Elvis has so many fans and others see us as being the same "crazed" kind of people whereas we are all individuals, so my question to you all is how would you describe yourself as being an Elvis "fan", how do you see/feel about him?

This is me and my own opinion which represents only me:

I don't class myself as being a "fan" cos to me that includes being interested in Elvis the image too and I'm not. I would call myself an appreciator of his voice cos that's what drew me to him in the first place. If I had been able to go see him live in concert I would be in the front row totally lost in his voice, no screaming or fainting from this woman. If he offered me a scarf I would smile at him and say "can I have a hug instead please".

I'm not interested in his private life more his charactertics and the person he is on the inside.

If I could list 4 things I love about him they would be this:-

1. His voice (cos without that I never would have known about him)
2. His characteristics (all of them cos that's what makes him, him)
3. His sense of humour (what a great one it is too lol)
4. His looks (this is number 4 cos I see past his looks, to me he's beautiful
not only on the outside but the inside too and to me that's what counts
more)

To me Elvis was a human being with the most incredible voice that touched your heart, a very talented person, but a human being all the same with feelings the same as the rest of us. I wish people had that thought in their heads before they wrote about him.

Good Post

For me it is all about the music. I am also not interested in stories about his personal life i just admire and respect his talent and gifted entertainer he was. His voice truley touches me every time i listen to a song. And his was a very kind loving and generous human being. If i went to a concert i would be very excited but i would just be happy to sit there and admire his voice and enjoy him performing and be entertained.

There is really no words to describe the type of fan I am. Elvis has been with me all my life! He is almost like a family member. I love so many things about him. He was a big part of my childhood, he sang at my wedding, I played his songs on my belly when I was pregnant, he has been with me through the most difficult times in my life and in the best times of my life. He continues to work his magic by blessing me with friends that I never thought possible! His place in my life is beyond words! God bless you Elvis.....I just hope he has found the same happiness he has given me!

I remember when Elvis died. As soon as my aunt and grandmother heard the news, they jumped in the car and drove the 6 hours to Memphis (without a clue as to where they would stay) because, as my uncle would recall, "Uncle Elvis died and they to the funeral." I also found out that my grandmother was on the evening news that evening of the funeral as they were standing at the gates of the area where they buried him and watched the procession into the graveyard.

Yes, I think so. But my aunt said they watched as the funeral filed into the gravesite while they watched as "Uncle Elvis" and "Uncle Vernon" went by.

Who knows - I may have met your aunt and grandmother!! We were all very tight those couple of days!!

That's a very real possibility. You probably attended the same concerts and Vegas shows that they attended because they did go to Houston as well as the shows here in Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. They also made their trips to Vegas (a minimum of 4 per year!) and took in his shows. I bet you have met them and didn't realize it.

TotallyInsane

Why did they go 4 times a year??

ehollier
12-30-2008, 09:56 PM
But Gail, you're one up on them. They never met him, personally. And once he passed away, its like they stayed in 1977 and never did the annual pilgramage to Graceland, etc. and didn't want to hear about the fallout after his death. It was always 1977 to them....

12-30-2008, 09:59 PM
Why did they go 4 times a year??

Because they loved Vegas, because they could and because they loved to gamble and see the shows. When they would go to Vegas when Elvis wasn't there, they saw many other performers. They really loved the whole day is night/night is day thing, my grandfather loved to play blackjack and when they didn't go to see Elvis, they usually stayed at the Queen's down on Fairmont, but when Elvis was playing they stayed at Caesars or the Hilton.

When Elvis died i was curious why someone so young died. And i read the Newspaper like everyone else, and started liking his music/voice. I read everything i could about his life. It always fasinated me how someone who IMO had it all could spiral down so quickly. And to me no other entertainer can compair to him.(excuse my spelling)

Elvis Presley's, voice followed more than a decade of our grandparents, parents, hollywood and radio's favourite voices. We were absolutely steeped in popular music well before Elvis hit us.

Therefore for me it was/is always his voice that interests me most.

Awhile ago my 48 year old son John had me listen to "Elvis is Back" on his new state of the art audio system. Wow! I heard a brand new Elvis!

My 1960 music player was an automatic dansette for playing 78, 45, and 33RPM vinyl!

That's the way it is with us steam age Elvis fans, we grew up with the changing technology and just marvel at the amazing possibilities unfolding.

Mid 60s when Elvis was making rather silly movies, I discovered Beethoven.

It could be said, I'm a Born Again Elvis fan. For 30 years or more it was the magnificent world of classical music that had my attention. Then in 1997, Elvis was back!!! Since then he has taken up an inordinate amount of my time. A very rewarding time to say the least.

I have been an Elvis fan since I was a little girl, so for me, the way I've seen him/appreciated him has changed throughout the years. Initially he was very much a perfect sort of idol to me: beautiful voice, so handsome, and perfect in every way. As I got more and more into his music, my love for that really began to deepen; and then later still as I began to get more life experience behind me, I was able to truly appreciate what a beautiful human being he was - and was able to understand that no, he wasn't perfect, but that even flawed, I adored who he was and what he stood for. So yeah, for me, I love everything about the guy!!! :)

I've been an Elvis fan ever since I saw him on Ed Sullivan back in '56. Yeah it's a little fuzzy, but it made a BIG impression. After that my dad bought me all the releases until I was old enough to buy them. Back in the days of vinyl I had all the original releases. Now I'm very selective. Collecting CDs doesn't hold the same allure.

For me it's all about the music. Yes, this includes the movie music, too.
If you wanna talk music, fine. If you wanna talk about his lifestyle, The Colonel, Priscilla, the pills, the Memphis Mafia, etc. I'm not interested.

Some days I feel just over the top - like I can't get enough of him thru books, music, movies. Some days, the music is all I need.
Actually the music is always more than enough. It seems like every song takes me to a different memory and the scene plays out in my mind. He had such a way with lyric and his voice was magical.

Thatīs your opinion. but be careful to hurt Elvis true fans feelings. everyone see things in different way. Elvis was the man he showed to be on everywhere. you cant hide another personality in 23 years.
True fans follow every news about Elvis and everything. the man he was around his mother will always be the same Elvis. the Elvis he was with his mother is the Elvis you will always follow and if we donīt follow this about him in everything. then people have easier to playing around with us .
yeah Elvis might have his own life. but i donīt think his friends lying about his real life.
knowone of us know Elvis in person so we canīt say how he really was. Iīm very sensitive when things coming about Elvis. i will always like the man he was. in your eyes he might be a image. but in my eyes he will be both of it because i think he was the same person in private too. but he just needed his private life. if you watch Kurt russel movie about Elvis 1979 you will see how Elvis really was. he was truly the same man and when all Tv people visit him he become angry because they follow his private life. if you just have watched those movies you would truly know the real Elvis. as people telling me. the way Elvis treat his mother will he always treating you and us too. I am very sensitive when it coming to Elvis because i will never let anyone changed the way i see Elvis because he was someone some really mean a lot to me. since i was born he mean so much to me a long way. he become a big part of my life some where so bad. so if someone ever try to changed this way i got upset. something this sounds so silly when you speak the way about Elvis. because he loved his fans so much so i think he donīt care if you screaming out or whatever. he truly loved everyone. this is my opinion. but i have read much about Elvis in my school and everything. i still reading about his death now too from all his docs words about his death. the way he talk out about that he really regret the way he treated Priscilla too. he knew he was to tough with her. he was honest.
you would coming Elvis closer if you follow everything about the movies about his life. because you begin understand what he have been through in his life. the people some donīt follow it and meeting Elvis in real if he didnīt die they would never be close to him.

I love all levels of ELVIS, from the Las Vegas myth to the humble man from Tupelo. I believe everybody has many levels that make up who they are, and in Elvis' case, he seemed mixed up and entangled at times. Lost between who he was as a man, who he was expected to be for the world, and his stage persona. It seems ultra talented people struggle with that, and i guess that would be normal. To me, it feels as if there are many Elvis' walking around- the servant of God, the entertainer, the healer, the father, and the list goes on. I love them all, and for different reasons. ;)

Thanks for your replies guys I can't believe I started this thread almost 3 years ago man how the time flies

Anna as you replied to my post I want to reply to yours :) you said in your post.......... True fans follow every news about Elvis and everything
The following is a quote from Elvis............ “The image is one thing and the human being is another. It's very hard to live up to an image, put it that way. ”

I've watched clips of Elvis including this one where he gets upset and the more upset he gets the more angry he gets cos he's a human being with feelings. Even though Elvis had a temper it doesn't change the fact that he was a warm, loving, caring human being with a big heart.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wXH95kHlj7A

Anna you also said.......... everyone see things in different way........... that's right I see him differently to you but even though our opinions are different the only opinion that counts is from Elvis himself cos he's the only one who knows himself inside and out
