Nowdays we all know about Elvis' bad overdose just a few days after his divorce from Priscilla was finalized.....this is from the Dallas paper that same week.:supriced: Of course I rushed out and sent him a card, and a couple of weeks later I got a thank-you note!

Why on earth are you blaming the media here?
Who do you think told them about the "pneumonia"?
Elvis' camp, that's who! They are the liars in this case, not the newspaper.

I'm going to post this and ya'll will probably boot me off the forum, but here goes
1. There is a possibility there was some truth to the pneumonia story. If he aspirated during the overdose, it could have turned to pneumonia.
2. Why do "we" have to know the truth? Who are "we"? So "we" bought tickets and albums, did that entitle us to his life and his soul? Frankly, it was none of our business. Maybe we should start a thread called "all our faults and problems" and see how we like having our lives discussed to pieces. Let's get those divorces and affairs up there for everyone to see.
3. "We" complain about the press harping on his drug use and not his musical abilities or his talents and "we" bring the drug subject up just as much as they do. If we can't let it go (and we claim to love him) how do we expect the press(who could care less about him) to let it go. Seems "we" are as guilty as everyone else.

I agree with what you said CRITTERGITTER but the thread was not meant to bring up Elvis' drug use. It was just a newspaper article that Rosanne was nice enough to share. It just shows us how the media covered Elvis' life when he was alive. We just made some light hearted humor about the whole thing but some people decided to come on and turn into a serious issue.
Some of us just enjoy being on with our friends and we try to give each other something to smile about!;)

I was really enjoying these last few threads that Rosanne was putting on about old Elvis articles and things from the seventies. I thought it was finally a break from some of the serious stuff that was going on here lately. But I guess I was wrong.
Sorry, if you are referring to me and Elvis' drug abuse making me smile then you are wrong. I never dwell on his few faults, everyone of us have faults of our own. There is nobody who can tell me all the good he did in his life. I know all about his good looks, his voice, his smile, his hair and yes, even his butt. Elvis means the world to me and he has all my life. I would stand up to anyone to defend him. I would never ever want anyone to think that I would do anything to hurt him or his memory. Elvis is a part of who I am and I am one of his biggest most loyal fans.

We are talking about the people who run Elvis down. The threads I'm thinking of, are the disrespectful threads, not this one. I love Elvis, I am here only, because of him, and I'd like to say, that *ed at times I feel the same, and don't want to be hereb. I stay as I have to be close. I wish Elvis was here, talking to me, lol, or someone like him, hehe. I postb because you said it helped you. I agree with what has been said; however, there are so many good people here too, and like anywhere, there are going to be those who are jealous of him. Quite frankly, some threads should be removed from this site, and/or not allowed.
Rosanne, you honour Elvis in your own way, and I respect you for that. I also laugh at your sense of humour, and we play off each other's sense of humour at times, and it is fun.

That is censorship.
As has been discussed countless times here: if you don't like the subject of a thread, or a particular tangent a discussion takes, don't post on it.
Discussing, referring to, mentioning or otherwise connecting to Elvis' drug habits or other excessive behaviours in no way contravenes any of the rules of this forum.
And that is the truth.

This is unbelievable! She posted the article to show what kind of things we read back when he was here and how things were reported. We've been ridiculed for wearing rose colored glasses and now she's disrespectful because she posted the article and said that. If we say we didn't believe the drug use was as bad as people say now - we're bascially called stupid. And, now this article posted means she's bringing up the drug use. You just can't win on here, can you?
And, by the way, just for the record, Rosanne nor I believe there is any humor in the drug issues he had. But, for me, and I think Rosanne, there is some humor in how so many believe what an arse he was and how great the MM have become in the past 32 years! I wonder if Elvis realized then he was walking among such strong and admirable men back in the day!!!

I somehow agree with CRITTERGITTER, you said it very well, we all have personal problems and dark secrets... And nobody would be glad if the whole world would know it. And you're right, buying the tickets, albums, DVDs don't entitle us to his life and his soul. But I think Elvis was the one who put his soul, his heart and his life into the songs. There are many songs what really make me feel that he sang about himself. But Rosanne just shared an article, that's all. And I'm very glad she shares her wonderful memories here, because I can know more about the time when I wasn't even born. Keep them coming Rosanne!! (y) (y) (y) :notworthy :notworthy :notworthy

It all depends on perspective. Some might thing OMGosh an overdose!!!! As serious as it is, people with drug problems live on the edge of that daily. Having a drug problem does not make him a horrible person. So I say so what. It happens. Sad but true.
And I don't blame anyone for protecting him. Last thing he needed was the media hounding him. The media can be like Vultures and rip people to shreds with any little morsel they can get their hands on.
I personally feel that celebrities owe the public nothing when it comes to the truth.
