I called the MPD and was told they do not have any report of a crash at the gates on Saturday night. This is public record and for $15.00 you can get a copy - if they had one.

Thanks Gail, maybe they didn't report it.:hmm: There are photos of the gates not being there.

The gates have reportedly been repainted/repaired/reinstalled. Personally, even though we're all Elvis fans here, I think we're over-reacting just a way bit too much to this news.
Accidents happen, even deliberate ones.

I agree.
The fact that supposedly someone drove the car up to the mansion and then got away-is the part that does not make sense to me-I would assume security would have seen the culprit, and had to make a report unless they are just totally inept. The fact that "NO reports made it into the TV news or Entertainment Tonight it just does not sound right.

Sounds to me like it was a domestic incident involving a current or former employee which would account for the lack of a police report and the 'non event' as far as the news agencies are concerned. Just speculation however.

The problem is IF this did happen, it is a big deal, they need more security at Graceland.

There's no question as to if this happened. There's photographic evidence to prove it. What more do we need?

We need to find out EXACTLY what happened and how it was allowed to happen. Not enough security? Security not doing their job? Graceland is a historical landmark and there is just no excuse for someone to be allowed to do what they did here (or at any historical landmark). Maybe it was a disgruntled former employee like Brian surmised... :hmm:
Whatever the case, security needs to be tightened at Graceland, ESPECIALLY if it's going to take the Memphis police 30 minutes to respond to a call. (n)

Yes, my friend, this is not a good sign. I hold Graceland dear to me. They most certainly need more security :cop:all around the grounds, and inside at all times 24/7.

I couldn't agree more pal!!! For all the money that EPE rakes in every year, they certainly can afford to beef up security inside and outside the mansion 24/7 to prevent things like this from happening again! :hmm:

In the age of photoshopping and the internet-even photos are suspect. I'm sure the gates at Graceland must have been taken down a time or 2 in the last 30 odd years for one reason or another-and photos could have been taken etc......but why someone would start a rumor on the internet about this ( if it may not be true I mean) is really the question.
If it is true then I agree the security people were lax in letting the person driving get all the way to the mansion and then get away. But if a person made it all the way to the mansion-would they not have several security cameras which would have captured the persons picture? I would think several views of the incident would be on tape, and if they have video of this person-surely they would call the Memphis police and turn it over to them to show that Graceland has the grounds totally covered by video cameras.......which would make others think twice about similar action.
Entertainment Tonight would be all over this-if it happened as they do not miss a trick. I still have my doubts.
Since Graceland Cams are posted on the Internet-did anyone notice the incident-or the gates being removed in this last week?? Seems like someone would have.

The gates were removed and repaired and were back on in a day.

If there was no report of a crash at the gates that night, why take the gates away???
Something just doesn't add up here.:hmm::hmm::hmm:

It could have been for routine maintenance of the gates' mechanism, I guess.
There doesn't need to have been an 'incident' to explain why this happened.
