They put many out takes for sure,... with my collections i own i could have that FTD by my own...yet this whole out takes put a big curiousity on me...
..since EP gone ..seems like many of his albums even had additional tracks, it happened to his PROMISED LAND album ..and many more..
I dont remember if my question ever been discussed before ,please bear with me i just wonder...
Do you guys think it is really necessary to buy his out takes , buy a new CD of his with 4 or more additional tracks into it which means more money to spent ?? historically it might be important but then ... :hmm:

I?m quite happy for BMG to issue outtakes as bonus material, as long as there is a clear distinction between what was included on the original album release, and which songs are extras. Generally RCA/BMG do this, but I didn?t like the way they handled the 1999 re-issue of the ?On Stage? CD, when they added the bonus songs to the programme and changed the sequencing of the original album. This spoiled the original ?covers? concept of the album.

I think that the FTD soundtrack series is a much better way to release outtakes, in my opinion! This way, all the available outtakes are assembled in one place. This is a much neater way to release outtakes, than the way RCA used to do things which was to release 1 or 2 outtakes on an album. For example, on the GREAT COUNTRY SONGS CD from a few years ago, they released an alternate performance of FAIRYTALE....yes it's a country song, so it fits the theme of the album, but they released an alternate outtake mixed in with a bunch of master recordings. While it was nice to have the outtake of FAIRYTALE, fans had to spend money on an album containing mostly previously released material just to have that one outtake!
So, like rockinrebel pointed out, if FTD makes a clear distinction between the original album tracks and the outtakes, then I think it makes for a good CD and therefore it's worth it to buy the new upgrades! I agree with rockinrebel that mixing in the previously unheard live recordings with the original tracklisting when they re-did the ON STAGE album was a poor way to do things....the original 10 songs should have been placed on the CD first, followed by the outtakes.
I am certainly hoping that FTD will continue to re-release Elvis' albums this way...it is so much nicer to pull out 1 CD with all of the available material on it from a particular album/session, then having to pull out multiple CD's!! Now, of course, no re-release will probably ever be complete as Ernst is always finding new tapes with new outtakes on them, but for the most part, I think these FTD re-releases will be pretty comprehensive which is a big plus for all fans -- and worth every penny, in my opinion!
Hope this answers your question from my point of view buttonhead!! ;)

YOU ARE VERY WELCOME BUTTONHEAD!!! (y)
I think you'll find, once you begin listening to Elvis' outtakes, that you'll become more of a fan of them! It's truly amazing to listen to Elvis work through a song....sometimes the outtakes of a particular song all sound pretty much the same with some slight variation, while other times he changes the lyrics, tempo, etc. and the song outtakes are quite different than the finished master recording. Plus, depending on Elvis' mood, quite often the outtakes are quite amusing with Elvis messing up the lyrics, goofing around, etc. and they are quite humorous to listen to, in my opinion!!
I would be anxious to hear what you think of the outtakes from these soundtracks once you have a chance to listen to them!!! :hmm:

Hi Buttonhead, there are many outtakes I prefer to the original, I like the undubbed songs, more pure, an example is And the grass wont pay no mind. And I find it great to hear the man at work, creating. That's why I'm an out take junkie. (y)

I couldn't agree more with you P.S. Annie!! I LOVE to hear Elvis at work, how he progresses through a song....and sometimes, depending on the song, it is simply amazing how much different the early outtakes sound compared to the final version!! Absolutely FANTASTIC!!! (y)
Plus, like you, I enjoy hearing the songs undubbed....especially the ones from the TODAY sessions and the songs on the JUNGLE ROOM SESSIONS FTD! It really creates a more intimate feeling to the songs, in my opinion, when listening to them without all the additional strings, horns, etc.

These have allways been my most favorite Elvis soundtracks, even
KID GALAHAD , though i never did like the movie, but i do injoy the music from it.
and i know i be getting these cds from ftds. (y)
and on the KID GALAHAD cd it is nice to have both mono and stereo masters
on one cd.. :D
i do love his mono recordings from the 60's because imo Elvis is more up front
on these mono recordings then they stereo one's.
but thats imo. ;)

i agree with Annie, there are lots of outtakes i prefer to the original...
But i think why , is that we have heard the originals so many times, that now, when we hear another version (ex outtake), it sounds different and , for me it's like to listen to a new song...and find it on that moment better than the original...
The other side is also true, it's great to hear the man working on a song (y) , and to hear the song changing till the original.....
Yes, give me more of this ( thanks FTD)

Yeah I have that feeling to, it sounds like a new song. Espacially when they are undubbed like Mike said:
