I was quite surprised this evening when Joe Esposito turned up on a talk show on Irish tv station RTE 1....Apparently he is in Dublin for an Elvis weekend "event".The interview was quite short, and not exactly groundbreaking news...but ruined by the appearance of some absolutely dreadful ETA people.....but I won`t go into a moan about that!....
Some of the more interesting bits......
He blamed the "Elvis-What happened?" book for most of the depression that Elvis was suffering at the time of his death and said that, when it came out,Elvis spoke of little else each night.
He also stated that touring outside of the U.S was not down to anything to do with the Colonel, but rather on the unavailability of big venues...and that Elvis told the Colonel quite early in his career that he had no wish to play outdoor concerts because of the sound problems that went with it.
The rest of the interview consisted mainly of the tales of Elvis` generosity....giving away rings and cars.... along with some fairly cheesy attempts at flattering the two lady presenters!
I`m not sure if the shows are archived or anything...not sure if it would really be worth the search either!......for the curious and interested have a look on rte.ie.....the name of the show is "Seoige"......
Not to be harping on about it or anything but I felt really embarrassed as an Elvis fan when those ETA guys showed up....I actually left the room before they had murdered "The Wonder Of You"....the interview in itself was brief and unchallenging...but it did leave some nice positives about Elvis and the man that he was....... Why does Joe continue to seemingly endorse this kind of rubbish?....It makes Elvis a laughing stock.
