Some people know that I'm a big vampire fan and everyone knows that I'm an even bigger Elvis fan. So one of my friends told me that I should read this series that has a character based off of Elvis. So I searched it up on the net today and found out that the books she was talking about were the Southern Vampire Series aka (True Blood on HBO). I read a part from the first book on the net and it made me sad. Read this and find out why:

bk 1

"Sookie," Bill said warningly, "this isBubba." "Bubba," I repeated, not quite trusting my ears. "Yep, Bubba," the vampire said cheerfully, goodwill radiating from his fearsome smile. "That's me. Pleased to meetcha."
I shook hands with him, making myself smile back. Good God Almighty, I never thought I'd be shaking hands with Him. But he'd sure changed for the worse.
"Bubba, would you mind waiting here on the porch? Let me explain our arrangement to Sookie."
"That's all right with me," Bubba said casually. He settled on the swing, as happy and brainless as a clam.
We went into the living room, but not before I'd noticed that when Bubba had made his appearance, much of the night noise—bugs, frogs—had simply stopped. "I had hoped to explain this to you before Bubba got here," Bill whispered. "But I couldn't."
I said, "Is that who I think it is?"
"Yes. So now you know at least some of the sighting stories are true. Butdon't call him by his name.
Call him Bubba! Something went wrong when he came over—from human to vampire—maybe it was all the chemicals in his blood." "But he was really dead, wasn't he?" "Not... quite. One of us was a morgue attendant and a big fan, and he could detect the tiny spark still left, so he brought him over, in a hurried manner." "Brought him over?"

"Made him vampire," Bill explained. "But that was a mistake.
He's never been the same from what my friends tell me. He's as smart as a tree trunk, so to make a living he does odd jobs for the rest of us. We can't have him out in public, you can see that."
I nodded, my mouth hanging open. Of course not. "Geez," I murmured, stunned at the royalty in my yard.
"So remember how stupid he is, and how impulsive ... don't spend time alone with him, and don't ever call him anything but Bubba. Also, he likes pets, as he told you, and a diet of their blood hasn't made him any the more reliable. Now, as to why I brought him here ..."
I stood with my arms across my chest, waiting for Bill's explanation with some interest.
"Sweetheart, I have to go out of town for a while," Bill said.

I wonder what other Elvis Fans has to say about this.

I have been a big fan of the books and show but not to happy that they are using elvis in a vampire world called bubba who likes to drink blood of cats. Good thing they aren't going to put bubba in the show.

I think this is an insult to Elvis, his family, friends and fans. I hope it is a miserable failure.

The show true blood didn't write the books but a lady called Charlaine Harris and her books are very popular all over the world. I really don't have a problem with her writing books but don't put elvis in them even if he is treated like the nicest vampire in the books.

I sure agree with that! I loved that movie but Bruce Campbell didn't want to do a sequel and I can't see anyone else making the roll work the way he did.

I know, why couldn't the character be like Edward but not so emo?:P Or more like Elvis' personality. I don't mind the losing his memory part but the author could at least make the character do Elvis justice and not make him out to be a joke.

Don't worry, I felt the same way.

Making Elvis out to be a joke is what I have a problem with, not the books.

Making Elvis out to be a joke is what I have a problem with, not the books.I've read the entire series of these books and I'm a huge fan of them. But making Elvis "Bubba" was a mistake on the part of Ms. Harris. I've begun another vampire series by JR Rain called the Samantha Moon novels. There is also an Elvis character in those, but this time he's not a dimwit. He's a vampire cop, older, but still handsome. I like this Elvis character better, but still not good enough. I'd have written it much differently in both of the series. He'd have had all of the charisma and charm, and especially his beauty, in tact. More along the lines of one of Anne Rice's vampires, but nicer.

My wife and I Horror and Vampire fanatics. Read and have all the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris. Love the show True Blood. Have all 5 seasons on dvd. At some point I like character and then sometimes I thinks it's just stupid. But I think since we can find elements of Horror, Drama and black comedy in it to me it's nothing but just plain fun. I don't think anybody wanted to make Elvis look like a joke it's just that if you really pay attention to True Blood there's a lot of "pisstakings" on everything so no I don't take this too seriously. I think Bubba rules. :)
