The actor recently recalled stories about Elvis, Marilyn and JFK in his new autobiography. Hamilton states that "You had a choice -- you could either be Elvis' friend or the Colonel's friend. I chose The Colonel. I saw the Colonel operate and saw what he did for Elvis and how smart he was," said Hamilton. "The Colonel would say to Elvis, 'You can't be in film and on stage at the same time. You don't want to compete with yourself.' Elvis didn't want to work that hard. He liked to be with the Memphis guys. He liked to play paddle tennis and play touch football." Go here for 'Gorgeous George's excerpts'. (http://www.elvisinfonet.com/spotlight_gorgeousgeorge.html)

Hamilton appearently has made many other great choices......
What was his last movie? :hmm:
Colonel was friendly to George and gave him some free advice in the 60s-so naturally he would see the Col as the side he would choose. George and Elvis had little in common and that is the divide between them. Truthfully George was not that close to either the Col. or Elvis but if you had to choose he was closer to Parker.

The way he talks he was quite close to Parker
He says Parker was the best man at his wedding to his first wife Alana

A little bit of a fairy tale story, without the happy ending in 1975.. - Imagine being talked into getting married so quickly by the Colonel, wonder what the film was the Colonel had to watch so urgently.
Hasn't it been implied that the Colonel rushed Elvis into getting married, and making all the arrangements.. when Elvis is supposed to have said he favoured a Church Wedding. --The Colonel put out rumours it was going to be in LA, when Elvis was finishing filming for Clambake. To put off people like "Rona Barrett" the Hollywood columnist off the scent.
George Hamilton was born in MEMPHIS, Tenn in 1939.(so they had MEMPHIS in common!)
He also attended Elvis' funeral.
I remember YANIQUE DISKIN telling me in Feb 1973 in Vegas, that Tom and her used to have dinner at George Hamilton's home, and vise versa. I don't think she ever said anything about attending his Wedding with the Colonel, but I suppose it is possible.
George and Alanna got back to together in the 90s, for a USA-TV Chat show type series, ~ the 2nd season got cancelled.
Just the Colonel ~ weaving his spell on George..
Parker probably thought he had SNOWED Him....

It could be-but very little of his autobiography details his closeness other than a couple of stories. Remember many people say they were very close with Elvis-yet they only thought they were close.
Party manners is a Hollywood trait-everyone is best friends.

PRECISELY RIGHT!!!
If Elvis had ever caught wind of that fact, I'm sure Elvis would have had much less respect for George...as I do now after hearing that!!! :nono:

I don't think that was so bad
Saying he chose to be the Colonel's friend over Elvis is no big deal imo.
him and Elvis didn't have much in common and Elvis didn't have very many friends in showbiz.

Loyalty was a HUGE thing for Elvis, and with all of the respect that Elvis clearly showed for George, to have George make the proclamation that he chose to be friends with The Colonel over Elvis would not have sat well with Elvis, I believe. :hmm:
Elvis might not admit it publicly, but privately, I think that would really annoy Elvis that people felt they had to choose between being friends with Elvis or being friends with The Colonel. :hmm:

well maybe but the thing is George Hamilton and Elvis hardly ever saw eachother except once or twice in Hollywood and maybe a couple times backstage in Vegas so even though Elvis was nice to people whom he met I don't think he'd expect loyalty out of Hamilton because they weren't close at all. Hamilton saying he chose to be friends with the Colonel instead of Elvis is funny to me because Hamilton most likely wouldn't have been friends with Elvis even if he had really wanted to. George words it that way to make his book more interesting and to me he needs it because Hamilton never did have much of a career or anything.
