It is quite understandable because he was so big and original and he really started a new sound and introduce a musical revolution. Poeple tend to join the band wagon of trying to sound or be like him. That is how much he have influenced a lot of people some of them refused to acknowledge it.

You're absolutely right! I heard Conway Twitty on the radio and had to listen carefully. I thought it was a new Elvis song I never heard before. LOL.

But here's another one who sounds like early Elvis. I'm not sure of the connection between the video and the song, but the information says "Paul Ansell`s no.9 at sun, Lonely blue boy ".

Conway has readily admitted he heard Elvis songs when he got out of the Army-and he said "hey I can do that" so he started writing rock songs and he admits he sounded "Elvisy" But he finally tired of rock and says his true leanings were country-so he switched-which for him was the best move he ever made.

I liked Conway's country stuff, he could do the voice for sure..though there's a bit more to Elvis than just the voice!!LOL... glad Conway followed his own path.....

All the record companies back in the late '50's were all looking for the next "Elvis." Look when Gene Vincent recorded Be-Bop-A-Lula,everybody thought that was a "new" song by Elvis.I read or hear somewhere, that even Gladys Presley thought, that Be-Bop-A-Lula was sung by Elvis.

Terry stafford too..conway twitty , ahhh the one who did summertime blues?
But one look at them and the spell was lost! They didn't have the "Magic" Elvis had, he didn't have to ay a word, just walk out... and it was instant standing ovation!
God those were the days..

Elvis

Conway Twitty took the song Danny that Elvis had recorded for the movie King Creole ( the song was not released on the soundtrack or used in the film)
Conway retitled the song, changed the tempo slightly, and changed the lyrics to Lonely boy blue
he had a top 10 hit with it in 1960.

In the 50's and early 60's Elvis had a lot of artists who were vocal imitators but it seemed after that time the only artists that actually sounded like him in my opinion were Creedence Clearwater Revival.
Creedence Clearwater's sound sounds like an update of Elvis' 50's rock n' roll sound they were also very roots oriented like Elvis was.

Another artist who sounded like Elvis in the early 60's was Joe Dowell.
He released Wooden heart as a single in the United States after RCA opted not to that gave him a # 1 hit. He was a one hit wonder.

he was unique qua looks, sound, mannerism..... he had it all and people looked up to him. Perfect understandable. Many tried to copy him, but there was ONLY ONE.

YEs, that's what you get being an icon. Same goes for the Beach Boys: when they were big, tons of Surfing bands emerged. Or with the British Invasion: suddenly all bands had the same haircuts and suits. Even this decade with the boybands: they were all the same, based on the best-selling examples.

Or how about this whole "sing when you swing" bigband artists like Michael Doublé (or whatever his name is). They all are so obviously doing their best Frank Sinatra kinda impression: from setlist, to sound, choice of songs, etc.

Thank god, we as Elvisfans can repeat Elvis' own famous words (that says so much about him): "I sound like nobody". 'Nuff said :D

There's a difference between being roots-oriented and copying a style. That's why I do care for some songs/music by CCR, but not by many of the male singers from the 50's. A lot of them just added nothing original to the fuzz created by Elvis.

Don't blame me for trying to imitate Marilyn Monroe though.. I'm young and need the work..

CCRs music sounded like old 50s but the vocals were there own. John Fogerty sounds nothing like Elvis.

One of my favourite covers of an Elvis song would be Creedence Clearwater doing " My Baby left me", the same feel of the Elvis version, very authentic sound...but without the usual uh-huh-ing that people get up to when doing an Elvis song.(y)(y)(y)

Elvis is only and to have a special touch in his voice, nobody to be able to sing since Elvis, alone Elvis there is one.
