Finally, Kurt Russell “Elvis biopic” to see DVD release:

http://www.elvisinfonet.com/image-files/KurtRussellElvis.jpegAfter a number of false starts, it appears that finally, the critically acclaimed, although factually strained, “Elvis” from Director, John Carpenter and starring, Kurt Russell, will see a DVD release.

Elvis Unlimited reports that: Shout! Factory is preparing to release to DVD from the Dick Clark Productions vault: the 1979 TV movie Elvis. Under the agreement, Shout! Factory has exclusive U.S. and Canada home entertainment distribution rights.
Elvis, directed by John Carpenter, starred Kurt Russell as Elvis Presley in a biopic of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. The film also stars Shelly Winters as Elvis’ mother and Pat Hingle as Col. Tom Parker.

This release is expected in 2010. (News, Source: Elvis Unlimited (http://www.elvis-unlimted.com/))

Although this movie might look dated today, it was actually, at the time, a good one.

The story line might be a little bit on the melodramatic side, yet, Kurt has made and by far, the Best Elvis on a movie to date, to me it is welcome on my DVD collection, looking forward to it.

Hope this DVD release contain both edits of it, the one showed on TV, and the home video version that was little longer.

This is a good film although as mentioned a bit on the dramatic side.

The suit Kurt is wearing above is the real Adonis suit! The belt is not YUK!

I have a copy I recorded off TV years ago. I like the Movie, I'll buy it if it comes out officially. That said I'll believe it when I pick it up off a shelf in the store. Different people have announced it too many times now.

No EPE does not own it, nor have any say so it was a Dick Clark production.

I quite liked this movie when it came out, but I was only a kid then(haven't seen it since then) so it will be interesting to see what I think of it as an adult..

I don't consider this one as a serious biography picture. But -as I wrote on another message borad on this topic- I would buy a biopic with Bruce C. playing Elvis anytime! :king:

Unfortunately in the sequel to Bubba Ho-Tep
Bruce is not reprising his role as Elvis, he did not like the direction of the script is the supposed reason.

Thanks for the article Franny. I have the movie in VHS so probably won't buy the DVD. If I replaced everything I have of Elvis on DVD, I'd probably go broke in no time.

I thought the sequel wasn't going to be done when Bruce decided to turn it down? I can't see the sequel being as good without him in it.

I don't consider this one as a serious biography picture.

Neither do I, can't understand the need to turn Elvis' whole life into a drama...

Full of many factual and musical errors. Yes, I knew what they were back in '78. Long before the Internet and an Elvis "expert" behind every bush to point every little thing out. Nevertheless I enjoyed the film then and I plan on enjoying it now. Glad it's finally coming to DVD. Even though I don't expect stunning quality from Shout! Factory. Hope I'm wrong.

The very same thought that I had when I read this!(y)(y)(y)
Even though I think Kurt Russell did a good job in the role I find it kind of difficult to get excited by the release of the film on Dvd, I can`t imagine that I would watch it more than once... then it would go on the bottom shelf with all the other stuff that I`ll probably never see again!

No, really, only watch it once? I think I'd watch it a few times- when trying to put the kids to sleep, when people are over that I wish would just leave . . .

Okay...the unwanted guests I can imagine....but God almighty don`t let it be the last thing the kids see before they go to sleep...they might spend the rest of their days deep in conversation with their own shadows on the wall!!!:wacko::wacko:

Uh-no! So does that mean the sequel will be unrealistic?
My apologies if my sarcasm offends, but come on! Bubba Ho-Tep was just way over the top, [everything I love in a sci-fi!] I don't see that it was at all true to Elvis' image - I'm going tohave to go and put that back in the player and watch it again. It's gotta be better than what I'm watching now, anyway!

And I thought the reason Bruce turned it down was that he was offered a more permanent job with Burn Notice - which is an excellent show, IMO!
