I hate to be the one to inform anyone of things they might not know about Elvis, but it is a thread and an Elvis topic...so I will spit out what little I know and see if everyone else knows already.
He was fighting Glaucoma in the one eye, and his ophalmologist said it would eventually affect the other eye as well.
It is hard to believe that the KING as sexy as he was, really wasn't a very sexual person. He would rather talk to you, lay with you, make love to a woman was just not one of his important details. Leaving some to think he might have been impotent later in years, say 1975-77. Or by choice?
He also had gray hair. Which can be verified by Larry geller or patty perry if she did his hair at that time, unsure?

I'm sure most people on here have heard those stories before.
Elvis having Glaucoma in his eye is even mentioned on the EPE site elvis.com in the Elvis bio section.

Agreed, but one never knows which fan does not know these things.. for example here is a stretch.. did you know that Elvis inhaled a loose crown?
It went into his lung...not down his throat! This is not good, he had to have a quick small inscision at the hospital to get it out!
I think its impossible for anyone to know everything there is to know about another human.
We can know a million things-but perhaps a million more are a mystery.
My wife knows me like a book after 36 years-yet she does not know it all.:D

I had read about the glaucoma before and I also have read about his hair
being gray. I saw 3 strands of what was told to me was his hair that a
friend of mine claimed to have plucked from the pillow of the bed in a
hotel room right after he had left. The roots of these stands were gray. I believe that Charlie Hodge said that he touched up the gray roots after
Elvis died. So, I don't think these two things are not commonly known.
I also have heard some of his girlfriends say that Elvis just liked to spend time
with them. But, for you to say that he was not a very sexual person and
to suggest impotency, how would you know this?:doh::doh::doh:

It was Larry Geller who touched up the grey when Elvis died. You are right, I do not have a definate knowledge of Elvis being imotent at 40-42 personally, but I have a friend who would know. Rats! I guess I have to bring her into it then? Also medically speaking, they didn't have viagra then..LOL and I have read many reports that Elvis would sleep with a girl but never make love to her.. (which I know is not a given fact)

Well impotency can be total-and it can be occasional. Every man now or then has a problem. Sometimes its mental, sometimes its physical and sometimes a combination of both. How anyone could know the full truth on this and how it was with Elvis is probably not realistic. IMO
But I have read he had some problem in the last couple of years.

True. Being an RN and a woman married once or twice I know you speak the truth..LOL but we can assume the medication he took, also caused problems.. am I the only one who read somewhere that he was trying to cover up the fact he became diabetic?

I do not recall that about being a diabetic.
In the book "Elvis Up Close" a panel of doctors went over his medical problems but I do not recall that being mentioned.
I recall an ulcer being mentioned, arthtitis of the neck and spine, pluerisy, among a few things I had not heard.....I'd have to reread it to remember all they talked about.

It was in an article someone had written where they said a list of stars were diabetic and Elvis was one of the one's that was mentioned.
The article was even posted on the Elvis Information Network a few years back.
The person that wrote the article where he mentioned Elvis was diabetic provided no sources or anything.
If Elvis was really diabetic I figure one of the Memphis Mafia guys or Dr.Nick would've mentioned it by now.

There are about 4 things that I now know about Elvis that I didn't until recently.
I bet a lot of fans still haven't heard about these things.
1. Johnny Cash wrote the song Get Rythm specifically for Elvis but because his contract had recently been sold to RCA Sam Phillips wouldn't let Elvis take the song with him and the song just ended up being a B-side to Cash's hit song ''I walk the Line''.
That's a shame because I think the song is a good rockabilly story song that probably would've been a hit and would've been a great song for Elvis' early career. When I first heard this story I was fascinated.
2. In Sonny West's 2007 book ''Still Taking care of Business'' he mentions that Don Siegel was so impressed with Elvis' performance in Flaming Star that several years later Mr.Siegel came backstage in Vegas to personally offer the role of Dirty Harry to Elvis but he had to decline because of his concert schedule.
When Elvis fans say which roles they wish Elvis had been offered one movie role that frequently comes up is Dirty Harry so it's interesting to me that Elvis was actually offered the role of Dirty Harry.
I must say i'm glad Clint Eastwood ended up with the role because it was a career defining one for him and I couldn't see anyone else doing it.
3. I did not know this until recently that Elvis was offered a role in a Japanese movie in 1966.
4. Barbara Streisand confirms the story about Elvis painting her toenails in Vegas on the A Star is Born DVD commentary.
When I first heard this story a few years ago I thought it was just some made up B.S.
I know a lot of fans felt the same but Streisand says it actually happened.
I was shocked.

This is all pretty common knowledge. All one has to do is watch several documentary DVDs and you'll find the answers.
As far as Elvis rather laying in bed with a woman than making love to her in the later years? I'd believe that one because I have also read (in "Revelations From The Memphis Mafia") that he had become impotent in the lsat couple of years. Even when he was with Linda Thompson (who, as we all know was a knockout beauty of a lady), she has said that he didn't even have intercourse with her much at all. to quote her: "Maybe once a year".
Agreed, but one never knows which fan does not know these things.. for example here is a stretch.. did you know that Elvis inhaled a loose crown?
It went into his lung...not down his throat! This is not good, he had to have a quick small inscision at the hospital to get it out!
Yes, this was during the filming of "Jailhouse Rock" and I believe that it was during the dance sequence that he helped choreograph.
I had read about the glaucoma before and I also have read about his hair

There has never been any evidence that Elvis was ever a full diabetic - he could've been a borderline diabetic, though, due to his eating habits I'm sure.

I'm sure Sonny believes this, as Elvis would have said something when the movie came out.
I do not believe it is true, however.
Siegel was an astute director, and always picked his lead actors judiciously. But Elvis as Harry Callaghan? Come on!
I'm sure this was just a bit of exageration on Elvis' part.

I think it could be true and here is why
I have learned about Dirty Harry that Frank Sinatra was the first choice for the role and he was all set but he hurt his hand before shooting was to begin and pulled out.
John Wayne was offered the role but turned it down the role then passed on to several actors Steve Mcqueen, Henry Fonda, Robert Mitchum and Paul Newman.
Everybody and their mother was offered the role of Dirty Harry before Eastwood was.
Don Siegel having worked with Elvis before on Flaming Star and being happy with his performance he could've very well offered him the role at one point.
Like I said to me nobody could've done it better than Eastwood and if he couldn't of done it Steve Mcqueen would've been my second choice, but I could see Elvis as Dirty Harry more than Henry Fonda, Paul Newman, Frank Sinatra and John Wayne.

Wasn't testosterone one of the daily injections Dr Nick gave to Elvis?
You can assume his health, pills etc... had a lot to do with a decline in sexual activity.
Also, maybe it's the pressure of (as he said) 'Living up to the Image'.
He knew he was supposed to be the ultimate Sex symbol, and his insecurities about not performing upto womens expectations, would be very difficult to live with.

Thats ok ;) you're only saying what you read. No probs. (y) I can't remember where I saw it, but it was Larry talking and he said that he and Charlie had gone into the room where Elvis was lying (after Vernon had asked Larry to do Elvis's hair for the viewing at Graceland.) then one of the morticians apparently pulled back the sheet that was covering Elvis and revealed the autopsy scars and Charlie shouted at them to cover Elvis back up.
And it was then Larry realised elvis had some grey re-growth as they hadnt been on tour and therefore Elvis hadnt had his hair dyed recently, and he wasnt prepared for it. So Larry asked a woman if she had any mascara in her handbag (which she did) and he used that to touch up the roots.
Thats Larry's account of it anyway. I tend to believe him more than if Charlie said it, as if they were both there it would make more sense for Larry to be doing it.(y)

You know what I don't get about that story May, is why hadn't Elvis had his roots done, knowing he was going on tour?
It seems unbelieavable that he would walk out onto a stage with 1/2 inch of re-growth of hair and sideburns.
I do wonder if this is a story Larry is 'enlarging' upon to make his own involvement more important
I think a lot of the MM exaggerate their importance in Elvis's life, so it wouldnt surprise me if Larry did this too.
Although, I dont know why, I tend to believe Larry. He always struck me as a little on the odd side (bless him) but I think I felt a bit sorry for him too, because he wasnt well-liked by the MM (apparently). I always feel for the "under-dog" hahaha
Who knows about his roots not being done. Perhaps he was due to have them done on the morning of the tour day? Could be a million reasons, I suppose. Maybe he just forgot, as he wasnt in a particularly good 'place' healthwise. Or maybe Larry is just making it up. We'll never know I guess.

Thanks, May. I cannot recall just where I read or heard that it was Charlie;
but, either way, we all did know that Elvis' hair was gray. That was the point
I was trying to make. :D:D:D:D:D:D

Maybe that was one of the things he was going to do at the last minute.:D:D
I posted a thread about this some time ago but barely got any responses
This is a story about Elvis I had never heard before until recently.
Apparently singer Ray Dorset of the band Mungo Jerry wrote a song for Elvis.
scroll down a little to read the story

It was, in fact, Larry Geller who did Elvis's hair and touched up the roots - which were (IIRC from watching "The Last 24 Hours" DVD) about an inch thick with grey hair. He used a black mascara pen to touch up the roots. The lady at the mortuary/funeral home luckily had a black mascara pen because he had forgotten his dyes to bring with him because he didn't think he'd need them. And, I also remember watching where he said that the mortician did, in fact, pull back the sheet covering the body and accidentally showed them the autopsy V-incision across his chest and Larry freaked out and said, "What the **** are you doing?!?!?" and the morticians quickly covered the body back up.
I think a lot of the MM exaggerate their importance in Elvis's life, so it wouldnt surprise me if Larry did this too.
Although, I don't know why, I tend to believe Larry. He always struck me as a little on the odd side (bless him) but I think I felt a bit sorry for him too, because he wasn't well-liked by the MM (apparently). I always feel for the "under-dog" hahaha
Who knows about his roots not being done. Perhaps he was due to have them done on the morning of the tour day? Could be a million reasons, I suppose. Maybe he just forgot, as he wasnt in a particularly good 'place' health wise. Or maybe Larry is just making it up. We'll never know I guess.
I've always found it odd as to why Elvis didn't have his hair dyed before the 'tour that never was' - but I'm guessing that they were going to dye his hair sometime that day before they left for the tour but - we all know what happened. :'(:'(
I see an interview of Kathy and she said that Elvis had a diabetic, and I believe in Her.
Of course is My Opinion;).
I advice to all of you to see this interview!
Is a Wonderful Interview!
I respect your opinion but I have to strongly disagree here. Kathy is also the person (as well as Larry Geller and Charlie Hodge - God rest his soul) - who have vehemently believed that Elvis had bone cancer.
Sorry, but I wouldn't put much stock into what Kathy Westmoreland says. She was put to the test on the Larry King show a few years ago by several of the members of the Memphis Mafia (including Lacker, Fike and Schilling) and she was basically told to stop lying.
If Elvis had had any form of cancer, it would've shown up at the autopsy.
Thanks, Diane. I was sure that I had heard it was Charlie; but, not sure
enough to argue the point. I can't recall where I heard or read this either.
I just remember it as being Charlie.:D:D:D:D
It was Larry who re-did Elvis's hair and covered up the grey roots - not Charlie - but Charlie was in the room with the body when Larry re-touched Elvis's hair.

No, according to Priscilla's book/biography, "Elvis & Me", he had suffered an allergic reaction to penicillin he was taking for a bad cold that he was suffering from (that begs the question: "Why would he go meet the President of the U.S. if he - Elvis - was suffering from a cold?). The 'chocolate' thing must've gotten started because of the parody movie, "Elvis Meets Nixon" from 1997.

If there were any evidence whatsoever of cancer in Elvis's body, it would have shown up in the autopsy results. It's that simple. It's not rocket science.
According to her, Elvis apparently told Kathy sometime in 1970 that he had a "cancer-like" condition but my thinking is that he only used this as an excuse to hide the ever-increasing abuse of the drugs he was taking.

Honey, I have to say this even if no one believes a word of it.. there are two seperate results of the autopsy report, and the family blocked some of it..also there is the fact that medicine was not as advanced as it is today...and they could have missed a lot.
Doesn't anyone ever wonder why the records are sealed? Why conflicting stories from professionals in forensic medicine?
No, it's not rocket science, but I could look at him, as many could, and see there was something much worse than what we knew for sure, and more reasons for pain than we were told. Elvis wasn't a cry baby, he was sweet and humble, and he did the best he could until the very end.

Well, belive it or not, chocolate contains caffiene and caffiene is a derivitive of codiene and the fact his hair was not colored before hand, is a very interesting mishap!
It is almost as if Larry knew there would be no concert, and no need for the immediate job. Hair dressers do not like an instant fix, it's done only when MUST Do situation, as the newly dyed hair, hold an odor(back then) and the hair doesn't behave as well as the pro's like.

This whole cancer thing that Kathy Westmoreland tells over and over again might be the biggest bunch of B.S. ever told in the Elvis world.
If Elvis really did have cancer he would've told everyone around him not just Kathy or Kathy and Larry Gellar yet nobody else ever mentions anything about it. why? Because he didn't have bone cancer
Dr.Nick mentions several ailments that Elvis had but he never mentions bone cancer. why? because Elvis didn't have bone cancer.
Being that Elvis was a big star the media would've found out that he had bone cancer and it would've been in the newspapers and we would've heard about it back then. Yet the media never reported Elvis had bone cancer. why?
because he didn't have bone cancer.
Elvis was overweight in the mid 70's and at the end of his life if he had bone cancer he would've been really thin as the disease took it's toll so why was Elvis overweight at the end of his life? because he didn't have bone cancer.
I really wish Kathy Westmoreland would've stop saying Elvis had bone cancer when it's obvious he didn't and even if Elvis told her it was still quite clear from the subsequent years they worked together that he did not have bone cancer yet Kathy continues to peddle this story and why I don't know.
I bet Kathy really knows it isn't true but anyway this thread is about things we don't know about Elvis and we've all heard the bogus cancer story many times.

Thank you, Brian. I agree with every word - especially what I have bolded.
The fact is, truly, bone cancer patients absolutely do not gain weight such as Elvis Presley did in his final years! They basically waste away to nothing but a shell of their former self - trust me, I know this because I painfully and sadly watched my dear Grandfather on my Mother's side of my family suffer with it for four years before he passed away in 1991. You would like for me to prove it? Ok....she was on the U.S. talk show "Larry King Live" along with Lacker and Fike and Schilling and was told by all three men that Elvis did not have bone cancer - and she still vehemently told them that he did, in fact, have it and, to my recollection, Marty Lacker and all three of them told her "Stop your lies, Kathy! It's not true!" (or words to that effect).
If I can locate the transcript from the show, I'll post it here.....
FOUND IT!
KING: We're back. This is like old home week, Marty Lacker knows my father-in-law, Carl Anchorman (ph), worked with him on producing records. Kathy Westmoreland knows my mother-in-law, Gerri, worked with her, right?
WESTMORELAND: Wonderful person.
KING: You have thoughts about Elvis' passing?
WESTMORELAND: Yes, I do, well, because of what he told me and what doctors who saw him while I was with him told me...
KING: Which is?
WESTMORELAND: Which is -- when I first met him, he told me that he knew exactly how much time he had, that he thought he was going to die at the age of 42, close to the age of his mother, her -- it was in her family, her father, grandfather, her whole family is not -- they were born with a heart that was twice the size on one side as it was on the other, and he also told me that he had bone cancer.
LACKER: He didn't have bone cancer.
WESTMORELAND: And he...
UNIDENTIFIED MALE: He didn't have bone cancer.
KING: He didn't?
LACKER: No, he didn't have bone cancer. Let me tell you where that came from. After Elvis died, there was a lot of stuff being leaked out of Graceland. And Elvis' father asked Billy Smith to tell a couple of the guys that Elvis had cancer to see if it came out. And that's what happened. And I believe that's where Kathy...
KING: But she said Elvis told her he had it.
WESTMORELAND: He told me when I first met him.
LACKER: Elvis had a good imagination, Kathy. There ya go....Kathy got 'outed" for her lies right there on national television, so to speak.
Marty is correct when he says that the cancer rumor got started after Elvis died. Vernon Presley did, in fact, tell Billy Smith that Elvis had cancer to see if it would leak out so that Vernon could somehow find out what killed Elvis (this was before the autopsy report wasn't completely finished and sealed from the public's view).
I'll say this again from my own personal experience of watching my grandfather die from this horrible disease: people with bone cancer do not gain as much weight as Elvis did in his final years - they waste away to absolutely nothing. It was absolutely heartbreaking to watch him slip away like that - but it was a blessing when he passed because I knew in my heart that he (my grandfather) was no longer in pain and was in a better place.
I think I understand what elvislady means. We arent saying Lamar, Marty and Jerry didnt do all that. But just because they did, what makes three people right and one person wrong?
On the surface, yes, if its three against one, you would tend to lean towards believing the majority. But it doesnt necessarily mean the three of THEM are being honest.
To be honest, Im not bothered one way or another about the whole true/false cancer story, and wouldnt have a clue who to believe, but no one can prove Kathy was lying, just from a piece of film footage surely

The fact is that it does bother me when lies are spread about Elvis - especially vicious and untrue rumors/lies like the false cancer story.
I'll say it iagain: Elvis did not have bone cancer. If he had, he would've been onstange performing as a very, very, very thin man - almost skeleton-like - as the disease took it's toll on his body.
Either way, I'm out of this discussion.

"Larry King Live" is a nationally syndicated talk show which is shown to millions all over the world. I was watching the show the night (i actually recorded it) and I was so glad to see Kathy finally be 'put in her place' and told that she was lying about the cancer story.
The truth is that the ball really got started rolling about the cancer story when Vernon asked Billy Smith (I'm not sure if MissyM can back me up on this but the fact is, I'd choose to believe the people who were around Elvis most every single day than someone who only saw him during the tours.

I looked it up, she was with him in the early 70's, if he told her he had it then, he would have died much earlier. bone cancer takes people faster than 5-7 years. he would have had chemo and wasted away to nothing in about 1-2 years. the progress of bone cancer supports the MM words, not hers. I like the women but medical facts disprove her story alone

You can have your opinion, but Kathy's view on Elvis was correct - at least as far as singing is concerned. Few have accurately described and explained what there is to like about his vocals during the last period of his life. Anyone should have to admit she is sincere concerning the artistic side of the deal.
If Elvis didn't have bone cancer, he might have been forced to believe so. It could be another painful condition such as arthritis led him to believe it.
Kathy is not a liar like those who claim Elvis is still alive or their father - this is something different! At least she stayed with him 'til the end and didn't write derogatory articles or books.

This thread has got way off topic and it got that way real quick.
No one besides me and a couple of others even attempted to answer the topic in this thread.
I bet a lot of fans haven't heard about this
1. Marty Lacker on the Aek ng has said Larry Gellar tried to talk Elvis into starting his own religion in the mid 60's and Gellar would've been the one going around signing people up to join.
2. It has been rumored for years that Elvis rehearsed the song ''We Had it all'' at Stax but couldn't get a satisfactory take of it.
Marty Lacker said that he brought a Dobie Gray LP to the session with the song ''We had it all'' on it Elvis loved the song and listened to it about 30 times in a row praising the song as being beautiful. Everybody in the studio thought he was going to record it only they were surprised when Elvis said he couldn't record the song because people would think he was singing about Priscilla.
David Briggs and Norman Putnam who owned the publishing on the song were disappointed.

I feel the only time anyone should know as much as they can about someone's personal life is when they hope to marry that person....for safety sake if nothing else - but the rest of the world has no need to know it all...even about their favorite actor/performer etc. Their image is what they present and that should be enough.

Well said, honey   You don't say much, when you do, it's always so very good to read what you say. :D (y)
We all just need a "Little More Love" if some people had this, they wouldn't feel the need to run Elvis down, they would be fulfilled, it's sad for them (really); or, as Elvis said: "TLC". "Tender Loving Care" it really does make the difference.
Elvis' life should be private, everything special is, and Elvis was, and unless people knew him, they couldn't possibly have known. :king:
;) AMEN, Amen and Amen. "Just a little more love"

IMO I don't understand the need to delve into Elvis' private life, Elvis had a right to just breathe and be himself off-stage. Regardless of his status when it comes down to it, he was a human being just like the rest of us and was entitled to keep his private life private. Elvis gave so much to his fans and he gave it with love, so I show my love for him by respecting his private life and leaving it as his and his alone.

Bill Burk tells that story in his book 'Early Elvis-The Tupelo years'. Magdalene Morgan didn't even know the marriage license existed untill the 90's.

Hi
Thanks for all your threads, I just wanted to ask a question, I do not know where I heard it? be it a rumour? a lie made up by aliens, or whoever?? Didn't Elvis not like to be intimate with woman often, because he use to be in pain after? and he would bleed? Maybe needed to be circumcised?
I don't know? as I said I think I read it somewhere?? Has anyone else heard this??
Also the kind of medication Elvis was on would have caused impotence, add to that depression, self image, and all that other stuff, know wonder Elvis didn't feel amarous very often, also he had woman throwing themselves at him, maybe he got a bit bored of that? A bit like a kid who eats to many chocolate bar's, at some point you gonna get sick of it.
Anyway I like this thread, so what if I've heard it before, at least it's got people talking, be it positive, sarcastic, or non descript!!!

I wouldn't say everyone that knew him does.
For me it really depends on who and what we are talking about, but that lady was definately exagerrating Elvis wasn't a one woman guy and wouldn't of been ready to settle down.
He was only 13 at the time so maybe she didn't know that about him but it's well know that Elvis dated a lot of woman and was a bachelor for most of his life.
