Feds award nearly $1M for Elvis Presley corridor

The federal government has awarded a $975,312 Streetscape Enhancement Grant to the city of Memphis for improvements to the Elvis Presley Boulevard Corridor.

The city gave a local match of $243,828 for a total of $1.2 million worth of improvements along Elvis Presley Boulevard from Shelby Drive to Interstate 55.

The money will be used for street re-construction, utility relocation and upgrades, and pedestrian enhancements, which will beautify the gateway to the Whitehaven area.

“These enhancements will be seen by millions of tourists who come to our city each year to visit Graceland,” Mayor Pro Tem Myron Lowery said in a statement. “In addition, they will enhance the quality of life for the wonderful citizens who live in the Whitehaven community.”

This is the first phase of the city’s efforts to enhance the Elvis Presley Boulevard Corridor.

Future phases of the project will extend north of Winchester Road to I-55 and south of Craft Road to Shelby Drive

I am glad that Memphis is doing this. They really need to keep that area up. It is a big

Considering the current situation with Sillerman and his plans for the Graceland renovations being put on the back burner for now, this is certainly good news! At least some renovations and upgrades will be taking place around Graceland to help update and improve the area for the fans!!! (y)
