What do you think about Elvis as a person?
Of course, he was a human, too...
And not perfect...only god's perfect..
But I LOVE him the way he is/was

I believe given what heights Elvis reached and given his position as a superstar he remained very level headed when it came to the fans!
His personal life however was more complex..... more to come soon.
I think that given the beginnings of his life and how he reached the world with his voice its such an amazing journey.
His life jumped from dirt poor to pay dirt in a matter of a few years and he coped with his life in the best way he knew how. He never planned to die at 42-yet thats what happened. Life happens.

I think that for the most part over all he was a great guy. We all have faults and this includes Elvis. But I believe that he tried to be a good human and treated others very well. He was an amazing talent and a wonderful person.

I think that Elvis was a simple man. Not too much educated and not with the biggest urge to educate himself. He wasn't interested in the business part of the game which led to the situation that each and everyone took advantage of him. Mentally he wasn't up to a career like this.
But he was a great artist who understood the music like rarely anybode else. Even when he covered the songs of other artists his versions were often superior to the originals. As if he had the magic key to the music. His voice was just beautiful, in fact I never heared a male voice with more beauty in it. And he was a perfect entertainer. He lived for the stage and was born to entertain the crowds.
That is -in short- what I think about Elvis A. Presley.

I think Elvis was an exceptionally talented person in many ways but only his music was developed and that was fantastic. I think he had even more going for him had the music not eclipsed everything else and I think that was part of the frustration. He was literally trapped by his fame.
I think he had a very warm heart and we all know he had a great sense of humor until the end. A shame that he wasn't surrounded by people who could appreciate was an exceptional person he was and would have been willing to nurture that in him.

I would have.
Cook for him, spoil him. Make a big deal out of Christmas/Christmas Eve. His friends would be welcome.
Sitting outside, enjoying the horses, the ducks, the wallabies, and deers; Storm our puppy, being crazy; the scrub turkey. The lovely breezes that start at 3:00 p.m., every day. Lots of Christmas goodies to eat. No need to lift a finger. Relaxing, caring, enjoying, nothing to worry about, looking at the trees and the stars, no people, laughing ...

I love him the way he is, too. Even though I donīt know everything about him. No matter what there still is to know about him, it wonīt change any of my feelings for him. I love him just the way he is, no matter as human, as man, as singer, as actor, or as anything else he is. :D I canīt explain it better.

I think he was an exceptional man...He was loving and kind-hearted. I believe people used him for what they could get. I think he was mistreated and abused...I think for the most part people in his life were "yes" men, who in a lot of ways helped him to make bad decisions. I know that with E it was his way or the highway, so I don't blame anyone for the choices that he made. I just think there were to many people pushing him for there own benefit.
He did so much for people and never expected or asked anything in return...That is a great person. I agree with Billy Smith that the 2 hardest things for E to say were Thank you and I'm sorry, and I believe that is why he helped so many people out. And he also knew what growing up with nothing was like and didn't want people he loved to do without like he did.
I missed out on his career because I wasn't born until 1981, but we all were truly lucky that God allowed us what little time we had with him but i am grateful for every little minute. But now he is everlasting!!!!:'(

I think Elvis was a very curious soul. You only have to look at the books he read to see he was a deep thinker and was searching for an explanation to his life. I don't agree about Elvis not being educated he passed his school exams and he read all sorts of text on religion, spirtiuality etc and it takes intellect to read some of the books he read.
I think Elvis was very human and that he tried to treat people with respect.

Love what you said Jess!!!!!
I think Elvis was a bit complicated.
Bad temper...but didn't like that in himself.
Generous to a fault....selfish in needing a lot of attention.
Sexual and passionate man....immature and childish.
Hard working....hard playing.
Mistrusting of many...too trusting of others.
Reclusive......outgoing on stage.
I feel he struggled his whole life to balance out these opposites in himself. I feel he looked for a higher source to help him. I feel the struggle and the manifestation of them, lead to drugs and his downfall.

Just a thought...but do you think that Elvis would have stood a better chance of understanding who he was if his career and image hadn`t been so carefully crafted by Colonel Parker.....he did say that the image was one thing and that a human being is another..but was it the image created by his manager over the years that made it so difficult for Elvis to be himself?:hmm::hmm::hmm:

I don't know, I've met some who are and some who aren't so much. But it is the level of opposites that was so strong in Elvis. I think that is also why we find him so interesting and partly why we can talk endlessly about him too.
I think most human beings are complicated. I do not know one person-who does not have some type of inconsistency in their mental makeup.
Granted some people are nothing but inconsistencies-and some have very few.

I sincerely believe Elvis was one of the more complicated personalities. Not just because of his upbringing but I think genes played a big part as well.

I think as a humanbeing he was exceptional, faults and everything. He had a good heart, was good to his mankind.
I think he was good down to his soul. Hard to live the way he did I think he did great for what he had to deal with. That road he walked was not walked by anyone before him. He did the best he could and knew how.
I like what Missy? wrote.

Elvis uneducated? Nah, IMO, that was a game he liked to play on some people. A reverse snobbery, if you will. He knew that some folks didn't think much of him, he was young, southern, and very sensual. Some folks wanted him to be an idoit savant and he didn't feel the need to correct them, just played along.
I believe he was a very spiritual being. Was it Natalie Wood who was quoted in saying that Elvis truly believed that his talents and success were a blessing/gift from God. And, I do recall that she didn't mean this in a complimentary way, but to emphasize his "hillbilly" ways.

The king was no doubt a hillbilly but so am I and I'm **** proud of it! I agree that he did play the "dumb card" quite well. U know what my grandpa always told me :secret: "If a person is really smart, they won't let on how smart they really are."
