I think that guy made a good Elvis caracter. Not in looks, but... Guess is kinda'.
I thought it was a Hilarious , wildly over acted great Comedy myself. Not many around here will like it though. Was it Accurate? Ehhh it hit the broad strokes.

I think the original meeting is funny enough (think of the two completely different characters) that doesn't need a comedy sequel. It couldn't be as funny as the original.

Very, very funny, I suppose it happened something like that although perhaps not to over characterised. Certainly nothing to get bent out of shape about...

The movie was meant to be part fact and part comedy effort - and I believe that it accomplished it's purpose. I actually wouldn't mind to see it again.
It just mystifies me that, in this age of technology with DVDs and such that it only got released on VHS and not DVD.
Here's a website I ran across a long time ago with the full set of pictures taken during the December 21, 1970 meeting and the letter that Elvis wrote to Nixon on the way to Washington, D.C.

This is a movie I've been thinking of buying but now I'm not so sure...I'm glad it was mentioned in these posts that it was meant to be a comedy because it sure comes off as one.:D Neither actor comes even close to the original.
Thanks for posting Jen, it's interesting to say the least.

One of my faves - have it on DVD and have watched it many times - always makes me laugh...great spoof...both characters are great - love the "serious" commentary from such as Tony Curtis and Grahan Nash......you can't make this stuff up.... great film!

Of all the requests made each year to the National Archives for reproductions of photographs and documents, one item has been requested more than any other. That item, more requested than the Bill of Rights or even the Constitution of the United States, is the photograph of Elvis Presley and Richard M. Nixon shaking hands on the occasion of Presley's visit to the White House.
Also Nixons own Library gets more requests for those photos and info on the meeting than any other. Amazing.
Very, very funny, I suppose it happened something like that although perhaps not to over characterised. Certainly nothing to get bent out of shape about...
Even if half the truth is like the movie-it really is a funny story.
The parts we know are true are just so weird- they become funny.:)

I know its a comedy and it is not an effort to portrait the real Elvis, but really? it is only more into the Elvis false image as the fat no brained peanut butter eater dude, the movie itself its cheap entertainment, sorry to disagree with most of you Elvis fans, but I just hated this one.

Actually, I disagree here.....Elvis was, in no way whatsoever, fat in 1970. Not at all.

That is exactly my point Tony, why then did they choose that fat *** dude? and how could some fans actually found it funny when the only thing he does is behaving like a total jerk?

Well that guy may not be a Boss Hog but is way chubbier and rounder compared to the ultra slim Elvis of the Nov '70 tours and the Dec Nixon Meeting. Now because of the bad stereotype that says Elvis in the 70's was a fat guy, then those film makers chosen that Christmas turkey instead of an actor. Sorry canīt relate to that.
Anyhow, that might be the least important thing, I just donīt appreciate the way Elvis is portrayed in that movie, he was sure way much more of an educated and reflexive person, common people we all know, Elvis was a deep sensitive man, they guy in the movie its a jerk. Donīt know about you all, but, I just donīt dig the Elvis stereotype as the retarded hamburger dumb macho with the brain of a 3 year old or smaller, and that is what they portrayed here to me.
Plus as I said before, Elvis or no Elvis, the movie itself is third rate.
P.S. Really donīt want to bother anyone here, it is just my opinion, i still love you all if you liked that one.

Imo..I watched the movie a couple of years ago and yes it was stretching the imagination some, but, the best scene(s) were when "Elvis" went into the donut shop and the men were commenting on his rings and he pulls out a gun and say "yes and i aim to keep em! And when Nixon & Elvis were watching football and nixon,s team lost or Elvis,s team made a touchdown Elvis cheered and Nixon said Sh*T. LOL

The donut scene that may only build up more into the false believing of Elvis as a F racist?
Ok the movie make you laugh a little but at what cost? stuff like these running on TV will just make lots of people, specially young people, stay away of Elvis as it only adds to his bad stereotype image: jumpsuit, hamburgers, no brain. Sure its a free world and those people got the right to do whatever kind of movie they like to do, but are we really buying it? what for?
There are better Elvis related stuff to show on Tv than these for sure.

I have to agree. I certainly can see the humour in this movie, but there's the difference, we as fans who know the 'real Elvis' we could laugh at it if there wasn't the knowledge that such portrayals were going to cast a poor light on Elvis - as always - . Although I believe that this movie is one of the better ones...

Maybe I am. But I just donīt like this Elvis Presley's life or character always taken as an excuse for a joke attitude. To me the comedy characterization of Elvis on this one is already to tired and give us no new light on anything. And the movie itself, Elvis and Elvis fans involved or not, is a cheap throwaway really. Not a good movie please! Why is always so difficult to find Presley involved in something with quality! comedy or not.
I rather stay with other kind of movies for the laughter, and Elvis Presley for rock and roll.

Oh well maybe wasnīt about race, but about, social class discrimination? Anyhow, Elvis pointing with a gun to an everyday dude in a donut joint just because he commented on his ring? Canīt see that happening.

Elvis Presley robbing a donut shop......that's frickin' hilarious. C'mon, lighten up and laugh. This movie did nothing to tarnish Elvis.
I seriously doubt anyone who watched this would think any of this actually happened the way it was protrayed. It's a fictional, funny account of an actual event in Elvis' life.
Just the fact he met Nixon is funny enough.:)

Well you'll be surprised of what some young people think Elvis was, and a movie like this will just reinforce it, while other kind of movies may change things a bit.
But anyhow, I just believe the movie its bad just in terms of movie making and that is apart from Elvis world, but in the end is just a matter of taste I guess, just donīt like this kind of rock icon parody comedies, like that other French one: Janis and John, what a load of... what a kick on the... but some how Elvis always get the worst ones.
Ok enough of this topic for me, just wanted to express my opinion, as I said before, I still love you all if you love and cherish this one, just hmm... donīt choose it to initiate some into Elvis (n) And if someone with lots of money follows me on this one, please get all copies you can and burn them for TCB sake :P.
