I was reading on the "Child Bride" thread about Elvis JR. and got to thinking about all the other people who claim to be Elvis' love children. I noticed a few of them were allegedly concieved when their mothers were teenagers and Elvis was in Germany. That got me thinking...
I know this is going to be contraversial but let's just pretend that Elvis and Priscilla did make love in Germany. What do you think would have happened if she got pregnant? Would she keep it? Would they tell anybody? Would they get married? Would he stay with her?

I think had that happened it would've caused the biggest scandal for an entertainer in the history of world.
Elvis career would've been dead and he'd never be able to recover from it.
It's hard to say what would've happened with the baby, but I would guess it would've either been given up for adoption or Priscilla's parents would raise it.
I don't see them getting married in that situation.
They might've tried to keep it quiet but the media always has a way of finding out things like that.

Perhaps-but then again Elvis seemed to have a way of broaching controversy and recovering.
Many said the Beatles were dead when John said they were more popular than Jesus-KISS OF DEATH said many and it indeed slowed their popularity in the US but they still survived until their breakup and are still hugely popular today.
Jerry Lee in fact still had a successful career even in England after the controversy died.
I think this may have slowed Elvis down but if the others survived their crisis moments I am sure Elvis would have also.

This would've been much worse than the John Lennon Beatle comment
Lennon just made a stupid comment he apologized no big deal.
Elvis would've been guilty of statutory rape and probably would've spent some time in prison for it.

In the US it was a big deal-mass burnings of the Beatles in effigy, mass burnings of Beatle records, anti Beatle rallies and radio stations refusing to play their records. My own local paper had a front page picture of a Beatle record bonfire.
IF Elvis got Priscilla pregnant-the story broke and "he did not marry her" perhaps you would be correct-but I can not see this happening in that way.
I see Priscillas parents rallying behind the couple showing support with the Colonel working overtime to make this a momentary bump which would not be insurmountable in the scenario I just explained.
But if the parents were not supportive, if Elvis did not marry her, then the story would be very much like you think. I just do not see this happening if she had got pregnant.

To me all the burnings of the records and radio stations refusing to play the Beatles because of the comments made by Lennon were an overreaction but that's another discussion for another day.
Elvis wouldn't of been able to just apologize like Lennon and then be forgiven.
Even if Elvis would've married Priscilla I think it still would've been a huge scandal comparable to Jerry Lee Lewis situation.
If Elvis didn't marry her it would've been much much worse than that.

I really do think there is another child out there somewhere. Just think about the amount of women he may have "known" in his life time, and odds are good there is at least one child somewhere.
As impulsive as Elvis could be, and especially in the heat of passion, I just don't see him being careful every time.

And.....as I pointed out.....it did not end JLL nor his career-today he is as big as he ever was in England (where the controversy began) and is a living legend.
I just do not think Elvis would have lost his career. I would not have stopped buying his records nor seeing his movies if this came to light-and I would think 95% of his fans would also not have quit. Most people who would have had a huge problem with this -never liked him to start with-and were the people who called him "the devils tool"

You have to remember Jerry Lee Lewis' career was never the same after that even though he was able to make a comeback.
He had 3 top 10 records and all of them were million sellers then when the scandal became public he was banned from the radio in the U.S. for quite a while
He had no more big hits on the pop charts and he was making far less on public appearances after the scandal.
He began making country music albums in the mid 60's and finally broke through and began receiving substantial airplay on the country charts in the late 60's that's when he made a comeback on the country charts with ''She even woke me up to say goodbye'' and ''Another place, Another time''
if the scandal had not occured I think he would've continued to have a few more big hits on the pop charts and continued receiving radio play until 1960 or 1961.
Then his career would've died out anyway just like Fat's Domino and the other 50's rockers.
Even if the same things happened to Elvis that happened to Jerry Lee it would've had a devastating effect on his career.

You see where we differ in outlook is I truely see Elvis as a huge step above most other entertainers with the charisma factor-and I think that makes all the difference in how things would have ended up.
I'll point out that because of his hip shaking he was not expected to last 2 years by all those who said they knew the public and the publics reaction to his type of entertaining. That was well over 50 years ago......Jackie Gleason said "Frankly I tell you he can not last"
He was attacked from nearly all the establishment, religious leaders, politicians......he survived. His fans are the most loyal in the world-I see that as a step above most other entertainers and it would have made the difference IMO but its just MO.

I understand that
you know what they say the bigger they are the harder they fall.
I think Elvis could've come back from any scandal except a sex scandal
sex scandals always seems to ruin the careers of those involved.
If Elvis had got Priscilla pregnant in Germany and it had gotten out I don't see him having all the success that he had in the early 60's.

As I said IMO it would have depended on how it was handled-marriage would have been a necessity, and the parents would have to have given their blessings to the whole thing by backing Elvis and Priscilla.
I can not envision Col Parker not using every "snowman tool" and public relations ploy in his book to not keep to keep this as neat and tidy as possible-for all my reservations about Parker I am the first to admit he had a way of handling things like this.
But it is a mute point never happened so its open to debate.

three more possible scenario's to come out of this had it happened.
1. Since Elvis was a teen idol with a good majority of his fanbase being teenagers him getting married in 1960 would possibly turn some teenage girl fans off of him they fantasized about being married to him themselves.
Colonel Parker was always concerned about Elvis getting married early on in his career to Anita Wood because he felt it would hurt his popularity with female fans.
I could definately see this happening if he married Priscilla in 1960.
2. Hal Wallis and Colonel Parker began to build Elvis career in movies around films that were aimed at a family audience something that people of all ages could enjoy mom, dad, teenagers, little kids etc.
Had this whole scandal erupted I don't see Blue Hawaii and Gi Blues being the big box office blockbusters they were.
Elvis was more accepted by the older generation after he got out of the army than when he went in if he was involved in a scandal like that all that would've never happened.
3. If Elvis career was severly damaged by the scandal I see Colonel Parker quitting as Elvis manager and going with another client.

So the Colonel quits, Elvis marries Cilla, and they have a baby...........would he end up driving a truck again????? Maybe his career would not recover, especially if Tom wasn't 'promoting'????

For the Colonel to drop Elvis his career would've had to have been beyond repair at least in the short term.
Colonel Parker would then move on to managing someone else and Elvis wouldn't of had a career.

3. If Elvis career was severly damaged by the scandal I see Colonel Parker quitting as Elvis manager and going with another client.
And as everyone saw in 1967 when he married Priscilla he still had teenage girls as fans, he still had adult female fans many were happy for him.
Brian Epstein had a similar worry for John Lennon and Paul McCartney- both who were married fairly quickly after the Beatles hit big-and it was also found to not be the reality of the situation.
As far as the movies not being big-maybe not-once again it depends on how it would have been handled.
As far as Parker quitting as manager-he once said (paraphrasing)
"Someone like Presley comes along only once every generation"
SO unless Elvis had actually killed someone and was caught red handed I really think Parker quitting was not in the cards.
JLLewis's 5th wife (20 something years younger than him) was found dead in his bed a couple months after they married.
Suicide was the speculation and JLee said they had their share of arguments but he did not think she would have killed herself.
Huge investigation, huge inquiry and Jerry Lee survived this also-even though he himself was heavily into prescription meds and some thought he had been a factor in her habit.
I see what you are thinking-just do not think it would have been as bleak and cut and dry as you do. I think Colonels snowman abillity and Elvis's natural charisma would have weathered this if handled correctly.
Now if he did not marry her, and the parents made an all out effort to get Elvis that would have been hard to combat. But truthfully do you think thats how it would have been handled? I just do not.

meaning that he would face criminal prosecution.
I meant the Colonel would only drop Elvis if his career went totally down the drain and he was no longer making any money thus he would've no longer been an asset to the Colonel.

I can not see Elvis not marrying her if he knew it had come out in the press-I can not see her parents refusing to allow them to marry-since it would mean an out of wedlock birth for their daughter. I can not see Priscilla jumping at the chance to marry him if she were pregnant.
