Which Elvis songs, if released now, do you think would make #1 or chart highly?
I think that You'll Think of Me would do well, as would alot of others from the 1969 sessions.
Here in the UK theres a bit of a revival in songs with a 60s sounds, so i think those session would do well.
What do you think?

I agree not every song would go to number 1, but here in the UK they released all Elvis' previous number ones and all went into the top 5, some even to number 1. I know this is thanks to that fans more than anything but A little less conversation when to number 1, Rubbernecking number 5 and i even think My baby left me got into the charts in 2006.
And after all a good song is a good song even if its 40 years old.

no songs of Elvis would get to #1 in the U.S. for 2 reasons
1.Music styles has changed a lot since Elvis and his music isn't contemporary sounding
2. In the U.S. the hot 100 singles chart depends a lot on radio play and a singles chart success depends on whether it gets a lot of play.
In 2002 in the U.K. Little Less Conversation hit #1 while it didn't do very well at all in the U.S.

It did hit #1 on the sales chart-but not #1 on the chart which includes radio play. Many stations would not play it-although in St Louis it did get airplay on contemporary stations and it was requested according to my 23 year old daughter. ALLC did go gold in the US so sales were good in the US.
I got this info at the Official RIAA site:
Artist
PRESLEY, ELVIS Title
A LITTLE LESS CONVERSATION Certification Date
03/31/2006 Label
RCA
Award Description
GOLD Format
SINGLE Category
SOLO Type
DI
It would be hard to hit with many of the Elvis songs of the past-especially in the US. The times have changed youth are much much more fickle it seems to me-everything must change quickly-like MTV fast cut videos.
The fact that he still sells albums well (compared to most artists who were huge in the 50s and 60s)is a tribute to him. IMO

that's what I'm saying
In the U.S. if it doesn't hit #1 on the chart that includes radio play it isn't counted as a #1
That's all right and Rubberneckin also hit #1 on the sales chart but are not counted as #1's

It is a strange thing to me that ALLC can hit #1 on the sales chart for a couple weeks in a row-eventually go gold and still not be considered an official #1.
