Got my copy today.

On the face of it, it is superb. Great packaging and fantastic pictures.

The CDs alone are worth the price.

The booklet is excellent, with a lot of rare pics. None of the pics are back-to-front (for once!) and all pics are credited to the correct shows.

A few faults though: a few punctuation errors and typos in the booklet, and no sound on the after-show party footage from August 10th (previously available with sound).

A pity the CDs aren't in stereo. Still, it's great to hear the complete shows from August 1970 (I mean every second), something we've never had before.

And the DVD menu function is weird: you can't easily access individual songs from each show, you have to scroll via the main menu.

Quibbles aside, this is the release of the year, decade, millennium,

Buy a copy if you can afford it.

And if you can't ... get a copy anyway. (y)(y)(y)

Great review, Getlo! I will be getting this new set on Monday. Can't wait!

Let us know what you think, TT.

One more quibble ... on closer inspection, there are a few seconds here and there where the wrong footage is used in some shows (ie different suits). But it's only, as I said, a few seconds and most of the footage is from a far distance.

Also, the bonus footage (August 14th) shows three different suits.

Having said all that, the set overall is brilliant ... what an editing job! Such efforts must be applauded.

Those of you who have copies of the old 11-disc or 30-disc version of this stuff with all the beeps and moans, silent bits and green screens ... you can now throw them out as this set covers everything that's available right now.

I had DVD-R's of most of this footage until yesterday ... then they went in the bin!

Hey Getlo...how's things?
Although I have no reason to doubt this was the amount of pressings, it just seems weird that 41 people on the FECC board have said they have it, that makes up 4% of the whole lot....that just makes me think there were more than 999....

You'll have to trust me on this; I know one or two of the people involved and there were only 999 copies made.

I imagine it was production costs that prevented any more from being done. That said, at AUST$400 or so a pop, the producers will surely make a healthy profit.

As for FECC, it is not surprising that so many over there would have it, or at least claim to. After all, it is the For Elvis CD Collectors forum.

I've just watched the rehearsals from August 4th (black and white flowery-pattern shirt).

All I can say is: WOW!

For this alone, it's worth the price. Absolutely.

I've had this on audio for many years, and each time I heard it - along with everything else from TTWII - I always reminded my self that the stuff also exists on film.

Now it's there. Amazing stuff.

So tonight, I am cracking open one or seven beers, and watching my all time favourite show ... August 12th, midnight.

TTWII – INTERNATIONAL BOX SET
The BOOK (review) by Rex Martin ..........from the files of: the '70s WORLDWIDE ELVIS NEWS SERVICE WEEKLY

11.25”x 6” Hardback (front and back) glossy picture cover, that fits perfectly in the Box the stem is the Top Half of the titling. (the DVD~CD single, then twin fold out package Stem is Lower Half of title)
A 128 pages of Text and Pictures compliment the Audio~Video.

The DVD of Rehearsals fits inside the cover of this Book(the 9th Disc)
The Foreward gives a history about the making of the orig: film
Background to sorting out the special edition, with a lot about the Lost Out-takes the different ways it was planned to all be put out in projects to Elvis Fans, and the scrapping of those plans.

Next almost a page on each CD~DVD giving Numbered Song/Track listing, times and dates for each show. (you’ll have to add in the Jumpsuit Type ~ Style yourself, from viewing each disc.)

Page 20 onwards Background text to International Hotel, Las Vegas etc., with pictures and documents, contracts, etc., always interesting to be able to read this history of the Event. Includes an Elvis Diary of Events leading up to the Rehearsals.

Page 46 onwards, Pictures –On and Off stage for the Rehearsals, many very nice Elvis Poses, most not previously seen, with some brief text commenting on the way some of the recordings developed.

Page 68 six pages on the Colonels and International Promotion for the Vegas Season event, many nicely photographed souvenirs shown, and press releases with some Internal Hotel documentation.

Page 74 to final page. Each show documented with Pictures of the Jumpsuit Elvis wore at each of the filmed MGM shows. About 50% of the pictures are new, others in magazines and Film Promotion Stills, some from the USA promotion and others from GB and various Europe countries, including the very fine French~Belgium Stills, and a set from Germany. (It is missing anything from the Japanese Film and Very Different ~ now deleted TTWII books & poster promotions) Still many great pictures in good quality, interspersed with more previously unseen documentation and some USA trade paper reviews. –

A GREAT PHOTO BOOK, and INFORMATION REFERENCE for the CD Audio and DVD visuals !!!

First DVD show (1) REVIEW part “1” by REX MARTIN

Opening screen is the front box with all the show screens, dated and moving.....(you can pick to dip into any date, dinner or midnight, or just view all. I'm zoom cropping the left and right slightly to make a bigger overall picture. (can pick any percentage to crop – the quality is still very viewable)

I'm not going to talk about every song, everyone must have seen some version of a large percentage of this from a few years ago, or the much improved STAR Version issued recently.

A lot of Elvis walking down International corridors, getting in Lifts and meeting 2 fans, in the Blue Jumpsuit (Suit not ever seen on Stage) a well blended film, from Turner and the 2 official Editions.

Lounge reading telegrams again mixed Turner and Sp. Editions. Much new, a lot of Buddy Chat with Elvis trying to keep him calm. Cuts to in the Fringe suit, then just back of stage, very extended mix from 3 sources.

10th August ~ Dinner Show (White Fringe, multi coloured beads Jumpsuit)
The on stage, first triple screen footage, main view at the top, with the 2 alternative screen directly under this. Not distracting at all, you're eyes just roll around the screen taking in all the 3 cameras at once.

To add to this extra dimension the Sound is just 100% wonderful. I'm watching it 7.1 Dolby with 2 extra side fill in speakers (Ten in All.) on a 42” screen today. Its just perfect sound, a very pleasing experience..
Mystery Train has 3 Turner Screens shown at once (no Sp.Edition), the picture is a little grainier and not as crisp, but its still very watchable. Especially with the great sound... Unusual to have this as 2nd song, with Elvis removing Guitar just before Strobe lights in the middle..

LMT start with itty-bitty little guitar, 2 images on 3 screens. All Turner.

WORDS and SOMETHING version this show, is outstanding sound wise from Elvis, very well performed...

Still no full length Hip movement camera shot of You've lost that Loving Feeling. Just single camera close up shown this show .

You don't have to say, is Triple images, starts showing 2 cameras then later 3. Polk Salad the same also..

The way the top screen is – being about 60% of the depth, probably helps this look better than previous versions on the Turner sequences, its still not special edition quality, but they always said not to expect that. Also it is true, its far better than the previous versions .

~ up to CHFILove, lasts 55 minutes.

A lot of backstage after show footage, with Elvis' song OUR DANCE and LIFE playing. (Black jumpsuit) Best I've ever seen this. Much brighter, than in Special Editions and full widescreen not divided screens.

11th August: Dinner show. White Jumpsuit, Silver conchos, long tassle belt.
( starts exactly 60 minutes into this DVD)
MGM and Special edition used a lot of the songs from this show, which has been blended together with the song takes they didn't use.

OVER ALL THIS IS WORTH BUYING ~ If you can still get a copy...... Rex
