i recently bought this book by former security chief dick grob, i saw this for sale and over the years avoided buying it because i head it wasn't that good etc.. I found that it was very interested and gave some insight into the last days that E.P. would spend on earth, along with great vies of the peolple who were there on that fateful day. The most intriguing part for me was the part about ginger alden and how she had made calls to the media and her relationship with ELVIS , it's obvious that grob and ginger didn;t like each other, it is a great read it kept me interested from start to finish. Anyone have the book and what did you think?

no, this is one I don't have.

In the latest essentialelvis mag, she has been interviewed and disputes that happened

How did Dick know all this? Was he in the room with Ginger & Elvis? I think not(n)

Grob's book, unfortunately, is chock full of errors and mis-information. Ginger did not make any calls from inside the house to 'tip-off' anyone about Elvis's death. And the reason she was dressed in full makeup when Joe and the medics arrived were supposedly because Elvis liked for his women/girlfriends to be that way. Plus, he did not have access to the autopsy report at all like he claims in the book.

I will give him one thing, though.....and this is the only time you'll ever see/read that I'm giving a positive opinion on Dick Grob......for those of us who weren't there during those dark days, that book is probably the closest any of us will come to experiencing what it was like inside Graceland during those dark days in August, 1977, when we lost Elvis.

Grob never was Elvis's 'Chief Of Security', either. Grob's another person who wants to make himself more important in Elvis's world than he actually was.

The only time Dick went upstairs was when he was discussing final details of the upcoming tour with Elvis on the 15th and that was it.

i read tjis interview from essential ELVIS and how she explained things like the lawsuit over the house ELVIS bought for her mother etc.. it just seems she also didn't care for grob.

All your questions should have been answered in Bubba Ho-Tep. Please refer to the film for further info.

Elvis has left the building.

I don't put much stock in Dick Grobe. he was supposedly there when they moved Elvis's body from Forest Lawn to Graceland. Not sure how much he knew or didn't. I wouldn't pay for this book but I'd read it if I could get if frrom the library or something. Not going to rush to read it.

I swore I'd never read this book . Why? Because I'd listened to too many others talk about it. A friend of mine bought it for me, so I read it.
I must say, I liked it. It is not done all up fancy, but more like a police report in some cases. It's been hard to put it all together. I did realize he & Ginger were not fond of each other . ;)
I've been meaning to try & look up the guy that supposedly worked for the Enquirer to see what he has to say. I get side-tracked.

I do know he & Sam Thompson seem to have a good relationship.
Glad I read it & will with hold judgment until I know more.

I think people might take him more seriously if his name wasn't Dick Grob. http://smiley.net.ru/misanm0571.gif

What I find interesting (interesting is probably the wrong word!!) is how many titles the MM have!!

I have heard Joe Esposito referred to as both Road Manager and Accountant.
Dick Grob AND Sam Thompson both Head of Security ?
Marty Lacker, Accountant and Security:blink:
Red West is sometimes just Memphis Mafia Member (as in didn't have a title) and sometimes Bodyguard.

To be perfectly honest non of these guys has been honourable to Elvis' memory, they are guilty of over fabricating to get published.

I don't doubt there were dark days in the Presley household in the late 70's, having this bunch of sycophants around certainly didn't help.

A total fabrication, designed by jealous "fans" to discredit this mostly innocent and naive young woman.

Have to agree there is much wrong with Grob's book. Despite this it is a fascinating read and as others have said, it does give a great feel for what it was like to be inside Graceland at such an emotionally trying time.

Agreed, considering her role in Elvis' life she could of quite easily profiteered far more than she has done. In fact those who have condemned her have done so to profit from her misfortune. Ginger was mixed up in Elvis' life when she couldn't have influenced him in any way. She may have been dazzled by the fame and fortune but her silence since Elvis' death reveals she wasn't a complete gold digger!

Supposedly Elvis was expected to choose Ginger's older sister and all we're surprised when he chose her...including her. I don't think she was prepared for that but feel like Priscilla, her family encouraged it. I think she liked Elvis to a point but I don't think she was ever in love with him nor he with her.

I also don't believe she was a complete gold digger nor as cold as she's been made out to be but I do think she was too young to handle the situation she found herself in.

Joe Esposito was Elvis's road manager and, yes, at one time he was his accountant (along with Marty Lacker).

Dick Grob & Sam Thompson both shared Head of Security details (if I'm deciphering Grob's book correctly - it's so darn confusing (you have to remember that this was after Red, Sonny & Dave were fired). Up to that point, it was Sonny West who was Head of Security.

Red West was both a member of the MM and a bodyguard.

Absolutely correct, how could a girl of her age have any experience in life, let alone that of a superstar who had dependencies and baggage even close friends couldn't help with?
