I definitely plan on going. It'll be the first time since 1972 when I was just a child that I last went to see Elvis in theaters. Hats off to Time-Warner for making this happen.(y)

Apart from a PR exercise to boost sales of the new 'Elvis On Tour' packages the theatre presentations may also be a 'sounding board' for EPE to judge whether ticket sales justify bringing 'Elvis In Concert' back to the U.S.A. Just a thought.

The IMAX presentation in Houston of 'On Tour' should be awesome.

Actually, I was quite surprised to see that EOT would be playing near me. Usually this type of stuff only shows up in the big cities downstate, like Albany and New York City! (n)

So I am DEFINITELY going to see EOT!!! My first experience seeing Elvis on the big screen was when I was in Memphis for the premiere of TTWII - SE during Elvis Week 2000, and all I can say is WOW!!!! There is NOTHING like seeing Elvis on the big screen, so I am not going to miss EOT on the big screen for sure!!!! (y)

Well, at least you can have the chance of watching those big stuff. Sometimes I'd like to live in USA to attend events like premiers with Johnny Depp, LOL.
Great you can see EOT.
I wish they BRING it to Mexico........ :'(

Well since EPE has nothing to do with this theater re-release (they do not own EOT) I would doubt the purpose of re-releasing it has anything at all to do with EIC-or EPE....... but EPE will love the free publicity that it generates......
EPE still has no plans to release EIC to the public.

Since the 1972 release runs about 93 minutes-and the run time for this re-release is listed at 125 minutes it seems that there is added footage.(y)

(Although... it could be that the EOT footage that was in the "Lost Performances" vhs release could be included in this DVD release)

I think now is the time to put up or shut up in regards to EOT and all Elvis promotions in general. This is a perfect opportunity to show Sony, Warners, and EPE that there is support for Elvis promotions such as this.
Many have complained for years about why they don't do this , or that......things people have decided would be correct marketing of Elvis and his work.
Well hear is the opportunity-if you have complained about them not doing enough, not spending enough, not promoting Elvis correctly-here is the chance to turn out for this theater showing in large numbers........to show if they do the right thing it is going to reap them rewards.
IMO this is the time to show your support for Elvis and his legacy-show up make it a huge success in numbers.
(which is the only success anyone pays attention to and reacts to)
If this flops, or shows lukewarm business-it will be along time before we see something like this again (or any effort to remaster and cut all the outtakes from TTWII and EOT)

Can't wait, it's only playing in one theatre in RI and it's the one literally down the street from my house. I would drive to Memphis if I had to but it's pretty cool it's playing here. Hopefully it's a huge success!! With the music out nowadays we need Elvis back in the spotlight!

EVERYONE GET OUT THERE AND SUPPORT THIS EVENT, IF YOU CAN!!! Let's show the powers-that-be that we are serious about Elvis and the release of EOT!!! As Ken said, the only thing that talks is MONEY so let's spend the money to prove that a new release of EOT with the available outtakes would be a profitable one!! (y)

In order for E.O.T. to be a big success they need to promote this big time to the general public......like putting adds on tv and in magazines and have billboards put up in popular locations and big cites like New York.

Actually in my area the theater its going to play at does have it listed on its board and most of my friends and family have heard about it.
I think most fans know about this showing (news travels fast on the net)-and lets face it the fans (not the general public) are the ones who have been complaining about EOT not being on DVD, and wanting more promotions which highlight Elvis the performer-well this is it. Warners does not expect to make a mint from the general public-if they make any money it will be from we fans who have begged for things such as this-well here it is! IMO if this does not do well it is no ones fault but we fans.
I would say 90% of the audience for EOT in theaters will be long standing fans-and if we show up in big numbers it will make a statement-if we don't.........unfortunately it also makes a statement and it will be our fault.

Lets not forget the Internet is the best and fastest way to advertise or showcase anything....in todays world.

Not trying to get off subject here but the theatrical showing of EOT probably wouldn't have happened without CKX being involved. I noticed on the trailer for the special showing that Graceland's logo, which is also on CKX website is used long with WB. Prior to CKX we couldn't get anyting on Elvis in a theater. Now we have this and Viva Elvis and so much more to come to look forward to. No telling what all would have been done with the Elvis image and nme had Lisa Marie had sold the rights a long time ago.

Back to the topic. As I mentioned in this thread, there's supposed to be never before seen footage included. But I would assume following the actual documentary. Most likely the 'Lost Performances' footage released back in the 90's. If that is indeed what they mean by "unseen" then that would be: All Shook Up, Teddy Bear/Don't Be Cruel, Are You Lonesome Tonight, I Can't Stop Loving You, How Great Thou Art and Release Me. Unless CKX struck some type of deal with WB for the showing to include really unseen footage, as in raw footage. But that would probably be wishful thinking.

I agree. A good showing could result in WB creating a whole new movie with the extra footage put together like Michael Jackson' 'This Is It'. Maybe for 2017 for the 40th anniversary of his death.

Most of 'Lost Performances' was from the 'That's The Way It Is' vaults but that last portion was from EOT outtakes of Hampton Roads and Greensboro. Strange though that no outtakes from the Richmond concert on April 10 has never leaked even though it was also filmed and recorded.

Here I totally disagree-FANS have clamored for over 10 years about seeing EOT released on DVD-as they did for TTWIISE which was remastered and put out in 2001 and had a limited theater release....long before CKX or Sillerman. If any one entitiy is responsible for this making it to DVD and into the theaters its FANS who have sent letters and E-Mails too Turner and Warners in the last 10 years. Any time an official of Warners or Turner made announcements about future releases in the last 10 years-they were asked
"When is EOT going on DVD" by some fan.
CKX and EPE do have interaction with Sony and those who own Elvis films-but the prime decisions for releasing movies starts and ends with the people who own them-in this case Warners....interaction is far cry from any final decisions made. EPE makes this very clear on their official website-they do not own the films and they have no sayso in how they are used or released.

I saw many of Elvis's films in the theaters and at drive ins. The indoor theater has such power just from the sheer size of the screen and volume of the sound systems.
Elvis on Tour in the theater was as close as you could get to a live performance without really seeing him in person.
I saw both TTWII and EOT in theaters-and it just blew me away.

Just got back from watching Toy Story 3, and our little theater had the poster for "Elvis on Tour" up and I went ahead and got my ticket! I had considered
asking for the poster but it didn't look like Elvis, IMO. The trailer mentioned the "never been seen footage", it looked like footage from the Ed Sullivan
show - which I own.
I also pre-ordered my DVD copy, just ticked that it won't come with a book like the Blu-Ray. I'm still focusing on DVDs not Blu-Rays, I know something will
replace Blu-Ray and I'll need to buy those :D

Curious where you got the info that the unseen footage is suppose to be from the EOT vaults?
The official word on outtakes and unused footage was that Turner and Warners could not come to terms on any new outtakes being used on the DVD-so how could they have some for the theaters.........unless.......its the Lost Performances VHS release EOT footage which Warners already has in its hands. I have heard nothing new on any deal between Turner and Warners for any absolutely new footage?

According to fans who have already got a copy of the new DVD of 'On Tour' the opening sequence where Elvis sings 'Johnny B. Goode' has been retained BUT the sound has been removed and replaced with 'Don't Be Cruel' due to copyright problems. To add insult to injury the same track is played later in the film.

They could have at least used something like 'Polk Salad Annie' to get immediate interest raised. This means that the release was wrongly advertised as 'the original film which won a Golden Globe Award'. Well this version did not. A big thumbs down for Warner Brothers.

Brian,

I was going to mention that very thing. When I read that over at the "other" board, it pissed me off!

Me too Tony. They could at least have picked 'Polk Salad Annie' or another up-tempo number to get people's interest raised immediately. Everyone knows that ''Teddy Bear'/'Don't Be Cruel' were throw away numbers by this stage of Elvis' career. To add insult to injury the same songs are duplicated later in the film with the correct footage.

Perhaps in years to come, when we have long gone, Elvis' then record/film company will ask fans what should go into a new release - and pigs might fly!!

I went and saw EOT last night at a theater near my house and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised to see how many people were there, especially since there was ABSOLUTELY NO ADVERTISING anywhere the theater...not on the marquee outside and no where inside either. That was truly disappointing. Not a single poster, banner or even a sign about the movie being played. Very, VERY disappointing. In fact once we handed the usher our tickets and made our way to the theater, the sign above the door only read "Special Event". NOT ONE MENTION OF ELVIS!!! (n)

I have to say that I thought the introduction piece talking about the making of the film was informative, although perhaps a bit too lengthy. Of course we also were inundated with the usual Priscilla "here I am, it's all about me" remarks as she spoke about how BRIDGE OVER TROUBLED WATER was a message to her, while "Founder of Elvis Presley Enterprises" was plastered on the bottom of the screen while she was talking. The topper though was the last little "introduction" she gave before the movie started...UGH!!! Clearly she was reading from a script, teleprompter, cue card, etc. To me, it appeared as though she could care less about what she was reading...except for the part about coming down to Memphis for Elvis Week, which of course means more money for her...but I digress...

Then...the majestic roaring of the MGM lion and the beginning of the movie...FINALLY!!! As a relatively younger guy, I never had the opportunity to see Elvis on the big screen when Elvis' movies originally came out. My first taste of Elvis on the big screen was the premiere screening of TTWII-SE in Memphis during Elvis Week 2000. So I knew when it was announced that EOT was coming to theaters, I HAD to be there!!! Once again I was truly let down though, once the opening credits rolled. To learn that all of the pre-screening speculation that JOHNNY B. GOODE was not included in the movie was ACTUALLY true....another UGH!!! Instead, we had DON'T BE CRUEL running over the opening credits...and even being looped a second time because the song was shorter than the credits...it just wasn't right!!! JOHNNY B. GOODE has been the opening number for EOT since 1972, and to see this movie on the big screen without it...I was disappointed. Oh how I wish those internet rumors had been wrong...

As for the rest of the movie, what can I say?? It was ELVIS ON TOUR...absolutely FANTASTIC!!! I do have to say though that I was bit disappointed in the sound quality of the movie though...whether it was my theater or whether it was the movie, the sound to me didn't sound much better than my video copy of the movie. Supposedly the sound has been remastered for the upcoming DVD/Blu-Ray release....I hope they sound better than it did last night. :hmm:

Anyway, it was a GREAT night all things considered. After all, how often do we get to see Elvis on the big screen where he belongs??? Not nearly often enough, that's for sure!!

TCB!
