Sony executives will be meeting in New York later this month to review the master recordings from the 'Viva Elvis' Show CD to finalise tracklisting and decide on which ones to release as a possible single or singles in advance of the Album release in September. Marketing strategy will also be on the agenda.

Depending on how much promo they put in will determine how high it gets on the charts. But I would keep Ernst far away from the choice selections on this one. His taste in what is good Elvis music isn't what I would consider the general public's if you know what I mean. All one has to do is look at the questionable choices for the Elvis 75 box and you'll get the picture.

THIS RELEASE HAS THE POTENTIAL TO BE A HUGE HIT WORLDWIDE. HOWEVER, IT SEEMS WHEN IT COMES TO ELVIS THE POWERS THAT BE SIT ON THEIR HANDS. I DON'T WANT TO SOUND DISRESPECTFUL, HOWEVER, ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE BEATLES AND DAYS OF HISTORY PERTAINING TO THEM; YOU'LL FIND IT SPLASHED EVERYWHERE! WHY WAS THERE NO ITEM ON TV NEWS RE: 50 YEARS SINCE ELVIS SET FOOT IN SCOTLAND ON HIS WAY BACK TO THE STATES FOR EXAMPLE? I REMEMBER A HUGE BUZZ OVER THE 'LOVE' SHOW .....I GUESS TIME WILL TELL! ANYWAY, I LOVE ELVIS AND ALWAYS WILL, FOR ME THERE IS NO-ONE BETTER!

Mark my words. This release will be a worldwide No.1. Sony have already stated it will be as big, if not bigger, than the 30 No.1's release and that has sold over 12 million to date.

I will be organising a UK Radio Station Request Campaign nearer the time. I hope some of you will help me with this.

I think that's severe overhype by EPE

What songs could they possibly put on Viva Elvis that the fans haven't already purchased 100 times over.
Anything is possible and with a lot of promotion the CD could get into the top 10 and go platinum but I bet it won't do very well and EPE does little to promote it.

Sony made this announcement-it is Sony who makes the prediction, unless I'm missing something in the statement posted. So if anyone is overhyping the outcome-its Sony not EPE.

No overhype here. Mark my words on this one. A worldwide No.1 no problem.

Why would Sony overhype something that they're about to invest a lot of money behind? This is their project. Not EPE's. But EPE is supporting, approving and helping to market it.

What do you expect them to say that this project would be a marginal hit or not sell at all.
If it doesn't became a big worldwide hit they'll look like *****s.

I think it's overhype the expectations they have are very premature to be saying it's going to to big huge worldwide #1
It could be but I doubt it.

They're not "overhyping" this album by any means. Especially considering that it'll have the show itself to use as a commercialized promotional tool and will be sold at the Aria where the show is at in Las Vegas as well as throughout the world. I see where their statement makes a valid point that it'll be as big as E1.

As I recall, a lot of people doubted that E1 would be a worldwide #1 too, and we see how that turned out....15 million units sold later. ;)

Of all the posthumus releases how many were big hits?

We'll soon see if this is overhype on their part

We certainly will. I can't wait. Will also be interesting to see where the single releases from the album appear on the Singles Charts.

Will this be music as can be heard during the Viva Las Elvis show? The new arrangements, overdubs and duets with lady singers? I read that some parts of the show, they're using Elvis soundalikes, if that's true: will Sony also use that?

For example: the Jersey Boys is a highly praised broadway show about the Four Seasons. Eventhough the original music is available, they used the broadway cast to sing on the Jersey Boys soundtrack.

And if it does use the music in the Viva Las Elvis show will this CD even be credited to Elvis.

I have taken this matter up with Sony who promised to address the issue.

thanks i'd like to know

Wouldn't it be hilarious if this CD did become a huge worldwide hit that sold 15 million copies like 30#1 hits did only for it not to be credited to Elvis.
If it's a true soundrack to the Viva Elvis Cirque show with the cast members doing all the singing then it really shouldn't be credited to Elvis.

The following is the song list from the Show:

Intro 2001
Blue Suede Shoes
Don't Be Cruel
Too Much
One Night
All Shook Up(Female)
Saved
Got A Lot of Livin' To Do/Shake Rattle & Roll
Heartbreak Hotel
Love Me Tender(Duet)
Didja Ever
Return To Sender
Are You Lonesome Tonight(Duet)
Medley: Mystery Train/Let's Play House/I Don't Care If The Sun Don't Shine/Trying To Get To You/Baby What You Want Me to Do/Tiger Man.
Burning Love
Bossa Nova Baby
King Creole(Duet)
Jailhouse Rock
It's Now Or Never
Can't Help Falling In Love
Love Me/Don't (Duet)
Viva Las Vegas
Suspicious Minds (live version)
Hound Dog (70's version).

There is no problem with the duets as was seen with the Christmas Duets last year. It would appear therefore the only non Elvis singing track is 'All Shook Up'. We will have to wait and see what Sony decide later this month.

It's all Elvis. No other male singers involved. Especially no impersonators. Just Elvis backed by a live band and a few collaborations with very good female singers in duet form.

Thats exactly why they would overhype it (if in fact they are overhyping it) You do not plan to spend a lot of money-and then say "We expect to sell a few"
As far as investing a lot of money-the music has already been remixed since the show has opened and is playing. The only new investment they will have is packaging and marketing it. If they sell 4- 5 million worldwide I would say they will come out way way ahead considering they pay no artist royaltee to the estate for most of the songs used.
Its a little like selling a used car-you say you want $8000 firm-but what you really want is at least $3000 and anything over $3000 is gravy;)
