Elvis was almost blind? I hope this is not directly quoted from Dr Nick's book...
I imagine it's just an over-the-top dramatic way of saying he had glaucoma, to sell the book (if that was a quote from Dr N)

Elvis Presley suffered from gout, migraines and constipation, and was nearly blind from glaucoma, his doctor reveals in a tell-all book.
Dr. George Nichopoulos -- known as "The Man Who Killed Elvis" because he allegedly wrote 10,000 prescriptions for him in his last year -- also tries to shoot down persistent rumors that The King was murdered or took an intentional overdose when he died at age 42 in 1977.
Elvis suffered from so many ailments that any of them could have killed him, he said. Presley had arthritis, a fatty liver, an enlarged heart and a colon swollen to twice its normal size.
ELVIS PRESLEY Was a physical wreck.
Elvis also believed he had "desert throat" so the doctor gave him a "voice shot" of liquid cocaine and steroids.

I have not read Nick's entire book but have read the part about Elvis' visit to the doctor when his eye was bothering him.
IIRC, the doctor told Elvis - Nick & Barbara Leigh were also there in the doctor's room - that if the pressure in his eye was not relieved immediately he could go blind. I believe the eye doctor gave Elvis two options at that point. Elvis elected to have the 'shot in his eye' that was administered right then and there with Barbara holding his hand.
The book did say Elvis loved telling the story 'about the needle in his eye' and each time he told it the story and needle would grow in size. There was no mention of 'blindness' as far as I recall.
Maybe the author of the NYPost article is taking artistic license or maybe I just didn't get to that part in the book yet.
:king:
Glaucoma can cause blindness if untreated. But surely saying something like "he could go blind" is the same as saying someone "could" get run over by a bus. anything could happen.

I think it was Joyce Bova who had the 'pleasure' of watching the needle going into his eye..............

This was the account given by Nick in his book. Barbara Leigh was in Nashville for E's recording session and in the room when E was given an eye injection.
In Bova's book Don't Ask Forever, her account says Elvis was given an eye injection in Lisa Marie's bedroom at Graceland.
Barbara Leigh was with Elvis through his hospital stay in Nashville. On the Friday he was discharged, Barbara flew back to LA and JBova flew into Nashville. She met Elvis at the airport and accompanied him on the flight back to Memphis. JBova stayed with Elvis for a few days at Graceland.
Careless Love notes an eye injection in Nashville only.

I just read another article about Nick's book titled "Elvis was blind" so I guess you are right. One started with "Elvis was almost blind", another understood "Elvis was blind" and I guess next week we'll read another one stating Elvis had a glass eye.

Did anyone happen to catch Saturday Night Live last night? The anchorman segment featured a photo of Elvis overweigth and tired looking, my first reaction was "Oh NO!"
They had Dr. Nick's quote about Elvis' illness and then panned to Dr. Nick's New Book (entitled) "I'm A Bad Doctor" It cracked me up!
Neverending

Do believe a lot of people here this crap in newspapers?
I just finished Dr. Nick's book and in my opinion it is a good book. It's written in a sincere and respectful way.
To be honest I was a little suspect as I knew about the book at first. But my concerns not come true. Dr. Nick tells about how it cames to be Elvis Doctor and of what kind of deases he suffered and how they was treated by him. He show up how it came to all the rumors of a dead caused by overdosis of prescribtion drugs and how start his law-suits against him.
In my mind he was a very welcome sacrificial lamb- even for the press.
True is that Elvis was sick like a dog and a lot of other medical specialist like Dr. Meridian, Dr. Brokoff, Dr. Tennant ect. stated that cause of Elvis death was not an overdose.
Read at first the book and then judge.

Agree with you . The best book about Elvis I've read in years. (y)
No gossip, no put downs, explanations on many things.
IF anyone will pay attention, will give Elvis back a little dignity & humaness .
Wish he'd written this years ago.I'm thankful he's tried anyway.

Like everyone else.. Was very skeptical of this book.Almost didn't get it.
Was pleasantly surprised. He explains a lot that's in other books & tabloids .
I enjoyed the telling of his & Elvis' families times together the most.
It was a breath of fresh air. He doesn't take sides ,just tells it like it was.
Hope he can make the laughter & jokes stop. It's way past time.
