I've been an Elvis fan since early childhood - and I'm going to be 42 in January.
Growing up, I bought all the Elvis records - back when an LP could be gotten for a $5 and get change back!
and I bought all the books I could find and read everything.
but I first encountered fan shot footage in the mid' 90s
with youtube and dvds there just been an explosion of footage
I really thought for the longest time that the only film was the tv appearances, movies and so forth
This is Elvis in 1980 hinted at a lot of home movies
but the sheer the range of clips on the Hot Shots and Cool clips, all the fan shot concerts dvds
I wonder why documentaries/tribute shows in the 90s and 80's always relied on the same few clips - when there's all this other footage out there
hopefully, more early fan shot stuff will come out of people's attics and crawl spaces
but it's shocking to me that Fox was sitting on the Tupelo concert footage all these years

I still find it amazing to see how much Elvis stuff is out there now, when I became a fan back in the early `80s there was next-to-nothing,or at least that`s how it seemed to me at the time. My biggest excitements back then were waiting for the postman to deliver my next cd in my attempt to complete the basic collection, and reading the "Elvis monthly" over and over! I`m still relatively new to the internet but it is still amazing to me to be able to watch so much Elvis and to be able to chat and talk with other fans on sites like this.
It seems to me as well that there is always at least one more well-kept secret waiting around the corner...just when you think it`s all out there along comes something else!... fingers crossed anyway!

...And the little there is SHOULD BE OFFICIALLY RELEASED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!!!!!
I don't know what Turner or whoever are waiting for! They are worried of commercial viability? They will worry even more as the years pass by. It is us - the fans - who will buy the stuff. Elvis isn't in the commercial - popular - Top 10 - MTV category anymore. So dear Turner or whoever don't expect to sell large millions of dvd's.
When they released TV series from the 70's, they did not expect to sell large millions of copies. Why? because although very good 'Kojak', 'Quincy ME', 'Wonder Woman' etc are now down memory lane and the truth is they will leave little impact on youngsters accustomed to 'CSI', 'Cold Case', '24', 'Lost', etc.
Still they released them and made many many people happy (including myself). So why not doing the same with Elvis' stuff such as box sets of TTWII and ON TOUR (among other things)
The fan footage I have seen in the last 5 years amazed me.
I thought that most people would not try to smuggle film cameras into his concerts...but was I wrong:D

Were cameras restricted in the 70's?

We won't see too much official footage released in the coming years because it all comes down to MONEY.
TTWII:SE was a commercial failure in every respect.
Elvis On Tour will never see an update as it simply costs too much to do it.
In Concert? Even if it costs nothing to get it out, EPE will never do it.
Meanwhile, we still have certain "collectors" out there lying through their teeth by saying they have unreleased professional footage.
Remember two years ago when Christian M, among others, said there was going to be a "huge release next spring" that would put doubters like me in their place?
We're still waiting! :D

And waiting, and waiting and waiting. I don't think there is anymore pro footage, only what private collectors have in the tight hands.

it would be nice though if EPE did buy up some of the footage i'm sure i'm not the only fan that would buy it.

Even worse: most of them still do. We, the fans, have access to wonderful amazing stuff, but the casual tv-watcher at home is still catered the same clips. Same goes for the average visitors of musicstores, but that's a different story ;)
But besides all the great material that's being released everywhere, the main advantage of these days is that everything can be accessed so easily (thank you mister internet :D).

I'm glad to know that the experience was shared - thinking there's a lack of pro or decent fan footage
when there's so much - that Hot Shots and Cool Clips series - I was blown away by all the newsreel army footage
and all these fan finds of I was on vacation and came across an Elvis movie being filmed - or other early footage - even in colour of his 50's concerts.

You're half right.
I don't think there's any pro shot footage in collectors' hands, save for perhaps concert outtakes that have yet to see the light of day.
The only pro-shot thing released lately was that footage of Elvis arriving in his hotel in Huntsville (?) in '75.
There's possibly some of Elvis arriving and leaving other hotels, airports etc.
But as for pro-shot concerts?
Never!
All we have is '68 and Aloha (everything released); TTWII (virtually everything released in one way or another); On Tour (still plenty in the vaults of just the FOUR shows that were shot) and In Concert (everything releeased in one way or another).
And yet Christian and others keep their lies coming ... and fool a lot of people out there.
But not this little black duck.

I have many dvdrs of EOT and TTWI OUttakes and same goes for the Cbs Special but I would love more than anything to have TTWII AND EOT released in the same manner they did with the 1968 Comeback Special and Aloha From Hawaii, that would be this fans dream. Until they day comes will have to make due with what we have. What I don't understand is this. They say we will never get anything like that because of money, but with all the money that Sillerman is to have, and EPE were serious about wanting to get those two documentaries out in the same fashion as aloha and the nbc special of 1968 why don't EPE just buy the footage from MGM/Warner Bros and do put it out themselves!?:hmm:

yup, if EPE doesn't want to release In Concert
then they should be getting on the phone and getting all the footage for the 2 concert films
4 pro filmed and unreleased concerts - why why why are they sitting on that?

Sillerman is at this moment not nearly as well off as when he acquired his 85% of Elvis's likeness-and he has been doing some backpeddling on a lot of projects because of the economic situation....but I am sure buying the recorded works and films has been considered in thinking out loud sessions at EPE/Sillerman.
The bottom line is it would cost to much to buy it all. The recordings especially are IMO priceless-the record company has to do nothing really and each year they make money hand over fist with virtually no overhead except production of the cds and the artwork.
I'm sure the same problem would be in spending the cash for all the films or even just TTWII or EOT- the studios would want too much-they also can spend little and every 5-10 years put out a new set of his movies and make money. If it costs a $1.50 for the DVD (artwork, production of the dvd etc) and they sell it for even as low as $5.99 they make $4.50 profit for each one sold with no one to pay royalties to. If they sell just a 100,000 thats half a million in profit for little expense. Some sell better some worse but its all profit.
TTWII SE was marketed badly-and it keeps the studio from going that route again-just easier to remarket the films with little special treatment-and reap the profit every so often.

Thankfully we have STAR that is actually making good DVD's. Sometimes the footage itself isn't great but they always find a way to combine it with great footage and most of all GREAT sound.
Live Spirits is a great DVD to find out what I mean if you don't already have it.

Hey Waymore,
for great fan footage I suggest getting the 3 DVD Set titled 'Pieces Of My Life'. Combination of fan footage from the 1970's with good sounding music synched in with the footage. It really is outstanding!

Can you imagine had they done a special in March of 1974 covering Elvis' Memphis concerts like they did with the CBS Special...so many lost moments.
The Colonel was not a big fan of filming anything just for the heck of it-or for something in the future-if he did not have a deal for something he was not going to go to the expense of filming in any professional way.
Shortsighted IMO-especially things like, the Astrodome, MSG, the return to Memphis shows,...but he probably did not think Elvis would die so young like most everyone else.

i do believe and know that there is much and great footage both candid and concert on super 8mm , i fimed every show i attended-38 some good many far off , and i know that people/collectors like sheriff hanna have some really mind blowing film of course some 16mm and super 8mm no pro footage but i think we have to understand much will never be on shiny or in fans hands , durring the mid 80's larry patrick supplied most of the footage that now makes the rounds in 3rd 4th gen, also len leeches stuff on vhs was great until rosemary put a stop because the films were circulating the world and this is most collectors nightmare i know its mine because it was and still is to have recorded this tuff and transfering it to shiny is costly.

When I first had the internet connected years ago, one of the first things I did, was to look for footage with Elvis.
There wasn't much, and then............ my entire world opened :D :D :D (y)
