View Full Version : CKX sued over Fullers takeover bid
http://encore.celebrityaccess.com/index.php?encoreId=252&articleId=35392
A shareholder has filed a lawsuit against CKX Inc., challenging a takeover bid made for the company by a group of investors led by the "American Idol" creator and former CKX exec Simon Fuller. CKX currently owns the rights to numerous entertainment brands, including "American Idol" as well as the likeness to celebrities such as Elvis Presley and Muhammad Ali...........
Can this situation become anymore messed up?????

they should never have sold control - just hire consultants.

What's hurting CKX the most is lack of longevity with their assets. Investors are concerned with putting too much money into Graceland when it may not be as popular 10 years from now as it is today. With Simon Cowell leaving American Idol it too has a not so clear future. What CKX needs is an asset that has stability and longevity that will interest shareholders and raise its value. This is the main reason why they couldn't get anyone to buy it before.
Elvis is a proven time tested earner-I think a case could be made for the fact that management of CKX have done a poor job since biting into the big apple.
When you have as much confusion and rumors about,
"what is going to be done in plans for the Graceland expansion, when its going to be done, plans for the Vegas Strip and hotels, convention centers etc......on and on....which are not finalised and continue to be debated"
it puts doubt in investors minds and they think no one is truely got a plan.....or knows how to execute it properly.
Then add in the obvious turmoil that is ongoing-3 individual bids for takeover, a lawsuit against CKX over the Fuller bid, Sillermans ouster and the boards obvious parting of the ways with His way of management........IMO is the more likely reason for any nervousness by investors.

Once again, spot on Ken!! (y)
Unfortunately, my feeling is that the longer this drags on, the more uncertainty will shroud the entire EPE organization which could have far reaching repercussions... :hmm:
TCB!

You are correct-the longer this goes on the more uncertainty it will breed.
Five plus years since the CKX/Sillerman buyout-and uncertainty has only got worse.
I think I am a fair person-if things had run smoothly and efficiently this last 5 years with substantial progress having been made on the redevelopement situation........I would be the first to say so.....but no matter how you cut it, how you shade it, how you explain it-that has not been the case.
Now thats bad enough-but add this "power play" of buyouts between the differing factions and you create chaos-and thats exactly the situation as of today.

AMEN!!!!!!!!
Lisa Marie should be ashamed of herself
I'm sure she thought it would all go much different that it has.........when someone offers to "take your business to the next level" offers over $100 million in cash plus millions in stock ........and then lets you keep 15% ownership of the corporation..... plus you retain ownership of Graceland and all your fathers personal property ....it would seem like the correct path to take.
But the path that CKX has taken has not been the road promised-instead of smooth sailing full steam ahead....I think the Titanic would be a better metaphor.

I know I'll get it for sure over this BUT........
I just think she could careless she has what she wants and needs..... she is just like whatever and she has always had that attitude when it came to her father IMO and there is no amount of argument would change my opinion maybe a change in her attitude but I don't see that happening again IMO
No the Titanic was a tragedy of epic proprtions not quite the same as the selling of CKX

I am not sure what you are saying when you say-"she has always had that attitude when it came to her father"? Do you imply she does not or did not love her dad?
I know she is comes off brash-but she loves her dad and his memory.
Her song "Nobody Noticed It" show that love I think....................every now and then we should remember-Elvis is her dad, and we are just fans. She was held in his arms, sang to by him, kissed and loved by him-he is her father.
I heard broken footsteps
Was that you limping?
Well, I wish that I had spent just a little bit more time with you
Tears on my ceiling
Weren't you watching?Well, I guess none of us will ever know what comes after this
You're still lovely
You were lovely then
All that you had to endure
I guess nobody noticed itI know your resemblance
It's out there walking
And I wanted you to know that I haven't forgotten
Well, they tried to make you look broken
But not while I'm living
'Cause I wanted you to know that I heard what you said while it was rainingYou're still lovely
You were lovely then
All that you had to endure
I guess nobody noticed it
You made me, and I love you
Did you know nothing has changed?
And now everyone they notice it
Everyone notices
You're still lovely
You were lovely then
All that you had to endure
I guess nobody noticed it
You made me, I love you
Did you know nothing has changed?
And now everyone they notice it
Everyone notices.
(And yes I agree the Titanic was a tragedy of epic proportions-my comparison was only a metaphor-not literal.;))

No I think she loved him very much as much as she could for the age she was when he passed....I lost my grandma who was like my mom when I was just a little older than Lisa.....and I love her very much to this day but I can't remember all that much about her....and i was with her everyday from the day I was born until she died....and poor Lisa was shuffeled between Pris and E so that had to be hard on her I'm sure...but I think she took much more of her attitude from Ms. Pris and she tends to come off cold and hateful......She does this for protection IMO but i'm not her so IDK
To me she really doesn't care much about his memory...I mean she does superficially but I believe it really is only half-heartedly...I guess she probably has gotten tired of the fight no matter what it is she does she will always be judged.... good or bad.....But her dad is on evreything from undies to (well everything.) but maybe she is like "to hell w/ it all I have my own family rather than wonder what new novelty containing my dads picture do I have to think about today I guess it has probably became redundant to her.....do u get what I mean?? We all know I'm not the best at wording myself well but I don't mean she absolutely hated her dad and does everything she can to soil his good name and all that jaz is not what I thnk she does....I question her motives at times....I think sometimes she even says to him "F U" like she is mad bc he died....I know some of her has to feel like that.....Like so I wasn't important enough for u to shape ur butt up for eh? We all know had he not done to himself what he did he would have lived a lot longer same w/ my grandma so i get that line of thinking...

I understand your thinking completely-my dad commited suicide and many many times I have silently asked "Wasnt I worth sticking around for?"
But thats neither here nor there.
I think the novelty end of the "selling of Elvis" is nothing new, Parker established it in 1956 and it never stopped-Elvis did not see the harm in most of it bubble gum, record players, guitars, furniture, candy, hairbrushes, dolls etc.....it was all done in the 50s and Elvis accepted it as making more money and promoting his name-but he was sold that idea IMO
Today with the estate owning very little of the essence of what made Elvis so great (the music and the motion pictures) they are doing what Parker did and what Elvis accepted as part of the business (I am not condoning the novelty end of sellling but realise its not new, to Elvis or to anything else)
The Beatles were "cartoon characters" on TV so novelties are not exclusive to Elvis.
In a perfect world Lisa would have inherited her dads entire RCA catalogue or at least the royaltees from it-she did not, she only gets royaltees from songs recorded in 73-77....in a perfect world Elvis would have made better movies and been challenged to stay in top form, in a perfect world his manager would have pushed him to take creative risks and to not make fluff......but this is not a perfect world.
