that sold the style to start with. IMO that is rarely possible-except for ALLC.... anything I have heard that has been remixed, or "tinkered with" is not as good as the originals.
We are not going to be able to remix Elvis songs for every generation, in every new style or change to come along.....if so you water down the essence of what made it great.........Elvis and his contributions to the production of those hits.
Elvis sells Elvis-gimmicks are great, they help..... but are not the saving grace.... to carry Elvis into each generation.

I've been thinking alot about this, and in the end I will say: We should avoid any comments about if this new remixes are better or not than the originals.
Let's say, we might like better or not this new stuff, thats a personal thing and anyone is entitled to an opinion. But to say this is better than the original? hmmm...
I think they are totally diferent musical entities: Elvis originals are about making records, and they showcase the musician ship, goals and ideals of a certain era, of a certain genere: gospel, rock, pop, country, and more than anything, of a certain artist: Elvis. PLEASE REMEMBER: ELVIS IS MAINLY BUT NOT JUST ABOUT HIS SINGING, HE WAS THE PRODUCER, THE ARRANGER, THE DEDICATED MUSICIAN THAT SEARCHED FOR CERTAIN SOUND COMING OUT OF THE BAND, THE PERFORMANCE IS NOT JUST HIS SINGING BUT THE SOUND GENERATED AMONG HIM AND THE BAND. So to just say: this is BETTER than the original, is quite dangerous and does shortage Elvis as a performing artist and musician. You might like it more, well, yes, but thats a different deal.
This new tracks are not about making records, not about musician ship, not about an artist looking for a sound in the band to let him self out on a song, they are not about an Elvis performance, this new backing tracks are about putting an specific show: The cirque do solei, they are about Cirque do Solei performance using Elvis theme as their vehicle. This CD will be Cirque do Solei, not Elvis, and there is nothing wrong with that. I'm not against it, and I might even like it and enjoy the whole thing. But we have to know the difference, this is not Elvis, this is hardly rock or gospel music, this is 100% showbiz and novelty, and yes, you migh like it even more than Elvis originals, just as you might like whatever artist more than Elvis, in this case the Cirque do Solei musicals, but to say its better I think we can't.
We can say Burning Love alt take 4 or the Live version is better than the studio master and show argue why, we can say Chuck Berry as a rocker, or Tom Jones as an entertainer, or whoever as a country or gospel singer where better or not than Elvis and argue about that, just as we can say the Elvis soundtrack deliver by Cirque do SOlei is better or not than the Beatles one, or any other soundtrack deliver by Solei is better or not from any musical soundtrack from a similar musical show Elvis related or not. But to compare the original Elvis recordings with this remakes its out of place, its a crossing we should avoid.

Geez, I just don't know. I've got real mixed feelings about this. I was a little slow at getting the Beatles cd of that show. But when I did it blew me away. Mind you they had George Martin & his son on their side. I wonder who produced this?
Some of the arrangements sounded a little messy, especially "It's Now Or Never". As I say, I just don't know.

Totally agree-could not have said it better.
Music or movies-any creation sparks from the driving power of that creation-the artist.
When someone tinkers with the "artists creation" without any input of any kind from that artist you change the focus and design of that creation.
Would someone take a Rembrandt and decide-I think this will attract more of an audience today if.... we add, more green where the red is, more red where the green is?????
Sure you can do these things but the reason Rembrandt is a master-is because he knew how to make great art, art that lasts, art that is timeless..........
Elvis is timeless, not every single person sees it, but they can see he was a master at what he did......just as some prefer Van Gogh over Rembrandt but see they both are master at what they did.
Yes music remixes are interesting, sometimes exciting-but I just think its hard to compare them to the master recordings which show the timelessness of the original recordings.
We did not have remixes until the last 30 years or so, when people began "sampling" other riffs and portions of songs to make "new hits"
VIVA ELVIS may produce a great selling album with interesting takes on the originals...but I would never say they are better than the originals-in my subjective opinion!

Agreed. I think alot of fans are against such releases because they're perhaps affraid the remixes will over shadow the originals and the work Elvis put in. But i see them as an addition to the Elvis legacy. They will never replace the originals. Im all for trying new things, perhaps because I became a fan around the time of the ALLC remix and saw the great impact it made.

I know that this is all down to personal opinion but the way I usually think is that, when it comes to Elvis, the people in charge are all too quick to go with the flashy,over-the-top type of thing..the big, shiny, excessive show..same with the official remixes..trying too hard to make it "modern" and basically using Elvis` voice as a sound effect... You can`t "make" Elvis cool to the new generations by trying to turn him into something that he isn`t...It`s like when you see a guy in a club and he is dressed like a teenager and trying to break-dance or whatever but he is the wrong side of 50 and nobody thinks it`s cool.I`d be happy if Elvis` rightful place in music history was acknowledged and the music would be readily available in the future for people to discover him in their own time..which they will, there will always be Elvis fans.
I wish that every time Elvis` name comes up it doesn`t have to conjure up images of glitz and Vegas and bright lights..there was a lot more to him than that.

It looks a little weird for me... I don't know what it is but I don't think it shows what Elvis was about or what he represented.

I for one am not afraid of remixes overshadowing the originals it would take something almost monumental to overshadow Elvis Presley.
Perhaps if they had Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Ringo, Bruce Springsteen, Sting, and Will Smith to co-produce a remix....and they all contributed vocals, guitar work etc....that might overshadow the original work...........may-be!;)
ALLC was the one remix which seemed to really shine-but it was a little known track to most people, it had modest success in 1968 and was not recognised by most people as a hit by Elvis..................so it seemed like a completely new recording.
With songs like, "ITs Now or Never", "Hound Dog", "Dont Be Cruel", "Suspicious Minds", "Burning Love" etc.....its harder to make remixes because the originals were so strong, and so well known as they are.
Many of the reviews I have read about "Viva Elvis" make the point that it is hard to watch the singers, dancers, actors on stage, when Elvis is performing on the screen behind it all, which shows the power of Elvis (the original)compared to average performers live right on stage.
It will always be hard to try and show all that Elvis was "without his actual presence" it just does not come across in productions like this.....IMO because he was so unique, so charismatic......................................
all the glitz and hoopla that anyone can produce-do not equal that special glow he put out with just a smile (sounds corny but its true)

I saw something about the show here on the TV it was called Elvis in Las Vegas and i must say some things were really great there. The Version of One Night and the Performance of it is great. That is really a good show of course it is not that good like Elvis Songs and Shows by himself but i think for younger people it could be chance to become a fan it is young Style.
