Question about the song Memphis

Hi everyone

I've heard the 1964 version of Memphis but have never heard the 1963 version and have been told by some people that the 1963 version is better.

is that true?

I would like to know what the difference between the 1963 and 1964 versions of Memphis are.

I can't speak for everybody here on TCB World,Brian but I like the version off of the Elvis For Everyone album.I see that the song was first recorded on May of '63 but not released til Jan.'64 and it's the 1963 version on the Elvis For Everyone LP

The versions do sound a bit diff'rent but come very close actually.

Both can be found on one of the latest FTD releases: Elvis Sings Memphis Tennessee.

The only difference I noticed was the '63 version was a faster tempo, but not so much that it made a major difference. They're really about the same.

I like the faster tempo of the song

If Elvis had released a version of Memphis with a fast tempo like this in 1963 it could've been a #1 hit. sadly that did not happen

I think it's the 64 version

when Elvis label does mainstream releases and the song Memphis is on them it's almost always the 1964 version.

Thanks! Brian.I'll have to give both versions a listen too.I do believe Elvis would have another hit with releasing the song but it's too darn bad,that Johnny Rivers pulled the rug from underneath Elvis.
