500 Miles
Wow. Just heard this for the first time. What a great song. Someone needs to put some instrumentation behind it...

No, they don't. They really don't.
The beauty of the home recordings -- of which "500 Miles" is one of many -- is, indeed, their homespun simplicity.
There is something subtle and haunting about the arrangements as they were recorded all those years ago. I especially like the sound of the piano on many of the recordings; dark, sombre, unknowable, it's reminiscent of the sound Lennon achieved on his seminal track "Imagine".
Any overdubs or re-recordings would destroy the intimacy of what Elvis and the guys (and gals) achieved.

Very true. Elvis' genuis is not in the remix treatments, but in his simple rhythms and beats that he applied to everthing that he sung, whether it be in a recording studio or at home.

Except for A Little Less Conversation, the originals of all other songs to me are still the best.

A remix would be the worst one could do to such a beautiful, pure and soulful singing of 500 miles.

Well when you try to remix such a song you'll ruin it. I say this because you have a home-recording here not a studio version. There it's possible to fool around with it but here impossible, sorry.
