View Full Version : Is it true that Elvis struggled with recording Can’t Help Falling in Love?

There is this website that sells rare Elvis outtakes, and the guy on there said that Elvis did over 40 takes of the song, and he got upset while doing it, etc.

Did Elvis really have that much trouble with that song, or is that guy just trying to get people to buy his stuff?

Here’s the website. He says he has hours of rare Elvis recordings. Is it a rip off?

There are 29 known outtakes for CHFIL, which include the movie version as well.

Elvis is not struggling; he is perfecting as the takes go by.

These recordings all are available on imports.

I suggest not to order anything on particular sites.

Absolutely right Deb!!! (y)

One of the more recent FTD's, 50,000,000 ELVIS FANS CAN'T BE WRONG (ELVIS GOLD RECORDS VOL. 2) has all 18 takes of I NEED YOUR LOVE TONIGHT, all 9 takes of A FOOL SUCH AS I and all 24 takes of I GOT STUNG. While they can be tedious to listen to all at one time, it is fascinating to listen to these recording sessions to hear just how much of a perfectionist Elvis was with his music. For me, there were plenty of takes that I heard while listening to these sessions that could have been just fine for the master recording (in my opinion), but obviously Elvis heard something he didn't like and continued to perfect the songs until he was satisfied with them.

TCB!

What on earth are you on about this time?!

The guy asked for a list of where to get the outtakes of CHFIL; I provided it.

Quite simple, really.

Pointless, indeed.

And since you obviously missed my post above:

It wasn't so crazy for Elvis to try some takes until reaching the point of eventual satisfaction. I don't agree with musicians who would have you shot if you need to warm up, but.. there are those who feel you'd be have to be thrown in the arctic sea unexpectedly at night and still be able to deliver a master take - it's very hard!

Elvis wasn't a machine - do you think athletes get out of bed and run their sprint without warming up?

It is also a factor explaining the up-and-down level of some live shows.

Also, the only reason I was asking is because that website I heard it from seems like a rip off.

The guy wants you to pay 10 dollars, just for him to tell you where to find the “rare” recordings.

He doesn’t actually sell them to you, he only tells you where to find them, then you have to pay again just to hear them.

Also, Thanks Getlo for telling me where to find them! :)

I personally think Elvis is the Best Singer in the World! :)

It doesn’t matter if he did 100 takes of a song, his outtakes are better than other peoples master takes!

I also like most of his recordings undubbed, because sometimes they added to much music and you couldn’t hear his voice as much.

Whilst I agree with the view that Elvis was perfecting the song he did struggle with the breathing during some of the longer notes. He even said as much during the session (I can't hold a note worth a ****). However if was not that he couldn't do it - just that he needed to practise how to do it.

i doubt very much that elvis presley struggled with ANY song which he sung.

I know at one point Elvis makes fun of his ability to "hold a note" or something to that affect.
I agree he is just working to get the song to where he feels his performance is at the level he wants. I would not call it struggling-but working at improving and as has been pointed out-perfecting his performance.

Actually, there are many that he struggled with, for various reasons.

Dozens of outtakes confirm this.

It depends on what is considered a struggle, but I agree with you on this baby. After all Elvis was human too and would love a challenge every now and then, to find out if he could grow as a singer and push the boundaries.
