Man you did a wonderful job on this!(y) It's hard to believe that as beautiful as Graceland is on the inside of the gates that it's a total dump outside of them.:'( It's like entering anotehr world.

So beautifully done. IT made my heart ache to be there.

I hardly think the inside is a dump. That is not a fair statement.

I assume you're talking about what I said about it being a dump. I didn't say it was a dump inside. I said it's a dump outside of the gates meaning around the neighborhood. It looks nothing like it did when Elvis lived there. That's including the home and the surrounding area.(n)

I have to agree, last time I was in Memphis back in April of 2003 the community definitley looked under the weather.

Sadly there are parts of Memphis that are no better off than a third world country. And some of those areas are around Graceland. It is that bad.:'(

Hopefully Sillerman is trying to help fix that....

Hopefully Sillerman is trying to help fix that....

Here's the thing with that. Sillerman can only do so much. It's in the hands of the Memphis city council to decide whether or not they can afford or come up with 40 million of local and state funding for infrastructural costs. If they say yes to Sillerman's proposal which they should then you can expect a whole new environment around Garceland in the coming years which will make it more enjoyable when visiting. No more looking over your shoulder while looking at the mansion.

But don't expect any "Disney" type of transformation as has been rumored. That's not their intentions. If anything it'll be new museums, restaurants, more public space and a much larger Heartbreak Hotel with convention space. I don't look for Sillerman to start building the new hotel anytime soon with the economy in the shape it's in now, maybe within the next 2 or 3 years at the earliest. I think that'll be the last part of their plans.

Their first priority is a new visitors center and museum next to the mansion. That I do know. Sillerman's already said that they won't spend all the money up front that it could kill the project altogether if they did that.

I see them spreading it out in stages.

Well considering that the topic was about Graceland and the fact that the area around it today is bad and that change is coming, I thin k it was all topic related.

That was lovely - gave me goosebumps...the music was so grand and perfect for Graceland.....I didn't realise that Graceland may have been modelled on Tara....will have to go back to the movie Gone With The Wind again....

Thank you!

Spesaking of this great video, did any of you notice the inside footage of Graceland from both the 60's and the 70's? It was red interior not blue as is the case today. So exactly when was it blue anmd white as Prisiclla claims?:hmm:

And imagine how it must have been for a 22 year old kid who had never had anything to be able to purchase that beautiful home for his family. What a feeling that had to be!:king:

I believe it was blue and white after sometime in '57.

I truly don't feel that the blue and white represents the way it was when Elvis lived there - especially from 1974-1977. You may shoot me but I would love to see the 'bordello red' make an appearance.
