Presley Stunned Jones With Shower Song

Rock n' roll king ELVIS PRESLEY was once so keen to share his song ideas with pal TOM JONES, he joined him in the bathroom as the Welsh crooner was taking a shower.
The late legend was a big fan of Jones' and they'd often hang out together when on tour in the same city.
But one occasion, in Las Vegas, left Jones feeling a little embarrassed.
He tells U.K. chatshow host Graham Norton, "When we played Vegas together, when he'd finish his shows and I'd still be there, he'd come to my shows. He'd always be there. Sometimes he'd walk on the stage. The strangest thing is I'd be in the middle of a song and then suddenly everyone would go 'ahhh', and I'd be thinking, what's happened?!
"Then one night, I've come off stage and Elvis is in the dressing room. He said, 'Tom, I've got a song for you' and I said, 'Ok great, but I gotta get in the shower', I've perspired so much. So I'm in the shower, and the water's coming down and then I hear (Elvis singing). I was thinking I'm going bloody mad here, because I can hear Elvis Presley singing in the shower! Then I opened my eyes and he's leaning over the door!"

I had eared this story too & Tom Jones said the song was "With This Hands" (a Jones' classic recording).

Why do some people find this so hard to believe?

Elvis and Tom were good mates and spent a lot of time together.

Maybe Elvis did like barging into other peoples rooms. Maybe he didn't.How would we know?

Remember, that at this period of time Elvis took drugs heavily which made him behave strange sometimes. So I totally believe this story and I already heard it before. Pretty surreal though...

ElvisBizz, the facts are that Elvis was singing "With THESE Hands" as he walked over to Jones when they first met in the mid-60's. It was then a current Jones song.

This story about the shower happened in the 70's. Look at the context. Elvis would hardly have been suggesting to Jones a song he had already done! I believe we still don't know the actual song title in the shower incident, and in fact Jones probably can't even remember himself! Whenever he tells the story he imitates with just a warble and no discernible words.

I have heard him retelling this story numerous times over the years and it's gradually changing. I first heard him tell it on radio over here when touring Australia in the mid-80's and in that version, Elvis had only opened the door to the shower room and was singing through the open space. The story changes over time becoming more and more "intimate". Next year Elvis will actually be in the shower with Tom! Jones tells it basically to get a laugh, I guess.

What a load of boloney,Tom Jones like the rest of the stars who met Elvis were in awe of him,I think Tom is trying to make himself look good,Elvis would always have had someone with him and he certainly would not have entered his bathroom.I also remember watching a documentary about Tom and his son(Tom's manager) told a story about how Elvis often visited Tom in his suite in Vegas and one night they was a knock at the door and they apparently said oh f**K its Elvis again as if he was some sort of nuisance,Tom's a great singer but he needs to to be more respectful.

I believe Tom Jones. The shower room in question would most likely have been a huge space, not at all like the rooms us regular people use. And like with a lot of us, over the years the story gets tweaked a little.

By the way, Tom Jones new album "24 Hours" is rather good.

Yes, we can believe Tom that this incident happened, but my point is - do we believe his telling of the story twenty years ago, or do we believe the way he tells it today? I personally believe it was more accurate back then. Today it's told more for shock/entertainment value - therefore less reliable.
