Don't you think this thread could really enlighten some folks who have a pretty skewed idea about Elvis's final year?

If someone were to read a book like Down At The End Of Lonely Street, he or she would think that Elvis weighed around 350 lb at the time of his death. I believe it was claimed that much of that weight had been gained since the last tour, which was a convenient way of explaining why he didn't look that heavy in any of his 1977 concerts. But that is simply ridiculous! We are to believe that during six or seven weeks Elvis gained a hundred pounds or more? :twisted:

At any rate, at least from the standpoint of his appearance--and perhaps his spirit, I believe the photos posted here do a great job of illustrating that things were not all bad in '77.

A real shame that Elvis didn't try on some different jumpsuits during '77. Unbelievable that nobody told Elvis that the Sundial suit only made him look heavier.

Is still don't understand why Graceland doesn't make wax models of Elvis to show of the suits. When making the head is too expensive, at least make a body that's almost the same in size as Elvis during the time that he wore that specific suit.

I think that especially picture of Unchained Melody (from 25th June 77) is one of saddest Elvis? picture from his last concerts!!! Elvis seems fat and very very ill on this pic!

One correction though--the picture you indicated as being from Baltimore (May 29--on the 27th Elvis was in Binghamton) is actually from Rochester on May 25. My avatar photo was also taken then. There is a shot that was snapped in Baltimore by Keith Alverson in which he was seated; it's likely you were thinking of that one. Do forgive my nitpicking. :D

Peter, I think that Cincinnati photo is actually quite good. I think what is registering on his face there is mostly due to the emotion of the song, and he otherwise looks pretty good. Sad to me are the pics from those first concerts in February, which I'd rather not post in this thread. But you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

I really dont like 77 that much :blink: so i maybe should not say that much on this topic, but......
I have always like the first tour of 77, he used many different suits on that tour, not only the "pizza" :whistling: suite that i dont like much :help:
But on this tour he used 3-4 different suits, dont know for sure, i have to many beers in my head right now :cheers: , but check these pix out folks.
