Sony: The Complete Elvis Presley Masters

When the American company 'Franklin' released the Elvis Masters box set, there was some confusion if this would be the project that Jorgensen was talking about in the past. With this official EPE announcement, we can tell you that this was not the case. Jorgensen will reveal the details of this project in Memphis on Aug 14 during 'Conversations on Elvis'. The details that are known at this time are:
- Every Elvis Presley master recording released during his lifetime, presented in chronological order for the first time.
- Limited edition first-run of only 1,000 copies.
- 30 CDs featuring 711 original master recordings and 103 rarities.
- 240-page hardcover book with complete discography produced exclusively for this collection
- All housed in a limited edition display case
Sounds like a GREAT set, but considering all of the work being put into it including the display case and 240-page book, this one's going to be pretty expensive I would imagine!!

Oh, well I guess that the series that BMG did the 50's masters, 60's masters 1 & 2 and 70's masters were actually not complete, since the 60's did not include all the movie songs.

It will be too expensive for the average fan to buy when they are likely to have everything on it

Precisely right Rick. (y)
Not only do you have the expense of the CD's themselves, but then the hardcover book specially designed for the package along with the extremely limited production run. I wouldn't be at all shocked to see this set retailing for $750. :hmm:

It didn't include any movie songs or gospel songs either. It didn't claim to though.
This set will no doubt be good, but also seriously expensive and many of us already have most if not all of the material on it.

Sorry, but this is just another case of 'milkin' it'. I'm at the moment just parting out my hard earned dollars on "The Official Collector's Edition" monthly mag, complete wuth DVDs. This is it for me. I've got the box sets of the 50s & 60s. These were supposed to be full digital remasters. But if you follow the link below where they are analyzed you will see this is not the case.

This is something I would be delighted to buy, if it isn't in the thousands of dollars bracket.

it also makes no sense for them to put so much work to put this together and only press 1000 copies of the whole set.
better to stagger the discs on a release schedule and let fans get the book and box to put it together separately.
without false limited edition claims

Wow, what a guess! Price is $749 U.S. I believe.

Like a lot of other people i`d like to have this but it`s a bit out of my price-range. It would be great for somebody just starting out as an Elvis fan...to have so many of the recordings in an attractively packaged set. It really is pushing it though when things like this keep turning up...they should have released the complete collection years ago, done it properly once and leave it at that.

Actually I just split the difference Joe. I figured $500 would be too low of a price, but $1,000 would be much too high for only but a select few fans to be able to afford, so I just split the difference and said $750. ;)

I like I said would be delighted to have it but my budget simply can't afford it for cd's.
I'll go the FTD route in obtaining the music, and the new 2010 releases that are coming out.

Just Checked it out on the net and went through the actual tracklisting,
And Surprisingly 'LET'S FORGET ABOUT THE STARS' Was no where to be seen...
But It Is An Expensive Item...Considering most elvis fans
will have most of these masters already.

Whether it be $749.00 or $763.00 (with shipping)....that's still too **** much for a 30-CD set even if it does include a book. This is one boxset that I won't be purchasing unless someone gifts me with it.
I bet people will be selling their copies on Ebay - you just sit back and watch!

I must have paid at lest that much for all the cd's I have now, but I did it in the EasyPayment Plan -
one at a time -- over many many years!
I won't buy it, but I know I'll be wishing I could!

As has already been pointed out this release would be a great purchase for a new fan. I have been a fan since 1956 and have everything a thousand times over so I think it would be sheer extravagance on my part to contemplate buying it. However if anyone has a spare copy they want to get rid of my address is........................

no beginner fan is going to start with a mammoth box set though
so I have no idea who the target audience of 1000 is.

I've also been thinking about it and the fact that Sony is planning to release this set now is a little puzzling to me when the Franklin Mint has also released their version of the COMPLETE MASTERS SERIES. Yes, there are the obvious differences between the 2 sets, but just the fact that buyers have the option of making payments for the Franklin Mint set makes a big difference as opposed to coming up with such a huge chunk of money all at once for the Sony set. :hmm:
I know the payment plan was one of the biggest reasons why I chose to go with the Franklin Mint set and I think that is a big bonus for fans who want to own the COMPLETE MASTERS SERIES.
