Hello everyone

I got a question for everyone and I would also like to get some of your thoughts on this subject.

Elvis wasn't interested in doing this but

About a year after the success of Aloha the Colonel came up with this idea to do a television special with Elvis singing all gospel songs and having it air on Easter 1974 on NBC. Given Elvis love for gospel music and the fact he recorded so many gospel songs and would even perform gospel songs in concert from time to time I don't think this would be a bad idea at all. Also given the fact that anytime Elvis appeared on t.v. it was a ratings success and in my opinion had this special taken place it would've been better than Elvis in Concert.

Do you think Elvis should've went ahead and done the Easter special?
Do you think it was a good idea or a bad idea?

I think it would've been cool to see Elvis do an "all-Gospel" television special - aithough, I don't really think it would've been a ratings smash.

I thought this topic was done before.
I don't think Elvis was interested in a full gospel show.

I don't think Elvis would've been interested in doing it either. Maybe in the 50's but not by the end of his career.

I think it would be a mistake for the 50's Elvis to do an all gospel t.v. special because back then he was associated with rock n' roll.

I know it didn't happen in 74 but I think it would've been okay for Elvis to sing 18 to 20 gospel songs because in the 70's he was seen more as an all around entertainer and seeing as how his gospel music is very popular with fans and he won grammies for them it would've been a success maybe not a huge ratings success but a success none the less.

A concert in 74 just performing all gospel songs would've been great to hear and see !

1974 was the year he won his last grammy and it was because the live version of How Great Thou Art from the Mid South Coliseum L.P so maybe that TV Especial would have been a good idea.

There was never any serious plan to do a 1974 Easter special.

Aloha was repeated at Easter 1974: the first repeat of the special.

That is what the "Coming Soon" bit refers to. Someone got their wires crossed somewhere.
