I wonder if there is a member on this site who saw him at the first opening night in Vegas, in 1969? Or while he was doing the 68 Comeback, the sitdown shows?? I'd be curious.

I just went to the elvis-in-concert.com website and instantly saw their first mistake. I have posted the pics on here before(and in the gallery) of opening night, August 4, 1972. The 2 piece white suit with the blue concha belt with the fringe is what he was wearing. They show him in a powder blue jumpsuit!:supriced::supriced::supriced:
It makes me wonder what else is wrong on their site.:hmm:
Update...they also have the wrong info for opening night August 6, 1973. He was wearing the AFH jumpsuit, NOT the rainbow suit they have listed.

I've gone to their site numerous times trying to figure out the exacts days we attended Elvis' two concerts by the suits they claimed he wore then and it didn't seem right....didn't spark anything in my mind...sooooo, I've been wondering just how accurate they are too.

Now I already know very well that many people challange me for proof.
At age 62 (a young looking one I might add..lol) I have seen Elvis in Person since 1957 when you could call it the hayrides.. you could actually touch him..and then through the years, I saw him in concert 30 times, the First Vegas stint, but not the 68 comeback...
I have family in hollywood, and so I was on the lotin 62 during filming of "It Happened at theWorld's fair"
I have been kissed by Elvis, I have just sat and talked to him (perfect gentleman) I was at the final performance in Indianapolis... :'(
Elvis has never been far, I've been to Graceland before his death and after....
It isn't my problem if people don't believe me.. thats life.. he did it his way I do it mine! I don't care to have everyone know who I am. Not being snotty, just being realistic and honest.

yea the crowd from Alburn loved him,Esp.when he said how big a fan he was of Alburn football. I knew when ELvis arrived backstage cause a couple of fans were so high up near the roof they could see over and behind the curtain and started screaming with delight when he came up behind the stage
He did encounter some feed back problems and a mic that kept cutting in and out,Elvis slings HIS mic across the stage and quickly grabbed a mic off the stand that Voice was using...and ends the song.
Later as ELvis wonders towards the end of the stage and POPED a scarf at the sound guys.

Thank you to my dearest young lady, Jess. As always the heart of gold.
Yes honey, it has been very difficult for me to see the small print and to sit at my desk, but I am getting stronger every day.
To those of you who asked me what it was like, there for awhile the lightbulbs flashing were bothering Elvis as well, later there were NO cameras allowed.
When I first saw him he was on an outdoor wood stage, a bunch of silly ol' chairs packed around, and he was most friendly and totally unreal to look at, to touch, to listen to.
As his performance in '69 he was so handsome that anyone with a beating heart (men as well I think? lol) almost fainted at the fact he was there, in the flesh, close enough to see very well, and extremely friendly and joking with the audience. He was the most beautiful person I ever knew, and certainly the most handsome.
He did not take his fame or his talent for granted, he was a true gentleman.
Many times as I look back, lucky enough to hjave been up close and personal (no not as a lover or girlfriend) but to be invited to sit with him, go back stage, and go to Graceland, are memories I treasure.
The MM was not pleased with my connections, nor were they pleased with Larry Geller, who is one of the finest men on this earth. The truest friend to Elvis that I know. Joe was a good guy too. The others tried every trick in the book to block me.
Elvis was down to earth, he would laugh, and drink his pepsi and dress down at home, like anyone of us might. He wanted and needed this type of friendship, and it was a bond that I never took for granted, never abused and never once was stupid enough to ask for an autograph.
Elvis liked this. Not that he didn't give many to many people, but he liked the ones who let him just be Elvis the man, not Elvis the extreme entertainer of all time.
I miss him, and I love him very much. I have many common stories and will get back with you as I can.
Thanks again Jess, you are a sweetheart, unmatched in the Elvis world. And I love you.;)

The MM was not pleased with my connections, nor were they pleased with Larry Geller, who is one of the finest men on this earth. The truest friend to Elvis that I know. Joe was a good guy too. The others tried every trick in the book to block me.
Are you mentioned in any of the books?
Elvis was down to earth, he would laugh, and drink his pepsi and dress down at home, like anyone of us might.
That's interesting.:hmm: Why do you think that Priscilla and Lisa always tell stories of how he loved to dress up...all the time? Lisa always says that she could "hear him before she could see him."
I was at GL this past week and happened to see an interview with Pris where she goes into detail about how he always dressed up, that he loved doing that better than anything.:hmm:

There are lots of photos, such as this, with Elvis wearing tracksuits. Remember Elvis at the beach, Elvis with Ginger's sister, Elvis just sitting on a lounge, all in tracksuits. (Although this outfit, on second look, doesn't look like a tracksuit, lol). :D
I also believe that Elvis also didn't like photos taken all the time, which is understandable.

Elvis only started wearing the track suits the last two years of his life when he really started feeling bad. Before that he was always in high style.

Alot of the pics from the last year of his life show him in jogging/track suits, I think that says alot about his health and physical condition at the time. I don't think he really cared anymore. And..it would be difficult to dress up at the beach!:D
I'm simply going by the interview I saw last week at GL...Pris talks in length about his clothes and the way he loved to dress up even when he was not on the stage. It's an interview you will see if you choose the Platinum tour.:)
And of course, Lisa has always talked about hearing all of his jewelry coming, long before she could see him coming!

When I first saw him he was on an outdoor wood stage, a bunch of silly ol' chairs packed around, and he was most friendly and totally unreal to look at, to touch, to listen to.
dress down at home, like anyone of us might. He wanted and needed this type of friendship, and it was a bond that I never took for granted, never abused and never once was stupid enough to ask for an autograph.
Must not be the same Elvis we all know. I was stupid one time and asked for an autograph and he was nice enough to wait until I got something for him to sign. Also asked for a picture but he didn't want any taken cause he had just finished playing racquetball.

Yes indeed I knew him many years, and was a friend.
The MM know me, Marty Lacker hates me..but then he has little fondness for few people. Which is his right.
You don't need my autograph, I am not so much famous as have been around hollywood in films and stunt/body double work for many years compensating my college costs.
I am hiding my idenity, but I am trying to share with you, not make you laugh or feel that I am anyone that is any more special than those who never knew Elvis.
Many of us middle aged ladies knew Elvis. Most of us can vouch that he was a wonderful man. I don't mean intimately either, his love for his Mother made him a deeply caring person, who wanted and needed true friends that didn't ask too much, was able to listen and give feedback on things he cared about.
Such as the horses, the dogs and by all means his little Lisa.
I don't brag about knowing Elvis, as it was not a close nit relationship such as he had with Larry. Now there is a man who really knew ELVIS!
Don't we all just love him, for everything he gave to his last breath?
Genie

Because when you break bread with The King, you never forget that 'experience'..........(it ranks right above giving birth to your first born and wedding day.....in that order!).....
AMEN to that Dear Lady.
The experience of a lifetime, I am certain we all feel this way. Some more than others, some who were not yet born that have become fans, will never really comprehend the stamina, the incredible indurance and loving ways, as this man loved almost everyone. He appreciated his fans...and he put himself down to average worth just like most of his fans.
I have never in my life, nor do I expect to meet anyone in his likeness. He shone with a light, he had a gift that could be felt through his gospel songs, making many people think twice about how they act and react.
He wasn't just Elvis Presley, entertainer. He was a man, a very good decent man. The likes the world shall never see again.
So we need to be loving to his memory and not be offended by who touched him, sat with him, went somewhere with him, saw how many concerts or not, is it that important?
The sadest day (I'm from Indianapolis..my home town) seing that concert, I knew...I think everyone there knew. There was an aura that he was saying goodbye. I'm not the only one who noticed.:'( I sat in the front row crying, without ever taking my eyes off him. I'm sure he knew, that I knew his thoughts and his pain. Most people who are ill, hide, they are vain.
He gave and he gave to his fans, because they loved him no matter what books were written, or trash talk was printed.

Uh-huh. You don't brag about knowing Elvis, so why raise it in the first place?
If you're so intent about telling the truth about Elvis and setting the record straight and all that - then why not have the cahones to stick your hand up, say who you are and tell your stories ... as opposed to what you do now, which is say little of substance and expect everyone to swallow it holus bolus.
You remind me of Sue Wiegert and her friend Cricket (the TTWII cat ladies). With a dash of Wanda June Hill thrown in.
And if you don't care whether people believe you ... again, why even bother hinting at it?

To get this thread back on topic
When I was at the Houston Astrodome with Roseanne and Totally insane I remember being just a little disappointed that Elvis didn't perform Kentucky rain.
I can tell you with no doubt-when I saw Elvis it was a 15 year long dream come true. I had seen his films and TV specials, I had listened countless hours to his music in times of great joy and great sorry-there was nothing about that night I saw him that I would say disappointed me. I was amazed at his "Hurt" and his "America the Beautiful" and this was in 1976.
I was happy with the show (which was pretty good for 76) and looking back today-privileged to see him live.
Even today when music comes up and people say ....Oh I saw the Eagles
or...I saw Creedance...or I went to the Mississppi River Festival and saw Dylan----when I mention I saw Elvis everyone wants all the details and wishes they had seen him before he died. Special.

 A lot to answer here... for awhile there the media were allowed in with their flashbulbs, and some people possed with fake media passes... I imagine that was about '69 0r 70.
Yes, in one book I have a reference regarding me, but I am not going to add any light to that as people will say I am bragging. I referred to company while Elvis was at the Piano.
Now, 'Cilla is correct, Elvis loved to be dressy before dressy ever was an affordable gift to him. He did well at what he had.. I don't really call silk black PJ's and a velour robe dressing up...but then she wasn't there.
Fact of the matter is, she wasn't there a lot, and visa versa.
Remember friends, all Elvis people, imcluding his ex wife, recall as they can. Some is true and some is not. Some are intentional add-libs and some are honest mis-quotes.

It also depends on the venue, and had little if anything to do with The Colonel.
Some venues didn't mind flash cameras, others objected.
In any case, it made no difference at all as the flashbulbs popped every time. How could you stop them?

Those were the days before Ticketmaster so since I live just 40 miles away from Champaign, I camped out all night the night before tickets were to go on sale at the Assembly Hall. Got second row tickets and it was a blast. Took real good pictures at this concert.
With going to the many concerts that I had, at this time in Elvis' life, a fan like myself never knew what Elvis was going to look like and I mean in weight or looking bloated. Its amazing how from just a couple of months apart from seeing him, how he changed from bloated looking to almost being thin. In Champaign, he looked great.
When in second row, it's like he is looking right at you even though with the bright lights he probably isn't seeing the crowd to well. I was a stupid young kid at the time and my favorite song was Burning Love. He was not normally singing that during the latter concert tours but when things got a little quiet during the concert between songs, I yelled out, "do Burning Love". He looked down and said, "I'll do it a little later". Of course he never did but hey, I can say I had a conversation with Elvis.

I had posted this on another Elvis forum but on this topic of seeing Elvis live, I enjoy thinking about the times I was in Vegas as a teenager and the adventures I had. I actually saw Elvis backstage in Vegas. I know that it sounds nerdy at the time of 1972but I was a junior in high school and I had an outfit that looked like a poor mans Elvis outfit. Before kareoke, I was singing over Elvis records and recording them on a reel to reel tape. I look back at pictures of me with a scarf and outfit on pretending to be Elvis and laugh. My grandmother crocheted a belt that hung down to the floor with a white and purple striped shirt and pants that matched. I actually wore that outfit in Las Vegas in the casino and around the International Hotel.
There was a sign out front the showroom entrance that rehearsals were going on, so it said "Keep Out". That sign did the reverse, it made me think, how could I get in to see this reheasal?
I walked through a door that said employees only off the casino floor.
Now I was 17 years old and was nervous about doing this. I walked and walked. Through the kitchen, I kept walking and no-one stopped me. I walked through the employees lounge and down long hallways, and no-one stopped me. I walked past the security desk with security guards standing there talking with each other and no-one stopped me.
All of a sudden, I heard the music. I followed that sound till it became louder and louder. I opened a door and I could not believe it. I was under the stage where Elvis was. I had never heard him sing this song live on stage but he was singing the song, "True Love Travels On A Gravel Road". Under the stage were the dressing rooms. I saw the sign on the door, The Stamps Quartet. Of course I had to walk in. It was a small room, I couldn't imagine all the guys dressing in this room. So I went further and I couldn't believe my eyes. This next door I came to had a sign that said, "ELVIS PRESLEY". I nervously opened the door (all the while hearing the rehearsal above me). There it was. The big mirror with lights all around it. A closet that had two beautiful jumpsuits in it. I sat in Elvis' chair. It was a thrill. So I then decided to go upstairs.
There I was backstage. Elvis at times was no farther than 6 feet away. Elvis' laughter and music was surrounding me. Glen D Hardin's back was to me as I was just off stage. I was worried that I was going to be ushered away not authorized to be there so I thought real quick and started to move lots of chairs that were stacked up by me so it looked like I was working there. I wanted to stay as long as I could. I heard Elvis stop everything and said that he wanted to hear JD Sumner and the Stamps sing "Sweet, Sweet Spirit". It was silent for just a second and then the most beautiful version of "Sweet, Sweet Spirit" I ever heard was sung and Elvis joined in on the last part. It was overwhelming.
Then it was over and people started moving around and I thought I might be caught. Elvis started to walk right towards me. I could have reached out and touched him as he walked by and he had the TV actress Peggy Lipton on his arm. He walked behind the curtain where I saw him get into the elevator to take him to the top floor.
Thanks for letting me share my memories. I came back and saw him again backstage and if you want to hear more of my experience, please let me know.

Sadly I never got to see Elvis live. I was born in 1975 and one of my first memories is his death. I immediately started asking my mom about Elvis and she started buying me albums and me being a fan has continued to this day.
Anyway I've got several friends who saw Elvis live and of course I've asked them about the concerts. One friend said he was a kid about 18 or 19 and was working at a country radio station in Charlotte. He said the new single was "Hurt" so I'm guessing this was 1976. He said he didn't care about going because he didn't like country music and he didn't really like Elvis very much.
He said though when the concert started and Elvis came out it was unlike anything he had ever seen. He said Elvis was heavy but it really didn't matter because he was just so good. Apparently he did "Hurt" two times on this night. Obviously we know Elvis did that a lot. He said that to this day it was by far the best concert he has ever seen and it changed the way he thought about music forever.

Well since I had posted my experiences before on another forum, I might as well post it here. I love sharing my stories and it takes me back and I can relive them again. Hope you enjoy reading my memories.
I will tell you about the very next day and what happened.
Well my family normally came out to Vegas on the idea of seeing Elvis at least two nights sometimes three. So the next day I was planning out the day while eating breakfast at the International Hotel cafe. I looked over and saw James Burton and Glen D Hardin a couple tables over. I went over and introduced myself and they were kind and invited me to sit with them. We had a great conversation talking about their careers and I brought up memories of seeing James Burton playing guitar behind Ricky Nelson on an episode of Ozzie and Harriett. Now I was just 17 years old and yet they asked me to join them as they were going to a grocery store to buy some things. I should have but didn't. Stupid me!
Later in the day, after such a great experience getting backstage the day before, I had to see if I could do it again. So sure enough, that sign was in front of the showroom again. "KEEP OUT" which obviously means to an Elvis fan, "GO IN".
So I go through the same doors and walked the same corridors. I was so nervous about going by the security desk again but this time there was no-one there. Again I start hearing the music. This time they were working on "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling". I was under the stage again and could hear it well. Elvis stopped the band a few times on the song where he wanted Ronnie Tutt to watch his movements and he wanted a hard beat at a certain time.
I went now backstage. Again I was paranoid about getting caught. I actually thought for a moment to take the elevator to Elvis' floor and snoop around. I got in the elevator backstage because the door was open. It had only one floor button to push and that was the top floor. I chickened out and left the elevator. This time I decided to get back to looking like I belonged there and picked up a 3 ft round table that was near the elevator and carried it towards the side backstage where Glen D Hardin was playing on stage. I was trying to get his attention, figuring that he would remember having breakfast with me and allow me to stay. Everytime Glen would turn his head, I would make a movement to catch his eye but I was afraid at the same time that I would catch Elvis' eye or one of the Mafia.
The rehearsal was over with Elvis goofing around with "I Got My Mojo Working". He left the stage laughing, again with him at just an arms distance. I have to say that Peggy Lipton looked pretty good then as well. After moving a few more chairs around, everyone was soon gone.
I actually went on stage and looked at the songbooks on Glen's piano. I had a flashing thought of taking it but then I thought after being so nice to me, that would be a bad thing to do for them. I went over to the music stand on center stage that Elvis had been using to flip through the papers on there. I couldn't help it but I did take the guitar pick that was laying on his stand. I figured Elvis probably could afford to get more if he needed to (lol).
Looking out at the showroom was awesome as I stood centerstage. Even though no-one was in there at that time, I was overwhelmed by just imagining Elvis right here entertaining a packed house.

If cameras were prohibited in Vegas, why do pictures of some shows exist?? Did these people who took the photos take them without somehow getting caught??

SP....I have pics in the gallery of opening night, 08/04/1972. I didn't take them, but a girl a couple of seats behind me did. She had an Instamatic camera with no flash, so it's amazing that they turned out as well as they did. Go look at the pics, he looks great in the 2 piece white suit!(y)

You should have asked him about his RINGS,
OR for that JUKE BOX, ELVIS WAS LEANING AGAINST,
would be worth a fortune now...
I asked him about his Silver Claw (with Turquiose) Necklace,
but I think he had only just got it.
He did show me how it Clanked against his Chest though,
Impressed the Girls I can tell you for sure...

Hi Chuck
sorry about being so flipant in my post earlier, it was your Cadillac
comment, just struck a chord with me, -when Tom Diskin took me back
stage on the 4th September 1972 he said to ask Elvis about his
Jewellery, at the time I didn't think about the possibility he might give
it to me, it's only years later, I get what Tom was thinking.
(that was good of him- I guess)
I didn't fully register your name this morning. But its sunk in now..
I subscribe to ELVIS THE MAN AND HIS MUSIC, Its a great magazine
and your article is of the same standard as many others that Trevor
and Company have been doing for some years now.
In their 9th Issue I think it was (over 10 years ago now), they interviewed George Klien who said he got his WINK film when they made -This is Elvis
- so does that mean he got it indirectly from you?
Also in the same interview, he says thats how Wink got his copy from
George Klien !? - the only thing is WINK said in a different interview that
he gave his copy to George, but didn't get all of it back.
Would you know which is true?? I think THIS IS ELVIS was 1980 ish.
Which brings me to my adventure with a Wink Martindale dance party
film. in the Mid 70s (long before This is Elvis) an English friend who used
to live in Newcastle (strangely close to the NOW DIG THIS/MAN AND HIS
MUSIC PEOPLE) Went with his family to Live in Virginia Beach, and started
an Mechanical Drawing Business, mostly working for the US Navy.
While settling in the USA he became a big film collector, getting all 32
of Elvis' Hollywood films on 16mm. About the same time I was collecting
all the NBC out-takes (the 4 complete shows, and all the takes of the
production songs, like the 27 takes of Guitar man) I managed to have
NEGATIVE 16MM films duplicated, with Magnetic Reels of the sound,
and then 16mm Optical sound release prints made of the 8 hours, plus Elvis'
Aloha Rehearsal on 16mm with the Negs and Mag tracks, and also later
the same on the Elvis CBS Special, some I later did COLOUR CORRECTED
PRINTS, a little nicer than the Release prints.
So I used to trade an Hour of NBC 68 special for 3 Elvis 16mm features
with this English Friend living in the States. - I can't remember how I
came to get the WINK MARTINDALE 16MM film, but it was around the
start on 1978, so not from a THIS IS ELVIS source.
I actually don't have the film, due to the USA customs wanting to view
it on a trip to New York, I only spent 48 hours in NY and so on another
trip 2 months later, I had to go and look for it at US customs, they still
hadn't looked at it, but in the end gave it back to me, as long as I agreed
to take it back to England on my flight the next day. - Well I still sent
it to my friend in Virginia Beach, and then lost contact with him over the
years. I've been trying recently to make contact, no luck so far, but
I haven't given up hope.
It would be wonderful if you decided to Release it on DVD along with the
Elvis talk with Sam Phillips, that must be so unique. I'm sure lots of
Elvis fans will be very interested in collecting it.
I have many interesting films in my own collection, which you might find
of interest....
26 seconds of FULL TRUE COLOUR from Tupelo Sept 1957,(same clips
that you see in BW all the time including This is Elvis, only in TRUE COLOUR
(This came from a TV Projectionest at a through the night Elvis party in London, just over 40 years ago, it didn't make it back to TV land, as he
accepted my offer) This isn't in the MEMPHIS RECORDING SERVICE
"TUPELO DVD/BOOK" from just over a year ago. SHOULD HAVE BEEN I GUESS.
ELVIS IN PARIS in 1959 at the George the 5th Hotel, Inside hotel interview
and outside silent interview by the Hotels Fountain.
I have 16mm prints from early to mid 70s of the 3 Ed Sullivan Shows,
Steve Allen including comedy sketch, and the 5 and 6th Dorsey on 16mm
Press conferences in 16mm from NYork '72 ~ Houston 1970,
press announcement, trailer number 3 from NBC for Aloha, at the Hilton
on the 5th September 1972.
26 of the Hollywood movies in 16mm.
2 versions of the Hawaii 14th Jan 73, orig 60 minute broadcast and
the extended Ann Margret hosted version.
I personally took 26 hours of Super 8mm in Vegas 72-73 and following
tours in 1974, 1976 and 1977.
Some candid footage in memphis 76, Philly 74, Buffalo-Niagra Falls '74
Bloomington 74. - also from a direct source different film from the
NY PRESS CONF., SOME Mad.Sq Garden Live. and backstage MSG.
From another source the origional film in Super 8mm from the last 2
Elvis concerts in June 1977.
Have a lot of newsreels in 16mm Pathe and AP, from Germany and arriving
back in the USA 1960- and Elvis Wedding BW in 16mm.
Also the complete 1960 Graceland Interview in 16mm (Elvis' return home)
I guess you know that 2 of the people from MAN AND HIS MUSIC, are
often on the Messageboard Forum ELVIS THE KINGS COURT from
Worcester in England??
When in Memphis in March 1976, I phoned Sam Phillips in Alabama at one
of his other radio Stations. I had 2 special Elvis Mirrors with the Sun
Design worked into them, behind a 50s Elvis Live pose. The previous day
I had sat with Vernon Presley and given him one of these mirrors.
So on telling SAM about it, he sent his son around to see me..
As soon as he saw it, he got his Dad on the phone again to tell him all
about it, so I got to speak to him again, he was so polite and nice to me
-It was just a gift, the reward was just to get to say a few words to each
other, and I would never get another chance as it happens.
Such is life. -
Sorry to ramble on to you, thanks for taking the time out to share your
memories, from behind the camera with the MAN AND MUSIC Magazine
-I wish you the very best on your future Elvis Venture, I for one am
very much looking forward to it (Wow SAM AND ELVIS TOGETHER ON A FILM)

Rex, the FILM - the SOF - of Elvis on Dance Party was shot by a cameraman that Wink hired. I shot still photos, and those are the ones on my web site. I was a TV cameraman that worked at the station and happened to bring my Roliflex that day.
The footage I shot at Sam Phillips' house was Tri-X negative and had no sound track. But I do have footage of Elvis and Sam, arguing about Rock and Roll out by the pool at sunup on Easter Sunday morning in 1957.
I also have footage of George Klein and others hanging out at WHBQ while Dewey is on the air. George never saw the footage.
Wow, you've got a lot of Elvis history behind you!
It's bedtime for my granddaughter, so got to go...
