In the soon to be released book, 'An Uncommon Journey' author Lamar Fike recalls when David Bowie wrote a song for the King.

"In 1976, David's then-wife Angela Bowie, visited us all at the now-defunct International in Las Vegas, and she brought with her a song David had written especially for Elvis, 'The Prettiest Star'.

She was a bit under the weather so she didn't get to stay for the show, but gave me the song to give to Elvis. We were terrifically excited to get something from one of the new emerging acts on the music scene. Elvis was always very much aware of the next thing, and, at that point it was Bowie.

"Fike has also written a screenplay to accompany the book entitled '57-60: One of the Boys.' "The screenplay is currently with several film companies in N. Y. and L. A. Fike expects to be able to announce a deal in about 90 days."

The song is terrible it wasn't actually written for Elvis but released by David Bowie himself as a single in the U.K. in 1969 where it didn't do very well.

To me the song sounds weird and David Bowie sounds like a woman on it.

I wouldn't say that

I'd say maybe Bowie's wife got a tape of his song and brought to Lamar for Elvis to record. Lamar is under the impression that David wrote the song specifically for Elvis because he's not a fan and is not familiar with Bowie's material the song is rather obscure it was released in 1969 where it bombed then a few years later was released as an album track on one of David's albums for RCA. You'd have to be a big fan of David Bowie to know the song is not an original.

The song isn't A side hit single material but more like album filler
I can't imagine Elvis liking it it's rather weird both lyrically and musically.

Obviously, Elvis didn't record the song; so that kinda indicates that he didn't
like it, or it didn't get to him, I think.:blink::blink::blink:

With Elvis you never know many times he recorded bad songs that he didn't like or planned on recording a song but never got around to it.
So it isn't that obvious.

I am right

When I say something you can take it to the bank

David Bowie's orginal version of the prettiest star is on youtube.
The U.K. version of youtube IIRC
It was also put on David's 1973 album Aladdin Sane.

I don't find it unusual that his wife Angie didn't know about the song do you think Priscilla knew every song Elvis recorded and released.

Sometimes Priscilla will come across as being very vague about Elvis music and career like knowing certain songs but not having a real deep knowledge of the music.
She also stated many times that Elvis wasn't selling out his concerts the last couple years of his life when we all know he was selling out places until the very end.
I bet Priscilla doesn't know about songs like Sylvia, Find out what's happening, Until it time for you to go, All I needed was the rain etc. the really obscure songs actually in interviews Lisa Marie comes across as having a deeper knowledge of the songs Elvis recorded than Priscilla.
David Bowie's wife probably knew a lot of songs of his but not every single song.

I'm just answering your question

I'd bet money that Priscilla doesn't know half of the 750 songs Elvis recorded
I don't have to be an insider to know these things like I said she comes across as very vague in interviews about Elvis music where Lisa seems to know more.

No actually I have read that David wrote the song for Angela and he released it as a single in 1970.
Bowie met Angela in 1969, they were married in 1970.
Perhaps Fike just misunderstood, or is just not remembering correctly what she was telling him about the song-since she had to know it was written for her.
Or theres the chance she thought it would add to the possiblility that Elvis might record it-if he thought it was writter for him.
Bowie coincedentily was also born on January 8th.

But he still met Angela also in 1969 -he supposedly played the song for her after he wrote it for her over the phone.
She had to be well aware of the song since it was writter for her.
She either misrepresented it to Lamar or he just is not remembering it properly-thats my guess.
Wiki says it was recorded in 1970 in England and witha photo of the single cover and all related info.

certainly

There's rumors that Bowie was there and he has actually said that he was but I think he was touring Europe at the time or somewhere else so he wasn't at the shows.

David Bowie has been known to say things one minute and then change his stories later on that's probably due to him consuming large amounts of Cocaine over the years.

At Elvis 1972 MSG concerts there were rumors that John Lennon, David Bowie, Art Garfunkel, Paul Simon, George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Led Zeppelin, and Elton John were all in attendance but of all those people I think the only one's that were actually there were Paul Simon and George Harrison.

Yes, Lamar's probably not remembering things correctly such factual errors does not bode well for his upcoming book

I take most of what is on wikipedia with a grain of salt.
