ex-doctor nickhttp://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f137/bellaselena/th_doctor-118.gif has a bookie coming out sometime early 2010:blink:...Dr. Nichopoulos spent a decade with Elvis on the road and at Graceland, trying to maintain the precarious health of one of the world's greatest entertainers. But on August 16, 1977, he found himself in the ambulance with Elvis on that fateful last trip to the ER. He signed the death certificate.
From that day forward, Dr. Nick became the focus of a media witch hunt that threatened his life and all but destroyed his professional reputation. Now, for the first time, Dr. Nick reveals the true story behind Elvis's drug use and final days-not the version formed by years of tabloid journalism and gross speculation. Put aside what you've learned about Elvis's final days and get ready to understand for the first time the inner workings of "the king of rock n' roll."....will you peeps be getting a copy of this bookie? or will you skip it

I think he thinks he's clever and doing a riff on The King and I
as a title.
and he can't really say what happened to Elvis, without taking responsibility for his part
it'll be full of excuses and probably promote the bone cancer story - or maybe the murder one
he's told so many over the years

I see.
And you've seen a promo for the book, have you, or are you psychic enough to read what's in the good doctor's thoughts?
Call me crazy, but one can't offer an opinion on a book until one has actually read it.

I'm not sure yet whether I'll buy it but I will be very interested to know how he plays this. I am half inclined to think that either he or his publisher is smart enough to know that, after all this time and all these credible accounts from others who were there, if he were to not be honest and forthright and revealing for the first time, critics will pan the book and it will not sell.
How old is Dr. Nick now? He doesn't have a whole lot of years left, right? I'm not trying to be disrespectful; just saying that perhaps he is willing to let his guard down now and is also doing so the book can do well, maybe mostly for the sake of his children and their families.

I'm not sure yet if I'm going to pick this one up... :hmm:
I do have George Klein's book on pre-order and have toyed with the idea of picking up Dr. Nick's book too. I hate to give money to the Doc but I am most interested to get his take on things. As Deb said, it's interesting to get different perspectives from the people around Elvis on what happened but none of it can really be considered the gospel truth.

Precisely Mike.............a little bit of everyone's stories
I'm not sure I'll buy it-but will read it if it ends up in my local library.
He has a story like all the rest and it would not be fair to not see what he has to say.

not psychic, just predicting based on his previous claims in interviews and magazine articles.

I think Dr.Nick waited too long to release this book had he done it within 5 or 10 years of Elvis' death the hype, the controversy and the interest by all the fans and even non fans surrounding this book would've been huge which would have resulted in more sales and more money.
32 years after Elvis' death Dr.Nick's story just isn't as interesting because so much has been said already about his death and Elvis has been gone a long time now.
So Dr.Nick blew it

If so, there's a chance that he's writing this book not only for money! ;)

not really
The other reason would be to tell his side of the story and try and change people's perception about him
He could've and should've tried to do that years ago and at the same time as I said the book would've done better if he had done that.
A lot of people that would've read a book by Dr.Nick 15-20 years ago won't now.
As I said Dr.Nick just blew it

Possible. This would imply he's convinced of his innocense...why would he wait 32 years to defend himself and tell the truth?

I'm sure Dr.Nick is convinced of his innocence even if he knows he was really guilty he's probably convinced himself that he was falsely accused and would never admit to any wrong doing anyway.
It's like a lot of people in prison that are guilty as hell would never admit to the crime or crimes the've committed.
He may admit to doing a couple of things a little unethical but he'll say it was all for the good of Elvis and his other patients like he has said in the past when first accused of overprescribing.

Well, but then....what 'new' would he have to offer in his book?

I"ll be getting this.I think Elvis used alot of doctors to get prescription drugs and I don"t think he was an angel but I think he did care. Billy Smith and Dr Nick did try changing his medication with placebos.
"But the man cared, and I"d hate like hell to have been Dr Nick and had Elvis Presley for a patient" quote by Billy Smith Revelations of Memphis Mafia .I can understand that. I"ve read some interviews with Dr Nick a open mind and will do the same with his book.
