I know this has been discussed before and i know Leroy is the jumspuit master in here, but i just wanted you to know that i received this message from Gene Doucette - the designer of The Mexican Sundial Suit:

"I designed the Sundial. I like different types of native art and It
always appealed to me.

There was only one made.

I did use Austrian stones to enhance the embroidery.

As I remember, the embroidery held up beautifully but the suit itself was
let out due to his weight gain.

The reason for the difference in buttons is very simple. At some point
one of the buttons came off the suit. It was either not replaced by
whoever was maintaining the suits, or the same button was removed on the
other sleeve so that they would match. That is why in some photos there
are three and in some only two.

Embroidery Design"

So once and for all: Only one and not 2 Mexican Sundial Suits were made for Elvis.

I came to that conclusion when the mystery of about the 3 and 2 buttons was solved.
The way there wasn't any design on the upper sides meant they could have let it out in 1977.

Thanks so much for posting and putting an end to the debate.

Yes, only one suit was made but some thinks and may still think even though the write up you receive from Gene that two suits was made. I know that one suit was made. Sometime after 1973, Elvis only had one of each suit made from that point on. The only one that has the exception to that rule is the Flame suit. That is the only suit had that two of it made. The flames on the legs was completely different from each other. A lady who was at the Savannah show in 1977 got a button from the suit when it came off during the performance also got some of the stones. So that point the suit was coming apart and had to be done up again for the next shows.

I don't think that story about the Savannah-woman is right. I have heard diffenrent versions of that story before. Can you prove it?

Yes I can and she can as well. She will show you the button and the stones from the suit as well. She has the ticket stubs where her and family and friends went. Also about 50 photos from that show that she and her best friend took. Plus 8mm film of 5 mins of the show too and part of the film shows her picking up something. She said that it was the button she picked up. Can't get no better proof than that can you. I saw her today as a matter of fact. Be more than happy to introduce you to her and she will show the items to you. But she isn't selling them at no price. She is passing them to her daughter who is also a Elvis fan.
