View Full Version : If Elvis wrote a book

Brian

I got to thinking what if Evis wrote a book about his life what would he say about the people around him?

Would he bash Colonel Parker for making some bad decisions or praise him?

Would he say only nice things about Priscilla or talk about the bad things about Priscilla?

What would his thoughts be on each of the Memphis Mafia members
would he tell some crude stories about them like they did about in Revelations of the Memphis Mafia?
or would it be all nice things?

Do you think he would share juicy details of his life or would his book be a complete whitewash?

I tend to think if he had written a book about his life he would just say nice things about everybody, and not go into any of the juicer details of his life.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

I think elvis would not have wrote a book... having seen what the book " elvis what happend" did to him i think this is the last thing he would want to do.. i dont think elvis was the type of guy to do all the tell all stories of the guys around him..i know he could never keep things to himself.. but that was verble not on paper.

elvislady :hmm:

good question btw brian!

Someone said he was thinking about writing a book. Can't remember who. Larry I think. Elvis said he would have called it "Through My Eyes"

If he had written a book called Through My Eyes which I think would have been a good title, I think he would have written about his life experiences and not revealed anything personal about anyone around him...that wasn't his style.

The book is If I Can Dream, by Larry Geller. It's some book, too. But of course, a lot of people think it's HorseDookie! Not me, however, as the jury's still out.
And then there's the fact that Larry didn't know Elvis his whole career.

One thing about Elvis, he wouldn't have written a book - he couldn't sit still long enough, that's probably why he didn't write any songs. And if he did, I doubt he'd be 100% honest- he'd be a real story teller - wanting to make it much more interesting. In My Opinion!

The book i would like Elvis to have written is the most crazy fan experiences & his own story about his childhood ....Vernon's Prison time ect, Of course he would leave out his own short comings with the drug use ect, I'm not knocking Elvis..but, who would show "warts" & all about yourself in a book?:hmm:

Larry didnt have to know Elvis his whole career for Elvis to discuss with him about writing a book.

Elvis was known for embellising stories from the Bible, so no doubt if he had written a book it would have been a great read. Plus he may well have done what other "celebs" do these days - including Priscilla - use someone else to actually write the book.

that's very true

Priscilla and other celebs are always saying I wrote a book about my life
No, they verbally told their story to a professional writer who then wrote their books.

Sandra Harmon actually wrote Elvis and Me

Elvis definately would've hired a professional writer to write his autobiography.

Elvis: Word for Word by Jerry Osborne is the closest thing to having a book written by Elvis.

At least you know everything in that book was actually said by Elvis, and not some rumor like in the other books.

Also, I have a Signed First Edition of Elvis: Word for Word. (y)

Agree with both of you.

He always said, 'what goes on inside, stays inside'...........can't see him doing 'a tell all'

I have to admit that I have never given this subject much thought. Good thread idea.
Well, if Elvis had written a book, and in small ways he could have used his special notes to compile this with help, I think if he wanted to. He was known to doodle and scribble words and thoughts on just about everything that was a piece of paper.
I can't see him trashing anyone, I think the only subject Elvis might have found worthy to write a personal book about, would be his beloved Mother.
He would have talked about growing up, the many sacrifices and hardships of the family, maybe school and his first girlfriends (respectfully).
He would have wrote about songs he liked by other people and animals he loved, parts of the world that he would have liked to visit but hadn't made it there yet... our man would have been gentle, such as the books by Larry Geller. He loved Larry, he liked his philosophical way of seeing things.
The spiritual nature of a loving friend.:hmm: Just my own opinion of course.
I am sorry that I had to make a new thread, it's a wonderful ideal,Brian and I cannot hard as I've tried get it to download...this was all I could think to do.

on this site the server is slow sometimes

So you just have to wait a while for it to start working again properly

It can take either a couple days, a few hours, or a matter of minutes.

I think it depends on when he wrote the book. There might be a hint of anger if he wrote it in the fall of 74

KPM

I think how the book would have been written would be dependent on when in his life he wrote it.
If he had lived to 80-the book would have been much different than if he wrote it at 25-or 35 etc......
At 80 his opinion of Parker, Priscilla, or the MM would hardly be the same as at age 25-age usually brings a modem of wisdom so reflection of ones life and the people in it at 80 can strip away the gloss and flash-and get down to true inner thoughts.
But how he would detail his true inner thougths on all these people and situations is just a guess.
I'll say this-everyone else has had a shot at Elvis and his flaws/problems/lifestyle-so I can not see Elvis being much different on his thoughts on them.
If Elvis during his life ever questioned Parker, (or the others) in his mind-I think it would come out in the book.

Thank you Deb,
I appreciate a thumbs up now and then.. and I was trying to post of Brians thread but was just worn out when it refused to download, now it will show up 4 or 5 unknown places? :'( ooops!
To the other poster, about Elvis being possibly angry at a point in life when he had more than the right to be, I doubt he would have taken it to pen and paper. He was one of those tell people off and wad the paper up and toss it in a waste basket or fireplace. They say that is actually helpful to relieve anger. I have not found that to be true. But have said thing I wish I had never said.

I personally don't believe Elvis would have written a personal book! He was a very private man, He had his inner circle of friends who he trusted, he probably shared to much with these guys and lived to regret it.

No, Elvis kept his personal opinions to himself, he even made a statement to that effect in 1972 when asked about the Vietnam war. Elvis was quite conservative in his opinions, the only book I could see Elvis publishing is something close to his heart e.g. Philosophy, Christian Faith, Gospel or Music. Just my opinion.

I don't think so either but you never know

I also wonder what Elvis would've really thought about Elvis and Me and Revelations of the Memphis mafia.
I doubt he would've liked those books because of him not liking Elvis what Happened and EWH was a lot tamer in my opinion.
But a lot of fans did actually like Revelations.

If Elvis would have thinking of writing a book - it would be very interesting. We all know his life only of second hand and I have my doubts that all facts are correct.
To know his personal view of his life and carrier should be amazing.
But I don't believe he would write about his inner thoughts and feelings. Maybe more about his passion for Gospel, Religions, his youthness, sharing nice stories by his fans, perhaps also about his friends and his buddy-bodyguards. But never in a way that will hurt their feelings - like they did it to him.

If Elvis had lived through 'Elvis What Happened' I believe he would have changed the way he lived. I would like to think he would have forgiven Red for his transgression, although I doubt it because Elvis was a private man and to have gone public in such a way would have been the ultimate betrayal in Elvis' eyes.

I believe that Elvis would have been extremely hurt by EWH and the guys around him would have seen that and any further books of an open and honest nature wouldn't have been written until he passed away. I could see Priscilla still writing a book when Elvis was alive because that is just the way she is :hmm:

hypothetically though if Revelations of the Memphis did come out and Elvis read it.
I realize most of the books wouldn't of actually came out if he were alive.

I don't think he would've liked Priscilla talking about those private things it probably would've strained their relationship.

Agreed, Priscilla could have used it as a bargaining chip, which isn't completely beyond the realms of possibility as she wouldn't have been able to use the name Presley to trade on, Priscilla's life would have been completely different!

I could still see Priscilla using the Presley name to get roles on Dallas, The Naked Gun and modeling jobs.

A lot of ex-wives continue to use their married names and they also use it for business purposes.
Elvis may not of liked that but what was he going to do.

Priscilla however made millions off of Elvis estate that would've never had happened if Elvis were alive.

I also want to think Elvis would have not held the book against Red and forgiven him-but if he had forgiven him, I wonder if the relationship would have been the same-I'm sure Elvis would have been much more hesitant to let Red or the other 2 to get as close as they had been. No one wants to get burnt twice including Elvis I suppose.

I think Elvis would have forgiven Red being that their friendship started back in high school but I'm not so sure about Sonny and Dave.
