Now that's interesting. I see Bill Black and Scotty Moore with him, so there's the timeline. I hope someone answers this one. I'm curious now.

The one gentleman in the photo appears to be a state trooper. As we all know, Elvis was quite interested in law enforcement. My best guess is he talked the trooper into letting him hold his gun for the photo. Obviously not the best decision the officer made in his career, but hey times were quite different and a tad bit more inocent back then.

I'm a police detective, you'd be surprised the interest people take in your weapon, it's quite a people magnet. And NO, I never handed over my gun to anybody.

No doubt in my mind that this is the correct answer. Things were much more lax then as crime wasn't as prevalent as it is today but I agree that the trooper didn't exercise the best judgment.

If my memory serves me correctly that photo was in the book titled "In The Beat Of The Night".Elvis is holding a gun.He is sitting with a law enforcement official who handed his sidearm over to him to examine. The book is a great read by the way.

I agree with your version. It makes sense! Celebrities can get away
with a lot of stupid stuff, it seems.

In the principal photo is Elvis at truck stop in Dermott, Arkansas, on march 25 1955 before his show at Dermott High School Auditorium.
Source: “Memphis Recording Service – The Rise of Elvis Presley vol. II, 1955”, page 68, Joseph Pirzada, 2006 (book+DVD+vinyl).

Here is another picture of Elvis with a gun in 1956. Note that Elvis has mustache. Is a rare picture of a teenage elvis :supriced:

Didn't he have a gun as a stage prop that he would carry around to scare people as a joke?

This picture was taken after that incident with Pvt.Hershel Nixon in 1957.Where Elvis pulled a "prop" gun out on Pvt.Nixon.
