Elvis Presley was no fan of Scientology, the religion founded by sci-fi writer?turned?religious guru L. Ron Hubbard. "F--- those people!" the King once exclaimed. "They're just after my money and my name."
Ironically, they eventually got his name ? and, very likely, a large amount of his money ? thanks to his daughter, Lisa Marie. "Were it not for Scientology," she once declared, "I would be completely insane or dead by now."

Elvis can't be held responsible for anyhting that his daughter does. But Lisa also don't have to do things just to please her dad's fans. She is an individual, who is doing financially well thanks to those fans. But she has the right to live her own life and make her own decisions.

The choice to join or not join Scientology has nothing to do with fan's influence. Though Elvis himself loved his fans, they hardly had an impact on how he wished to live his life, so that argument is beside the point here. Had he lived he wouldn't have had a say in her, by now almost middle aged, life either. However, much of the money that allegedly went to Scientology was money either made by him, or by exploiting his likeness, name and talent. So it may have been her choice, but they got her before she started making her own money through her own productivity  :hmm: (n)

..There were time Elvis said that Scientology was something he wouldn't get into.. from the book 'Child Bride' Elvis said " they're just after my money and my name ".. Priscilla was probably the one that introduce scientology to Lisa Marie... and i think if elvis alive , he would have "shit a brick" ... but now he is gone, he don't have any power to tell what his daughter should do..
In the other hand, the thought that his money is going to something he didnt like, sounds a little weird to me...where is the respect to Elvis from his daughter in this point ... :(

To each their own ..... and whatever floats one's boat.
Lisa has "Scientology" ............................
Elvis had "Geller" ....................................
Not much difference, if you ask me.

Elvis has long since had a influence on his daughters outlook, why should we bother where any of Elvis' money or that of his daughters go for that matter?
what is out there from the king is out there and we should be grateful, money has minimal effect on the kings workings, more has to do with EPE and how they can make money and what we the true fans can see, I don't really care how EPE make there money as long as i get to see everything, take note "I WANT TO SEE "ELVIS ON TOUR" AND THE "CBS SPECIAL" ON DVD AND DON'T CARE WHERE THE MONEY GOES"

My thoughts on this topic ..well..to me..religion is a very private part of my life, I wouldn't judge anyone on what they choose to "follow" everyone has there own little beliefs and ways, and I think this is a good thing, the world be a very boring place if we all had the same views and ways of living, Religions interest me..I enjoy reading about other "faiths". Guys & Gals,
We all, are, ......... the sum of our own unique life experiences / perspectives.
Lisa Marie has chosen to embrace (much like EP himself did on a number of occassions, despite always returning to his Christian roots) ........... a belief system that caters to Celebrity & Stardom (simply because on some level, it obviously must be addressing & helping the problems one faces given such a "position" in life).
If LM believes that it has helped her & "saved" her life ......... both literally & figuratively, ............. then she has found what she is searching for ------> that should be applauded. Ironically (as harsh as this may sound to some), ............. I'm not so sure the same can be said of her father, EP. (ie: LM was not only able to face, but also overcome her addiction problems, EP was not).
I, personally, would never presume to tell others what they should or should not do with what is their own (in this case, LM's income). This all, IMO, is just another bizarre aspect that aptly demonstrates just how possessive "fans" can be on a number of levels about matters ............. because they feel a very real mental "bond" secondary to an imagined relationship with a man they never really knew (EP) in reality. For good & bad, such is "Fandom" & "Celebrity."
Priscilla's influence on Lisa not only explains her religious beliefs, but also Lisa's views on the MMM's & those that were around her father. Have said it before a number of times, ........... LM was simply too young to be able to formulate all of the bile that she now carries towards some of those that were there.
Of course, Lisa's beliefs have been placed there by others .................... as have all of our own to varying degrees.
-------------------------------
I like Lisa Marie, ......... she's a straight-shooter, no BS kind of person .......... and I respect that. She's also got a mouth like a sailor, which from all accounts comes from her daddy's side of the family. I don't necessarily like that, especially on a lady, .......... but I digress ........... ;)
Live & let live, ............. and try not to be so jealous .............. & possessive ............ fellow EP fans.
All things considered, ........... Lisa's doing great & a got a good head on her shoulders, from what I can see. I suppose she also still learning, much like all of us should as well.

First off: (quoting Elvis here during one of his Love Me Tender shake a hand, give a pucker rounds) "Thank you, dear" ;)
Guys & Gals,
We all, are, ......... the sum of our own unique life experiences / perspectives.

Fair. I agree with especially the bold part.
I'm not such a fan, rest assured. I don't give a rat's behind what an individual does with his or her self earned money. The thing that does fuel my opinion in this, and other similar matters of wealthy and not so wealthy individuals, is that these "religions" or cults more or less suck empty bank accounts and often do so by quite militant practices (simply going on testimonials from those who quit these cults).
That is my main point of criticism: the practices of Scientology (and other, similar organizations for lack of a better term) all seem to follow this path.
Oh, I definitely agree with that. That's what I always say to (especially younger) fans who see her as a first degree source on her father.
She was just nine when he died, and of those nine years how much time did she really see him? He was still making movies in her first two years of life. Went back on the concert trail after that. Priscilla permanently moved her to California in what? 1972? So that was at age 4 (and really: what does a 4 year old understand and is able to interpret correctly by herself?) and after that again only saw her father when he wasn't on tour or wasn't asleep through most of the day.......
I like Lisa Marie, ......... she's a straight-shooter, no BS kind of person .......... and I respect that. She's also got a mouth like a sailor, which from all accounts comes from her daddy's side of the family. I don't necessarily like that, especially on a lady, .......... but I digress ........... ;)
I have no opinion on her as a person, or on her character: don't know her personally so can only guess. Do have an opinion on her as a "singer", because I've been educated musically, and although I am not an expert, I've learned enough to know who has vocal talent and who doesn't. So far she has not passed the average scale as far as her performances go (n)
Live & let live, ............. and try not to be so jealous .............. & possessive ............ fellow EP fans.
All things considered, ........... Lisa's doing great & a got a good head on her shoulders, from what I can see. I suppose she also still learning, much like all of us should as well.
Am certainly not jealous and/or possessive of the Presley's or most any other celebrity out there. Am quite content with my own little life, hard as it may be from time to time, and am too often shaking my head at people who despite all the riches and possibilities their life gives them, can still screw up so royally and make (public) asses of themselves :hmm: Names like the Hilton sisters, Elton John, Whitney Houston come to mind:oops:
Nah, let me just continue my own little struggle on this weird planet. :P

Captain, reading through this thread, I was formulating my response, and then I discovered that you had already delivered it for me--thanks for saving me the time! :D
Mainly, it was on the "too each her own" theme, primarily because it apparently was Scientology which helped her kick her drug habits.
I do agree with your initial post, Jackie.
Regarding Lisa's talent level, I haven't seen any of her live performances in quite a while, but I am guessing she has improved (something she had plenty of room for) over time--would that be accurate? However, on her CD, I think she sounds great. A quick side note on that...my dad borrowed some of my CDs a while back, and that's one that for some reason was without its case. He had been playing it and really enjoying it, and had no idea who it was (the CD label does not name the artist)! If she hasn't quite yet, I think she will come into her own. It will be interesting to see how her second album turns out, and how well it is received.
