I know people want to make more and more money out of Elvis and I can see the advantages, but I think it should be left as it is.

When we went to Tupelo we found more than enough "Elvis places" to visit, places to eat etc.

It doesn't need changing, it's peaceful and so different from Memphis, i love going there.

I think they're misjudging their target market badly, here.
Anybody who has taken the time to travel all the way to Tupelo as a tourist for 'Elvis reasons' will most likely have already visited Memphis or will be scheduled to do so as part of their trip.

Visitors to Memphis who consider going the extra distance to Tupelo are usually those who are looking for an unspoilt and personal experience which they can't find in a town which has been rebuilt almost entirely by the Elvis Industry.

You can't blame Tupelo for wanting a slice of the financial cake which it's Tennessean neighbors are enjoying, but I hope they find a way to do it without simply creating a Memphis Mark II.

Since the home where Elvis was born famously doesn't contain a single original furnishing from the day, it would help pilgrims to know that its surrounding environment hasn't completely changed beyond recognition.

It was my first time, and I thought it was lovely as it was. It has a charm of it's own, and doesn't need to be, as you put it, 'Memphis II'

Sadly, both times I was in Memphis to visit Graceland I didn't have time to travel down to Tupelo. Sounds like I should have made more of an effort to get down there before it gets turned into a metropolis... :hmm: :'(
