I came across this while surfing the net and found particularly interesting this picture of Sun Studio from 78.

Is this when it was a barber shop?

He says it was an auto body shop but I have no idea what that means Bear, you could be right.

Oh right, I've read it now. It's for car parts, basically. Or work on the exterior of cars.
There's a lot of car-related businesses along Union, I guess. Must have been one of the many.

Why would they do such a thing! This was like the birthplace of rock n roll! I never knew that it was something else years later!

There were several different businesses on that premises before it was reopened as a studio in the eighties.
In addition to auto parts and a barbers, I think I heard it sold scuba diving equipment at one stage, or something equally bizarre.

I didn't know it had ever changed either but I'm glad they took it back and made it into a recording studio to honor Elvis again.

There are lots of real items there, although some of the equipment in the studio space, despite being of the right vintage, wasn't necessarily the actual gear used there 'in the day'.

The original stuff they do have is often to be found behind glass in the exhibit area at the beginning of the tour or occasionally on loan to the Rock'n'Soul museum elsewhere in Memphis.

For the most part though, you're seeing it just as it was, since the wall and floor tiles have survived unchanged, despite all those different businesses occupying the space during the intervening years.
You can even see the indentation in the floor where Bill Black's bass stood (y)
