i hate to bring up the subject of ELVIS untimely passing , please forgive me , and also forgive me and take down this thread if its bin discussed before, but i would like to know why ELVIS PRESLEY wasn't heralded as much by many people /celeberties durring his short and great lifetime, i recently came across a interview with mrs anne margret to where she says why didn't these same entertainers come to his defence while the tabloids/press and carson were giving ELVIS a real hard time durring the last 2 years of his life[fat jokes etc..] I've often wondered if he really had the support of celebrity fans like jones, sammy davis junior, sinatra and the like, even now many celebs distance themselves from saying anything really positive or sincere. Why is my question?

I hate when people bring up how he passed away and talk about how overweight he was it kills me inside emtionally, I try not to let it get to me but it does hurt. I try not to watch anything releated to his passing cause it hurts and I do cry from it. When I went to Graceland and saw the family i shed tears cause its very sad.

in my opinion, all these tabloids, people (like carson) all picked on Elvis those last couple of years of his life, was lets face it Elvis was on top of the world for most of his life,he was a great looking man,had great amount of talent and more things then that, so when he fell those last cuople of years it was open season on our hero remember people are always built up for the media that so when they fall the media and people will hit them hard and fast and make sure that our heros fall hard. EPE in my opinion has not helped his image by selling viva las vegas toilet paper rolls, or stupid blue suede shoe stalkings , and instead focusing on were it should have always been on Elvis voice and the music he made with it!

I do not shy away from Elvis' death. It makes me very sad ,even now.
It's the way it's described . Someone had to have started the wild stories . Who was it? Find them & make them correct it.
Blame EPE all you like , but who buys such silly things?
That's where the blame should be placed .
I've seen this for over 30 years. We, the fans made Elvis what he was.
He said so himself. Can't we now begin to fix the image some have created?
Correct people when they tell such stories & jokes of his death.
Don't buy anything that would make him look silly & tell others to not buy it either. If we don't, who will?

I don't see where they erected many statues around the country of other entertainers but even now, new ones are being put up of Elvis.

also very true but EPE does not help the situation,by putting such product out,and very true that the fans who buy this stuff dont help either, but unfourtunaly Elvis has become product and image that would make colonel parker blush.

As you've said & I've stated elsewhere; Elvis has become a product.
No one will have a business {product} that doesn't make money.
We cannot stop EPE by fighting among each other.
We can only make sure "silly products" put out in his name don't sell.
By letting them know we won't buy it !!
I'd have to disagree with you that any item for sale would make Parker blush though.
IF he was getting a profit from it.;)
I remember one example; the "talking head." I was asked to sign a letter to
EPE to stop making & selling them . I did & so did many others.
They didn't sell. I still see one every so often, but they didn't make money off of it.

AMEN to that!!! (y)
Most entertainers really were not close to Elvis, so its hard for them to know who he was.
I know he has gotten slammed by some before and after he died, but those who did have more than a passing acquaintance with him have always had nice things to say Such as Sammy Davis Jr who steadfastly defended Elvis to his detractors in most interviews I have seen.
