This black doctor’s bag was used by Elvis Presley’s personal physician, George C. Nichopoulos — better known as “Dr. Nick” — for making house calls to Graceland. It will be accompanied by a photo of Dr. Nick about to board Elvis’s plane, with Lisa Marie holding the bag, at the auction of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe personal items being held in Las Vegas later this month.

Paging Dr. Nick
Also among the items in the Presley lot are former possessions of Presley’s personal physician, Dr. George Nichopoulos, better known as “Dr. Nick.” They include a ring and necklace that Presley once owned and gave to the physician who kept him supplied with the pills that contributed to his death. Three gold watches are also among the items being auctioned.
“Elvis was known as a giver,” Julien explained. “He gave gifts of things that he wore.”
“People want anything to do with his life or career,” Darren Julien said of Elvis Presley.
Other items include Dr. Nick’s medical bag (estimated to bring $4,000-$6,000), Presley’s desk and chair made by his Uncle Vester Presley ($8,000-$10,000), and Elvis’s personal copy of “The Prophet” with hand notations ($8,000-$10,000.)
If these items are so valuable why doesn't Dr. Nick pass them on down to his kids and grandkids? He's selling Elvis' personal copy of "The Prophet"?(n) And....you get a picture of Nick carrying the bag that contained all of the meds that would eventually lead to an early death for Elvis?http://smiley.net.ru/emosur123.gif (http://smiley.net.ru/emosur4.htm)

I don't have a problem with Dr.Nick selling a Elvis copy of the Prophet or his Desk and Chair that's fine.
I do think a picture of Dr.Nick's medical bag and Elvis empty pill bottles that he was selling just before this was incredibly tasteless.
I would think the personal copy of the "Prophet" with Elvis's own notations would be something to cherish-not sell??? It had a deep significance to Elvis and that makes it special I would think. But if Nick owns it now-he can do as he pleases with it.

I will never understand how someone could sell something that should have such sentimental value to them. But I guess in reality Dr Nick did not even really cherish "Elvis the man" just his money so why should he cherish "Elvis' things" when once again they can mean some profit to him.

This is correct. Most of Elvis' friends and bandmates have all sold some items Elvis gave them.I've asked a few of them about this personally. How could you part with it?Same reason every time. After so many years it's just not the same. It's just an object. Some would rather have the cash. The fans view these kind of objects differently than the people they were given to.I think the fans sometimes cherish them more than those who recieved them.

How did Dr. Nick come by that copy of the Prophet? It doesn't seem to me something that Elvis would have passed on to him????

The one comfort we can take from Nichopoulos selling personal items such as Elvis's annotated copy of The Prophet is that at least now there is a chance that these things will wind up in the possession of somebody who actually gives a s**t!
I know, I know- the best we can probably hope for is that they end up on the walls of a Hard Rock Cafe. I don't see this stuff ending up in Graceland any time soon.

I noticed that, too, Gail. Why would Lisa be carrying the bag? Did she even know what was inside the bag? That's very, very insensitive of Dr. Nick to do something like that.
And, frankly, I don't buy the quote that Elvis gave Dr. Nick his own personal copy of the book "The Prophet". I think it was actually given to someone else or may even still be in the possession of Graceland/EPE.

Elvis purchased dozens of copies of Khalil Gibran's tree-hugging, love-and-peace, let's-pretend-this-actually-has-meaning-when-it-really-doesn't book The Prophet and gave them out over many years.
It is likely Nick is telling the truth here; it was probably one of several "personal" copies.

It will be accompanied by a photo of Dr. Nick about to board Elvis’s plane, with Lisa Marie holding the bag It should have said the Lisa Marie instead of with Lisa Marie:doh:

Clearly Dr. Nick is carrying the bag, not Lisa. They are however about to board THE Lisa Marie plane. I seriously doubt that Lisa is even in this group, I bet she's no where around when this pic was taken.:blink:

It just goes to show people's true colors and what they were really around Elvis for and sure wasn't for Elvis as a human being. This makes me sick. All his so called friends and his ex-wife after all these years after his death are still holding out their hand.....If you need money so bad, go get a job and work for it like Elvis had to work hard.

That's a pretty broad statement, Mrs. Presley. At the time some had a job, Elvis hired them. No different than others that worked for him like maids, cooks and ect. Some also served as friends at Elvis's desire. Some were there when times were good or not so good, when his career was lucritive and when it was falling apart. And many came and went and did have other jobs. (and some still do)
There is always going to be the debate as to weather one was solely there to exploit Elvis, and was that their purpose from the get go.
I said before I don't condone what Doc. N, did, no more than I would condone any of the thousand of thousand of doctors that have done it for years, but to lump all in the same category, I don't think is fair or the truth of the matter.

I heard that also! Maybe he felt he would make more money selling the empty pill bottles and the "little black bag"! (n)
