Alanna Nash’s third (fourth if you count Alan Fortas’ book) Elvis related book was – beforehand - the least attractive in my opinion. What do I care about Elvis’ girlfriends? Well, since we got a review copy I decided to give it a...

I bought this book and am reading it. I was curious to read about the women who I didn't read their book or hear about. Some of it is intersting. I also know that Alannah is a sensationalistic writer. A lot of psychological garbage and other insinuations. I don't think it's one of the better books in my collection.

Nash isn't a "sensationalistic writer".
Some of her subjects and their contributions are sensational.

I was a surprised to read about Gladys's early life. I did not know all of it. How hurtfull and sorrowfull. Sad stuf. I always feel kind of sorry for her. Still she had a lot of class and grace. Bless her and all mothers.

You can read a lot of detail about Glady's life and the history of the Presely's in the book "Elvis and Gladys". I would recommend it. Was a good read.

I'm almost done reading this book. I'm up to the years of his out of control drug taking. I hate reading this part in any books about him but I'm still curious to see what other women have to say. Overall I would rate this book a C. Don't spend full amount on this. I'm glad I didn't.

So is it truly worth purchasing? If it is, I'll add it to the collection.

I was at a Half Price bookstore yesterday, they had several of the hardback books at a really low price, I just bought the paperback, wish I'd waited,
oh well, I'll start reading this next.

Vernon was a lazy moocher.
Elvis knew him for who and what he was, but tolerated him out of obligation.

I think that's a tad harsh................he did love his Dad.
I do think maybe he didn't have enough respect for his Dad that he could have had........

Vernon had his faults as does everybody else but I do believe that Elvis and his Dad loved each other. See how Vernon hugs Elvis at Elvis and Priscilla's wedding. There's no doubt in my mind that he loved his son quite a lot and Elvis loved his Dad.

You had to know Vernon for who/what he really was. He had no respect for Elvis and he sponged off his own son, contented, while E worked hard for years, all the while spiraling downward. A loving parent will do everything they can to pick a child up before they fall and hit rock bottom. Vernon was no loving parent. He loved money.

I can't see that Vernon was that great a hubby either - hooking up with a married woman in Germany (who had clearly set her cap for Elvis) and then marrying Dee so soon after Gladys' death.

I doubt Elvis ever forgave him, but he had a strong family streak and Elvis hired a lot of uncles and cousins and gave money to the relatives with their hands out

I just finished the paperback version of this in two days. It wasnt bad. There was a lot of stuff in there that I had read before. Especially from the 50's until the end of Priscilla's tenure. I enjoyed reading about the women that came into his life in the seventies. Now there was alot of stuff there that I had not read before. It was worth at least one read to me because I like her other books about Elvis.

Out of all the books, I liked Elvis and Gladys book best. Maybe because it showed his life as a child and how they all grew up in Miss. To me, most of the women in this book didn't know him long enough to know anything about him.Nor did they seem to want to.

I'll have to pick that one up. I notice that people reference it alot here at TCB World.

Elvis was like all individuals, you do not choose your parents, you may have little respect for them....but in the end you love them.
Elvis worried when his father was ill, and was happy to introduce him to the crowd when his father was able to travel with him after his serious heart problems-so I have no doubts about the love he had for him.

It is a good one - the first few chapters are bor-ing IMO! A lot of genealogy, but it really moves along after that!
You read BLPH in a few days? I'll have to give it a go, then..

So many people still trying to make money off of Elvis, sickens me. The ones that know the real truth have said all they could say and then you have this. + more people. I would like to know where they get alot of this.
