over the years priscilla has said that she didn't want to be in the spotlight and that the presley name was a curse[billy smith claims in revelations book], for years she had shuned media attention while E.P. was alive, then suddenly she appeard in commercials and dreadful shows like those amazing animals, dallass , and lets not forget those awful movies like naked gun, ford fairlane among others , my question is why is she always contaradicting herself and is she really an actress?

IMO, most of the MM didn't like Priscilla. So,I take what they say about her with a grain of salt.
I used to watch Dallas & thought she did ok.
{that was in my period of dislike for her ;)} Naked Gun & Ford Fairlane, many people love. They just weren't my type of movies.
Some of the kids in our family loved animals so, Amazing Animals was watched here too.
As for going to work; most divorced women do . Most to make a living, but also to give themselves a bit of self-worth & to figure out who they are ;apart from being someones wife and/or mother .:)

this is true, the naked gun films didn't do it for me, no matter who was in them............
I can also understand her wanting to work, she had lived in Elvis' shadow and wanted to have her own life......nothing wrong with that!!!!

People are advised to play to their strengths when seeking work, so it seems perfectly natural that she would have taken a direction which utilizes her extraordinary beauty, and she had plenty of encouragement to do so.

Can't say I've heard her say that. I have read it in a few books though.
One thing I've never understood- or seen proven, actually. :hmm:
{court documents, etc.} That Prisicilla wasn't to use the Presley name.
I'm divorced & know several that are . None of us changed our last names.
We all had kids & IMO, would just confuse them & their school teachers . ;)

Unfortunately, Hollywood was not initially interested in taking Priscilla as she was. Despite her fame, wealth and breathtaking beauty, at first Priscilla found it virtually impossible to land an acting job. She was a novice as an actress, with the burden of a heavy personal legacy, and she knew it. Sensing sexism, she turned down the chance to replace Kate Jackson on the TV show Charlie's Angels.
Slowly, Priscilla built a career on her own terms. First came a glossy commercial hawking shampoo. Then she cohosted the short-lived series Those Amazing Animals. She pushed herself to maintain a heavy schedule that included raising her daughter, opening a Beverly Hills boutique, taking weekly acting lessons and, later, after Elvis died, supervising his estate.

"...handling of her late husband's diverse financial interests." Shouldn't that be "late ex-husband"? I give her credit for getting that done for us. I don't think much of her as an actress but I give her credit for making a career of it somewhat.(y)

Supposedly Elvis told the MM members like Sonny West and Lamar Fike that he didn't want Priscilla to use his last name to try and get a career in showbiz.
I don't think Elvis or anyone could legally stop their ex-wives from using their last names unless Elvis wanted her to as part of the divorce and Priscilla agreed to it and then she signed a contract specifically stating she wouldn't.
That evidently never happened though.

I DO know some women that change their married names back to their maiden names after a divorce.
They don't have kids though.

I think its all a matter of taste. I didn't think those films were particularly funny. I prefer less obvious comedy. I did think, though, that she fitted that particular role well.
It's a shame she was too short for modelling (yes, I know she did do some, but you know what I mean). I think that would have suited her much better. Plus she was very attractive during that time.

I've never really understood why being little is considered a disadvantage in modeling
I imagine because designers' clothes look a lot better on very tall and extremely thin people. And even though the majority of us aren't 5ft 10, they just want to get us to buy the stuff and try to kid us that it will look just as good on a 5ft 3 person!!!
Maybe it works. Who knows. They don't fool me though!!!

I've never really understood why being little is considered a disadvantage in modeling
Hi Teddy :bye: :D
My theory is that the industry is run by Designers who want their clothes to drape well for fashion, which means that the models have to be very thin and tall. The models don't smile I believe, as the thought is, that smiling, will take away from the garment.
A lot of the Designers are men. Rather than their clothes draping on a curvy woman, and/or a smaller frame, they feel their clothes drape more to their liking, on a thin and tall frame. You know, Australian Size 6 and 8 used to be small, now it's fashionable, for some women to be proud to be a Size 4 or 2! (No curves, lol).
Shorter women too, we weren't allowed to be Air Hostesses, either :'( :D

What is the basis for this statement?
I've heard Priscilla say many times on t.v. that the Presley name was a burden to her.
This seems to be the sentiment of many who are/were the spouses/children of famous people, be it musicians, actors, politicians, athletes, etc. - the 'name' overshadowing a person. And while being "a burden" plays a part in it, a broader picture is painted and available for those who are interested in more than just a sound bite of the dynamic.
Can't say I've heard her say that. I have read it in a few books though.
One thing I've never understood- or seen proven, actually. :hmm:

i have a friend who recently divorced and immediately returned to her maiden name. In fact I know quite a few who have...but then they don't need to capitalise on a famous name like Priscilla did and continues to do.
How is she doing this?
And if she is capitalizing on a "famous name", aren't all the MM, "best friends", EX-girlfriends, one-nighters, relatives, maids/cooks, co-stars/actresses (???), secretaries, friends & groupies etc. doing the same and continue to do so with every interview given, original/rare photograph posted/put up for sale, web-site entry comment, book written, 'official' club membership sold etc., etc., etc., ?
I think its all a matter of taste. I didn't think those films were particularly funny. I prefer less obvious comedy. I did think, though, that she fitted that particular role well.

I guess it's possible he could've told them that
But I don't believe they ever said that she was suppose to be legally forbidden to use the name.

It is a fabrication by the MM spearheaded by Sonny West.
You are incorrect in your information on the MM -
Sonny West has said the divorce decree stated Priscilla Presley was not to use the Presley name.
Another version SWest has used is that Elvis had it in his Will.
The one thing brothers West/Fike and even you in your theory are overlooking is Priscilla Presley was and is the proprietor of her name. There was/is no his to it - married or divorced - showbiz plans or not.

you got it flipped backwards
I think the general opinion on Priscilla 'using' her name is this.
IMO, I don't think anyone had a problem with Priscilla calling herself Priscilla Presley. After all, that is her name. She didn't re-marry. She didn't go back to her maiden name, which in my experience, the majority of people don't.
I think what gets a lot of peoples goat is that she has said or hinted that the Presley name was a burden, changed it back to Beaulieu and then changed it back to Presley. I think a lot of people wouldn't have bothered even to think about it had she kept the married name in the first place.
As far as both Lisa and Priscilla modelling. Priscilla (back then) and Lisa (now) are both very attractive IMO. However, I think Priscilla's face was much more suited to modelling than Lisa's.
About the MM. Why do you all feel some (not all) disliked Priscilla so much. I imagine the overriding feeling now is envy due to the amount of money EPE has made.
But I think it started a long way before that. I think it was the usual situation of "boy with mates having a good time, girl comes along and suddenly things change and friends get jealous of girlfriend." I think its as simple as that.
Priscilla said in her book that one of the things that changed after she moved in (or after the wedding, not sure haven't read it in ages) was the meals at Graceland. At one time the MM could eat anything at anytime. Then it all changed to one meal, and people could eat or not eat it! Personally I agree with Priscilla here.
Another thing that comes to mind, can't remember if it was via Linda or Priscilla, was that people used to get competitive over who sat next to Elvis in the move theatre! And that they (girlfriend) never had to worry on that score, but used to hear the others bickering.
When you think about it, it all sounds ever so childish. But if you imagine you were there, I bet a lot of us would have done the same!! I mean, its ELVIS!!
