I've heard this song recently and I don't understand why fans hate this song so much to me it's an all right uptempo song.
it's not the best Leiber and Stoller song ever but it's certainly not the worst either.
I think Leiber and Stoller's Don't come Back and Girl of mine were the worst songs from the 73 sessions
Life and Heart of Rome are the worst songs from the 70's imo
I think three corn patches is actually a pleasant little song
not a song with hit potential by any means but it served it's purpose as okay album filler.
Does anybody else here like the song three corn patches?

WHEN I FIRST HEARD THIS SONG I DIDN'T LIKE IT MUCH. BUT AS I LISTENED MORE I CHANGED MY OPINION. I THINK IT HAS A GOOD BEAT TO IT. THE LYRICS MAY NOT BE THE BEST EVER BUT I LIKE THE SOUND OF THE SONG. I REALLY LIKE THE RAISED ON ROCK ALBUM MY FAVOURITES BEING SWEET ANGELINE AND I MISS YOU, BOTH BEAUTIFUL BALLADS. I GUESS ELVIS WAS IN THE MOOD TO RECORD BALLADS AT THIS SESSION.

I like the Three Corn Patches version on Rhythm and Country vol.5, and Girl Of Mine is one of my favorite Elvis' songs.

How different we all are. If u don't come back is one of my favourite elvis 70's songs. Love the drums, bass and funky wah wah guitar plus the soulful backing vocals. Not sure if elvis wanted that laid back vibe on lead vocal or if he just wasn't in the mood that day. Either way great final product.
Three corn patches sucks!

I like the tune, but Elvis' voice is not as its fullest in my opinion.
I can't believe it -you and I actually agree on this!
I have always liked "Three Corn Patches" its a great song to jam to and when my brothers and old musical buddies get together for a jam-we can go an hour on that song. Just a good old rock song which moves and is easy to like IMO

It's probably his worst `rocker' from the 70s but better than some of the dull ballads

It wouldn`t make it into my top twenty...but I do quite like the song..good rhythm to it. I think I actually prefer the song "If you don`t come back".... especially in the form that it appeared in on "Rhythm and country".

It's not a bad song. Kinda bluesy. But Elvis sounded uninspired on that song as well as the whole Raised On Rock album.

"If You Don't Comeback" is a great track to me, a favorite to me from the first Stax Sessions, along with "Got a Thing About You Baby", "Find Out What's Happening" and "Just a Little Bit", not Elvis best work in his whole career, , but a nice funky vibe on IYDC, Got a Thing is just smooth, and great guitar stuff on the last two. In fact I like James Burton work much more in Stax '73 than in Nasville '70 and '71.
Three Corn Patches, lyrics might have been acceptable back in '60, ridiculous for '73, anyhow, the music itself could have been an acceptable rocker if both Elvis and the band would delivered a more energetic performance, but Elvis vocals sounds like he is laying in his bed talking half sleep or mumbling while chilling out watching a boring tv show, the band is just sleepwalking through it.
NO I DIDNīT LIKED THREE CORN PATCHES, but is more about in terms of performance that the song itself.

You really do want to create excitement. I doubt that Elvis recorded in bed for this session. I do not recall anyone ever mentioning in any book I've read they rolled in a bed into a legitimate recording studio and Elvis recorded lying down. I also do not recall any interview where someone says this.

Sure thing, or maybe they bring a bathtub into the studio and Elvis wanted to sound awful ducking on it just for kicks! yes sir, yes sir!

When Elvis by the Presley's was released in 2005
Indescribly blue was one of the songs on the cd
some fan on the Fecc forum mentioned Elvis recorded a demo or a few takes of indescribly blue in bed.

There is all kinds of stories about Elvis you just have to know where to look.

There may be all kinds of stories about all kinds of things-but discerning what should be repeated and what is not worthy of repeating because it is probably baseless is the trick.

This song was probably upsetting to people that had watermelon patches. I mean, Elvis sang about corn fields and cotton patches, so why not watermelon patches? It's a good thing this didn't cause rioting by those poor 'ole farmers.;):lol::lol::lol::lol:

I don't see the big deal in mentioning it

Sorry to go off topic but i think it was in Jery Schilling book that he said Indescibably Blue was recorded by Elvis sitting on his bed in a hotel room after he had calmed down from walking out of the recording session.

It is not about believing in you or not, its about there is a big distance between Elvis recording a demo or making a vocal overdub in an hotel room, siting on the side of a bed, and to imply Elvis voice sounds tired and uninspired because in fact he was recording lying in bed.
Three Corn Patches was recorded at the vocals booth at Stax Studios, and thats all to it. I was just being metaphorical (do I really have to explain it) meaning he sounded lazy performing that song. Indescribably Blue vocals might have been or not recorded in a hotel room, and that has anything to do with his performance, which does sounds Indescribably superb by the way.

I know you were being metaphorical about Elvis recording three corn patches and making the comment about Elvis recording it as if he was watching a boring t.v. show. you saying that reminded me of the story of Elvis recording indescribably blue while lying in bad
Elvis was just in bad voice during the entire july 73 stax sessions
I wasn't implying or saying anything negative about the vocals on indescribably blue just telling the story about it being recorded in bed.
To me the vocals on the song sound good.
Ken and Roseanne didn't believe the story about indescribably blue
It seems they never believe me even though you can take what I say to the bank.

Your implication was that Elvis went into a studio-a bed was rolled in and then he made recordings. You are correct you never said the story was true-then why mention it? To what purpose? To what end? If it is wrong-you help spread a wrong notion-is that your intent?
There are thousands of stories and rumors on thousands of subjects which hvae no basis in fact or a small nugget of info-which then is expanded into "A story". I recall the story recently quoted here about Graceland closing to become the Obama Camp David-it had no basis in fact-the author of the story even said so-he ran a company which booked trips to Memphis and probably thought the story would help book trips> But the point is it had no basis in fact.
As far as taking "Your opinions to the bank" your opinions belong in your bank-because they are your opinions. So by all means bank them as your opinions.
That does not make them bankable anywhere else-nor coin of the realm.

Absolutley true-the difference is in the implication of the bed story-which sounds like a bed of some type was used in an actual professional recording studio and that final product was finished in such fashion in the professional studio. This was not the case.(y)

I have read this same story in Jerry's book. However, Brian's version of Elvis 'lying in bed' is again way off base and quite misleading and far from the truth. Apparently he sent Red to the recording session. When Red returned, he had with him a portable recorder with Red's scratch vocals as a guide. Elvis was so pleased with Red's results that he overdubbed the song into the portable recorder while sitting up in the bed in the hotel room. Jerry even goes as far as describing him sitting straight up with his back against the headboard, with his legs crossed, Indian-style (can you say there here "Indian", without having a riot, right?), so that the reader could get an idea of how Elvis overdubbed this song, "Undescribably Blue".
Maybe its me, but there is a big difference in "lying in bed recording a song" and overdubbing a song on a portable recorder while sitting in bed. And its not sematics. It's a completely different set of circumstances.
Brian, we must watch what we say around here. Before long, no one is going to take you seriously anymore.

In Elvis Day By Day page 218- it states that Red West did take his vocals to the songs "Indescribably Blue" "Ill Remember You" and "If Every Day was Like Christmas" to Elvis in a motel on Saturday June 11th 1966-and it says Elvis went to the recording studio on Sunday June 12th 1966 and he spent half an hour recording his vocals for the songs in the studio.
