Hello everyone
I have a question
I heard once that Elvis wanted to use James Brown's band to record with in the studio but it didn't happen because Colonel Parker didn't want Elvis working with them.
This probably happened sometime in the 70's but does anyone know exactly what year Elvis wanted to work with Brown's band?
thanks in advance

I have never heard of this:doh:
It might help to know where you heard it that would be a start.

From James Brown himself in an interview from a newspaper but he didn't mention what year this was suppose to take place
It use to be a topic of discussion on several Elvis message boards a few years ago.
Thought someone on here might know
no one knows?

Sorry never heard nor read of it-what did they say on the message boards when you discussed it back several years ago? Is the interview still available somewhere, or a transcript?
It may have been an offer that Brown made to Elvis-which would be different than Elvis actually asking Brown to loan him his band. But I can honestly say in any books on Elvis I just have never heard anything close to this pal.

There's some truth to this Brian. GK and a few others have mentioned in the past that Elvis wanted to work with the Famous Flames, Brown's backing band for his Girls Girls Girls soundtrack but Parker said nixed the idea.
GK has said that Elvis got the idea of having two drummers on record at the same time from Brown.

thank you Elvislives72
no matter how good James band was the Girls Girls Girls soundtrack material was horrible and they wouldn't of made the songs any better.
so it's no big loss imo.

You're welcome Brian.:) There's a book called The Ultimate Elvis released in the mid 90's that mentions this as well as the book Elvis His Life From A to Z.
I do agree that it wasn't anything special but the title song Girls should have been a single as it had the potential to be another #1 possibly an R&B hit as well.

It was on the old AEK message board where people were talking about the relationship between Brown and Elvis where they mentioned that Elvis wanted to work with the Famous flames but they just posted an old quote from James but they didn't post the article where they got it from.
