According to Martin L. Gore, the inspiration for him to write "Personal Jesus" was Priscilla's book "Elvis and Me".

Depeche Mode's breakthrough single was based on a surprising source: Priscilla Presley's book Elvis and Me. I know many songs were inspired by Elvis-but not sure many were inspired by "a book on Elvis".

I was surprised that Gore was sitting around reading Elvis & Me, the song I had to look up on YouTube, I was impressed. Elvis is everywhere these days, eh.

What's so strange about that? I have a copy in most of the rooms in my house so that I can seek an inspirational passage whenever the mood takes me.
Plus, it raises the Positive Energy levels in the home. Kind of like a Feng Shui thing.
