Cirque du Soleil is proud to present its new resident show that will be playing at ARIA Resort & Casino at CityCenter in Las Vegas opening December 2009. New information about the show along with some fun videos have just been posted. The production pays tribute to Elvis' music and life, fusing dance and acrobatics, live music and iconic tracks, nostalgia and modernity, high technology and raw emotion. In short, the show will be in Elvis' image: powerful, sexy, whimsical and truly unique. The official name of the show will be announced later this year.
ARIA is a new and spectacular resort and casino located in the heart of CityCenter, a dazzling vertical city on the Las Vegas Strip.

Thanks for posting franny

I think this is a bad idea the Beatles already had a show like this and now it seems Elvis will be just doing what they have already done.

I want Elvis to be more original.

My hubs and I are planning on a trip to the Aria and the show the week between Xmas and New Years. I talked to them today on the phone, they still can't give an absolute date for the opening.

This could be the start of something big. And we don't actually need Pia Zadora to do the opening ceremony. Sure, have Phil Donahue caught in a tuba or Raquel Welch eating the mike, but lay off his blue suede shoes!

Great!

I've been looking forward to the opening of this show since it was announced. Cirque du Soleil always puts on fantastic shows and I can't wait to see what they have done with 'Elvis'!

Note to self: Put 'Holiday Vegas Trip' on list for Santa! :D

Sounds really great-they have such an energy to their shows already but add the energy of an ELVIS SHOW and it should be an explosion!

I think so too Ken, I'm really looking forward to it. I'm very curious about how I will feel when I walk through the doors of the Hilton...very sad I imagine.

As many times as you entered that place I'm sure you will feel that twinge of sadness......but don't let it be more than a twinge....enjoy the show and the fact that Elvis is still represented there.(y)

I always knew it would make me sad, and now I can't help but think about my mother and daddy and Elvis, and the fact that they are all gone now. I know that Mother and Daddy would want me to remember the good times we had there though.

Yes your parents would not want you to think of those times with anything but a smile and fondness-I'm sure they wanted you to remember how much they loved taking you and the joy they also got in doing it with you. Nothing is greater than making a son or daughter happy-its universal.

That is so true Ken, there's nothing that compares to seeing your child happy. The night that Elvis gave me the scarf several people around us said they didn't know who was happier....me or my parents!:D:lol:

I have always liked hearing how your parents were supportive of you-my mom just could not be more negative about Elvis.
She was not the type to understand such things and hearing how your parents did is so refreshing to me. (y)(y)(y)

Thanks Ken! Yes, I was VERY fortunate to have such wonderful parents, I don't think we ever had a cross word with each other.

This is my parents...taken the night of my wedding.:D

Love is a great show and im sure this one will be just as good.

I don't think you have seen Love from your post as it is still running - don't forget the #1 Hits Album followed the Beatles 1 and both were a huge success.

Elvis has little to say about it he is not doing anything.
IMO there is nothing wrong with using an idea that has already been tried-as long as it has a variation to it-in this case the music and the tone will be ELVIS not the Beatles so it has to be different in many ways.
The problem is that there are only so many options that are available to be used with a dead artist.
You can not be really have originality-if the "original" is dead.
If we all just tried to do original things "without tweaking them"
we would not have differing flavors of ice cream, chocolate bars, soda, potato chips etc......
All clothes would be the same because no one wanted to vary color, style, material, etc.....
All cars would still be Model Ts with jet black finish......
The concerts which travel the world featuring Elvis filmed performances and many of his original group are a success-yet Frank Sinatras family have also followed the lead of the Elvis shows and they have done the same with Frank and his filmed work-but.....the shows are totally different as were Elvis and Frank......so its the same concept with a differing outcome and tone.

.

I mean Sillerman is in charge now and his idea's so far have not been.

Like impersonator contests and now this.

He could probably come out with something different if he thought real hard but no

Ken is right about this IMO. The man's been dead for 32 years and there isn't any room left for an "original" concept. I don't think this show will have any connection to Elvis impersonator contests, I think it will be a little more high-brow than that. You seem to imply that Sillerman isn't putting much thought or effort into this venture.
