for years i have bin criticised for being an ELVIS,fan and for being limited because he is all i listen, watch, read or even care about for me its 24/7 and has bin , when you have seen this guy in the flesh 38 times and folllowed his may tour of 77 and being 17 at the time i was captivated and his spirit never ceased from me , so its hard to explain to others why i can't think of a day without him on my cd deck or my library etc.. what about you do you feel limited?

Don`t think that being an Elvis fan ever made me feel "limited", although it has sometimes lead to other people suggesting to me that I was, usually people who are followers of whatever is "cool" at the time or who buy music on the strength of music magazines etc. If anything, being an Elvis fan lead me to more different types of music than I would ever have come across otherwise...from gospel to country and bluegrass...in a lot of ways being an Elvis fan has given me a much broader appreciation of a lot of different music styles....and much more.
At the end of the day most people have their own little obsessions, whether it`s stamp-collecting or trainspotting..or whatever. Don`t worry about anyone giving you a hard time over it..... you chose well!!(y)(y)(y)(y)

I agree. It doesn't really matter to me what others think about me being
an Elvis fan. I know what I like and I like Elvis' music, films tv specials and
all to the other areas of being an Elvis fan. I feel sorry for those people who
refuse to allow themselves to experience Elvis because they thing others
will criticize them. They are missing out!:D:D:D:D:D:D

There is no limit for me, I love other kinds of music, plenty really. Elvis is and always will be #One for me, no one comes close. My family doesn't make fun of me, my little nephews and nieces like Elvis.

The limit comes when other folks have not heard the man "Elvis Presley" they are limiting their selves IMO.

If Elvis is all you ever listen to, then yes, you are limited. Very much so.

There is a rich history of music out there, both before and after Elvis, and you are missing out on a lot.

You can't fully understand Elvis and his musicianship without exploring the music which influenced him: early country, blues, pop, spirituals etc.

You can't understand his influence and accomplishments without exploring those who came after him: The Beatles, The Stones, the Elvis-types of the 50s, even 60s folk to a lesser extent.

You can't undertand why his music is timeless without exploring (to a limited extent) today's music, even the Top 40 crap.

You can't understand rock'n'roll or the 50s unless you explore what it gave rise to: the psychedelic 60s.

Or what it replaced: the swing and Big Bands of the 40s and early 50s.

You can't understand variety unless you listen to something or someone else.

You can't understand music itself unless you explore beyond Elvis.

I don't feel limited at all being an Elvis-Fan. Through Elvis' music I found lots of nice music I otherwise wouldn't even have recognized. I'd never have bought an Arthur Crudup-CD without being an Elvis-Fan and I'd never come across Country music e.g.

For Elvis-Fans my other musical interests might be quite strange. I also like digital hardcore an when 11 years ago Alec Empire came out with "you ain't nothing" I could proudly tell my "Alec-Empire/Atarie Teenage Riot"-friends, that it was an Elvis song and Elvis videos that Alec used. Their comment was:"He must be as strange as you are....:D"

I like a wide variety of music, I don't limit myself to just Elvis because I would ultimately dilute what effect he has on me. Variety is the spice of life. When I listen to a an Elvis record I haven't heard for some time it can spark a memory or reaction that ignites the passion I felt when I first became a fan.

My taste in music is so varied that it is hard to define a category e.g.

Clasical, Kiss, Aerosmith, Guns & Roses, Rolling Stones, The Beatles  U2, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Oasis, Blur, Queen, Tom Jones, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Nat King Cole, The Ting Tings, Duffy, The Stereophonics, Killing Joke, Abba, B52's, Brian Adams, Cold Play, The Verve, Manic Street Preachers, Travis, The Silencers, Nirvana, Foo Fighters, Jamiroquai, The Police, Duran Duran, Talking Heads, The Smiths, David Bowie, The Stone Roses, The Clash, Madness, Richard Marx, Michael Jackson, Green Day, Beyoncé Knowles, The Killers, Snow Patrol, Maroon 5, Kings Of Leon

and so on.... I'm sure I could add at least another 50 to that list  however I always come back to Elvis

For years I have endured limitless teasing and criticism about my love for Elvis. It seems like when you say you love Elvis, people feel they can say whatever they want and you are supposed to take it. So I have made my feelings about Elvis my secret shared only with my Elvis friends. It's a special world for me I know longer care to share with just anyone.

I do regret that my family never understood. Most didn't try. It always seemed to be a him or me choice. My Mother would cry and say I loved Elvis more than her. Times I went to Memphis was a nightmare because the fighting would start 1 week before and last for weeks after. One thing that made me happy was I found out years after my Grandmother passed away that she bought Priscilla's book and read it. My sister told me she was trying to understand why I loved him so much. I wished she would have asked me, there was so much more I could have showed her.

If Elvis is what you want to listen to, you do it. You are not harming anyone. You are not doing drugs or drinking, they should be grateful that's what you do. Me, I keep Elvis in my heart and in my head. He'll never go away, whether anyone likes it or not.

What does freak me out the most is when people say Elvis is the only thing they even read about! Beyond music, no need to guess what they are missing.

Ask lvs2day not me.

Anyhow, no disrespect to lvs2day, I think its wonderful you get touch by Elvis in that way after seeing the man live.

But to just close your mind to anything but Elvis its not the way to go at all, if there is a lesson I've learn from Elvis the musician, is an ever growing interest in all kinds of music. That, as Getlo well put it, won't take away from your love and interest on Elvis but totally the other way.

Ok maybe not everybody got to be interested in music at all, so one or two artists will do for them, but when you refer also to your readings and in fact about not caring about anything else, I must tell it like it is: there is something wrong and harmful to your self on that attitude, lvs2day.

I was just following your train of thought, the: "its unbelievable" part on your post, which I do completely agree.

I listen to Chuck Berry, Dean Martin, Beatles, Moody Blues, Roy Orbison, Johnny Cash, Dave Mathews, actually I listen to a lot of varied music.
My vinyl collection is about 3000 albums and singles and my cd collection is pretty large also.
Elvis is the greatest singer I have ever heard IMO-but many other people have great voices and styles.

To be an Elvis Fans sometimes give you a lot of teasing or eyes-rolling. But I don't care.
From my earliest youthoot I love music - but Elvis's songs give me something special.
No matter in what kind of mood I am - happy, sad, thinkfull - I will always find a song which comforted me. He put so much of himself in a song and that's the magic of Elvis.

I'm proud to be an Elvis-fan, because we don't let us lead by people that are short minded or place someone in a "box" just because some one is different, but because we are loyal and take some one for what or who he is. And ofcourse because we're not blinded by critics but see Elvis as he was: A great entertainer and loving, caring and great human being with a huge carisma.
